3 team trade (ORL, HOU, LAL
This is kind of a revised version of the failed chris paul trade. tell me who says no?
ORL receives: Bynum, Lowry (or S&T Dragic), Kevin Martin (loses Dwight, Jameer, Clark)
LAL receives: Dwight, Jameer, Scola (Loses Bynum, Sessions, Gasol)
HOU receives: Gasol, Sessions, Clark (Loses Scola, Lowry[Dragic], Martin)
All teams trade pieces they would like to get rid of (Dwight, Gasol, Martin) and receive pieces they'd like to get back. Not sure any team can say no to this.
I can't do this on the trade machine, as some of the pieces are inelegible (final year or option), but you can check the money by switching JJ for Jameer and Steve Blake for sessions. Link shows this modified trade:
First Bianchi article I've enjoyed reading. Ever.
Seriously, Bianchi nails it with this one, if not coming off as a little bit whiny.
3 Team Deal: ORL, NOH, ATL
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7e9g5m7
Magic trade Arenas to the Hawks for Joe Johnson. Magic get a nice 2 guard, if not an overpaid one. Hawks Amnesty Gil and get out from Johnson's contract, saving about 50 million.
Magic trade Redick, Nelson, and Bass plus picks to the Hornets for CP3. Magic get Paul (self explanatory) and the Hornets get a decent deal from one of the few teams who will trade for CP3 without an extension.
Lineup:
CP3/Duhon
Johnson/Q/Liggins
Turk/Q/Harper/Liggins
Anderson/Harper
Howard/FA/Orton
That is definitively a championship roster. Do you think NOH and ATL make this trade?
"The Dark Horse Team to get D Howard" HAHAHAHA
Thought my fellow Magic fans would get a kick out of this hallucination.
Thought this was a timely post...
Summer League Invites: Who Do You Want?
I want Mikhail Torrance. He's long (6'5) and considers himself a pure-point. Could be nice pick-up to be groomed as out third-string PG.
Other interesting options:
1) Manny Harris - Michigan. Athletic SG who has a knack for scoring.
2) Jon Scheyer - Duke. Should be a known enitity. Lacks some atleticism, but at 6'6, is hard to ignore.
3) Omar Samhan - St. Mary's. Led them on a cinderella run. Low-post player with serious skill, but lacks athleticism.
What do you all think? Who would you like to see in Orlando for the Summer League?
Trade: Gortat for Collison
Collison is never going to play, once Chris Paul comes back, so I think he could be had if the right pieces are offered.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yhqt286
ORL:
Incoming: Darren Collison, James Posey
Outgoing: Marcin Gortat, Anthony Johnson, Adonal Foyle
Why they do it: Simple, they get a great young point guard to sure up the second unit. They take on Pose's crappy contract, but hey, you have to give to get. Also, Posey could be a nice situational piece in SVG's offense. Plus, I would think that Foyle gets bought out and returns to Orlando to continue his role as a good locker room guy.
NOR:
Incoming: Marcin Gortat, Anthony Johnson, Adonal Foyle (probably bought out)
Outgoing: Daren Collison, James Posey
Why they do it: Gortat is a great value. By getting him, they can trade Okafor's bad contract to get cap relief. Also, they get more relief by shedding Posey's awful contract. They need to get something for Collison, since his talents will be waste for years if he stays in New Orleans.
Sound like a winner?
Trade Possibility
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yhwpm4p
New trade idea that I find kind of interesting.
Vince Carter + Brandon Bass + 1st Round Draft Pick
for
Amar'e Stoudemire + 2nd Round Draft Pick
Why Orlando does it: As they proved last night, the twin towers approach can work. Plus, how good does this lineup look: Nelson, Barnes, Lewis, Stoudemire, Howard. The other thing this does, is give us flexibility to trade Gortat later on. If more firepower is needed, Pietrus or JJ can replace Barnes in the starting lineup.
Why Phoenix does it: They need to get rid of Stoudemire before he leaves for free. Bass is a good young player. Vince is a box office draw while the team rebuilds, and they get a 1st rounder to sweeten the deal.
What do you think?

Pretty amazing how we all trashed the author for this one.
Even more amazing, how close to being correct he actually was. Although I normally think Austin Burton is not worth the computer he types from, he did pretty damn well here.
I think its interesting to see how we have all changed our opinion now that the trade is for real. Have we just warmed up to Vince out of necessity? Or is this actually "the trade that will bring Orlando a championship"?
Does anyone want to take over my team in the Fantasy GM league over at PAPSN.com? I've been way too busy to actually do this thing, so if someone wants my team, let me know.
BTW, I am the Phoenix Suns.
Filling Out the Roster
So...
We currently have Howard, Lewis, Barnes, Carter, Nelson, AJ, JJ, Pietrus, Bass, Gortat, and Anderson under contract. That leaves 3 spaces available on the roster (Due to cost cutting, we will probably carry only 14 players on the roster. The positional breakdown is as follows:
- PG - 2
- Wing - 4
- PF - 3
- C - 2
In other words, we need a PG, a wing player, and a C. I say give me the following players:
- Jason Williams (just hit the waiver wire)
- Kasib Powell
- Richard Hendrix
- Russell Robinson (invite him to camp, but tell him to wait till next year)
Discuss...
Where the minutes will go...Who will play where, and how much.
It seems as though the rotations is set with the addition of Barnes. Here is how I think the minutes will be distributed:
PG:
Nelson - 34 min
AJ/3rd-string - 14 min
SG:
Carter - 30 min
Pietrus - 8 min
JJ - 10 min
SF:
Barnes - 18 min
Pietrus - 15 min
Lewis - 15 min
PF:
Lewis - 18 min
Bass - 20
Anderson - 10
C:
Howard - 35 min
Gortat - 13 min
Although I agree that Lewis should start at PF, and play more of his minutes there, looking at our current personnel, I don't see anyway that he doesn't slide to the SF spot more than he did last year.
Put your suggestions in the comments...
Hey Otis...Sign Linas Kleiza
Dude is a beast at SF. He shoots the three, he can take it to rack, he plays decent defense, and he has size. Him with Pietrus would be a nice spark off of the bench.
Most importantly, he can be had for part of the Mid Level Exception. Him and McDyess (who'll probably stay in DET) along with Hendrix from the summer league team would give us a hell of a roster.
Otis, sign him!!!
Playing Devil's Advocate Over the Value of Turk
Since the season ended not two full days ago, only one topic has dominated our minds...the value of Turkoglu to this team. Obviously, him opting-out of his deal was to be expected, but it does raise some important issues. The overwhelming consensus on this blog seems to be that Turk is invaluable--a player that we absolutely must resign to return to the game's ultimate stage next year. While I value Turk as much as the next man, re-sigining him to a long term deal does raise some interesting questions. For the sake of intelligent discourse, I would like to voice these questions as well as give my .02 cents regarding the Magic and their future. More after the jump...
A Question for Ben and ERivera
Something I've been curious about, and would love to have you guys comment on, is how Rashard's contract affects us moving forward, especially considering the expercted drop in salary cap and luxury tax thresholds. From Marc Stein:
"On Feb. 18, Stern authorized the dispatch of a memo to all 30 teams projecting a drop in the salary cap from $58.7 million this season to $57.3 million in 2009-10 and a subsequent drop to $56.5 million in 2010-11, with a projected decline for the luxury-tax threshold as well: $71.2 million this season to $69.4 million in 2009-10 to $68.5 million in 2010-11."
Brandon Bass. Anyone Think He Might Be A Good Fit?
You know the drill. New week, new showcased fanpost. This week 3QC member TragicMatt poses a trade scenario involving a certain Dallas Mavericks player. Do you agree/disagree with him? Provide your thoughts in the comments section. Don't forget to check out Ben's recap of the Magic/Kings game last night. - ER
Recently, there has been talk that the Dallas Mavericks may be shopping Brandon Bass around the league. He seems like a good fit for the Magic in multiple ways:
1) Hard-working PF who can rebound. Also, very athletic. Imagine a big lineup of Jameer, Turk, Shard, Bass, and Dwight. That would be unstoppable if you ask me.
2) Cap-friendly contract (less than 1MM)
I don't know what it would take to trade for him, or how to match the contracts, but maybe something like this (salaries match on ESPN trade machine):
Orlando gets:
Brandon Bass, Jerry Stackhouse (Expiring contract/on the trading bock)
Dallas gets:
JJ Redick, Brian Cook
Essentially, Dallas gets another talented wing player as well as a "big" body to replace Bass' minutes. Orlando gets the bruising, athletic 4 they are looking for.
What do you all think? Would you make this trade? Would Dallas make this trade?

Wizards Get Crittenton
Wizards pick up Javaris Crittenton in a trade with Memphis. I guess now he'll have the chance to burn us four times a year. It took a first rounder in return, but I don't know why the magic couldn't get it done Redick, or Bogans, and Cook. Sure seems like a better option than Chicky Atkins.
