Miguel Olivo - 

He's a catcher that's never had more than 20 walks in a season. He's a career .243/.278/.424 hitter.  And strikes out an average of 146 times per 162 game season. His career OPS is .702 and career OPS+ is 83. He averages 21 HR and 71 RBI per 162 game season although he's never played more than 127 games in a season. He's had 11 sacrifice flies in his career! That's 2616 PA and only 11 sac flies. This is an amazing number to me. He's kind of strange for a slugger IMO. You'd think he'd draw a lot of walks and a better OBP; but it's all or nothing with Miguel. It's either a SO or a HR.

Olivo is close to his career average this year too with 17BB, 23HR, and 65 RBI so far. He's hitting .252/.293/.499 this season with a .791 OPS and a OPS+ of 106. He's having his best overall season so far but he'll be 32 years old next July so I don't really see him improving on these numbers.

He's got 10 passed balls and 55 wild pitches this season alone. He's had 70 PB and 254 WP in 750 games. Only 16 of 49 base stealers got thrown out by Miguel. So he threw out 27% of runners. Although the league average is only 28%. IMO, his decent defense on base stealers doesn't make up for the ungodly amount of PB and WP he allows. He's got a good arm but nothing else defensively.

There's a reason Olivo has been on 5 teams in 8 seasons. I like the SLG and the HR's but he's killing us with the defense and his lack of plate discipline. The lack of available talent in MLB at catcher may make him our best option though. What do you guys think?
