Make Sure the Carpet Matches the Drapes
Bored again. Anywho, I'm sick of hearing about the Capocalypse and how underrated the Flyers are (put them together and you get this).
So how about a nice happy story about two punk-ass kids that are pretty good at hockey and will be here for quite a while.
Apparently they also have telepathy - which should be an advantage for the 'Hawks in the SCF.
"...Toews... purchased a three-bedroom condo in a luxury downtown high-rise. Two months later, Kane bought a two-bedroom unit in a similarly luxurious building just a few blocks away. Without knowing, they picked out the same sectional and the same carpeting."
Hossa Seeks Cup, Agent Uses Math
Wait, I was told there would be no math...
Anyway, it turns out Dat Horsa Guy chose a team based on stats, not paycheck (though $62.8M certainly helps). Hossa and his agent used a statistical model to determine the teams that gave him the best chance to win it all (finally) and chose the best fit among them. Hopefully the 3rd time's the charm.
Duncan Keith, Energizer Bambi
Good read from Puck Daddy (yes really). Written by Justin Bourne.
Bobby Lu Craigslist Ad from Kukla.
'Nucks Have Canada's Worst Fan Base
Well, at least according to FTR. Nice lengthy diatribe if you have a few minutes.
'Hawks named on "All Patrick" Team
NHL.com columnist, John Kreisler, names an "All Patrick" team for St. Patrick's Day. Not really newsworthy, but I'm getting damn tired of "hawks are soft" or "NHL suspension unfair" stories.
Kaner & Sharpie (backup) are represented, as well as Pat Stapleton.
Not Ready to Rip Martz (Yet)
"I don't think Martz would work well with Jay Cutler at all," Armey told ESPNChicago.com. "He's a terrible . . . coach, and he would ruin that kid like he ruined Kurt Warner and drove him out of St. Louis. "He's the worst thing that could happen to any young quarterback."
Yikes. Everybody seems to be criticizing Mike Martz lately, and the trend continues at WCG. I'm not going to argue against legitimate complaints about how well Martz would adapt to the personnel and personalities in Chicago, but I'm sick of hearing baseless claims that go something like "Martz BAD, (insert name of coach) GOOD." Maybe we should look a little deeper, before forming our opinions.
For example, here's what Kurt Warner (the guy Charlie Armey said Martz drove our of town) had to say:
[Martz] was the most intelligent football coach I've ever been around... He taught me more about the game than any other coach. He obviously helped me physically with technique, throwing the ball and being balanced. It was definitely a process, but he was so good, both physically and mentally in getting ready to play and helping me become the quarterback that I am.
Here's the rest of Neil Hayes' article (2nd quote) and another Sun-Times article (1st quote). I'm sure that there will be more to come from Chicago MSM about Mike Martz. Feel free to post more links, quotes, and (sound) opinions below.
Mixed Emotions
Well, your 2009 Chicago Bears ended the season on a high note. After a demoralizing loss in Baltimore, the Bears rebounded with wins against the class of our division: the playoff bound Minnesota Vikings, and the cellar dweller: the Lions. But these final wins leave me with mixed emotions. Here are a few things that have shaped my views of this team going into 2010.
Are you feeling more optimistic about the Bears' future? Please voice your opinion in the poll and the comments section.
Let's Be Rational WCG
After Sunday's debacle in Paul Brown Stadium Soldier Field Lambeau Field the Metrodome, Lovie' s seat has gotten a tad hotter, and the call for coaching changes will only get louder as our woeful Bears close out this miserable season. We've all heard the arguments against Lovie's maddening stoicism, but shouldn't we really be focusing on how he handles his responsibilities, not his emotions? Yes a head coach is a leader, but a head coach is supposed to put the right players on the field and the right coaches behind them with the best game plan. Is Lovie meeting those needs for our team?
