More Goodman Goodness.

So Jeff Goodman obviously has to say something about the Orton commitment. Orton's father spoke a few times at Kentucky, along with Kansas and Oklahoma St, and received compensation for it. Nothing illegal here, but Goodman calls Gillispie's "tactics" unethical. Just like 8th grade commits and moving up Madness (also unethical accord to TLT) Kentucky is not the only school involed in these practices, but receives the majority of criticism.

Maybe as a former UNC blogger Goodman could use his own "ethics" and look into the recruiting practices of Roy Williams. Remember when he wanted to bring his Kansas recruits to Chapel Hill? Or when former UNC players in the NBA played pick-up games with recruits? Or when Roy attended off-season scrimmages?

As JL said, we need to embrace this as Kentucky fans. Please keep giving us free publicity Jeff. It's obvious Coach Gillispie is doing something right or this story would have never been written. The media, no matter how biased it is, doesn't write stories about insignificant programs. These feeble attempts at journalism simply tell me that we are back.

I just wanted some opinion on a story that isn't getting much coverage down here in ACC land.

This was in the Raleigh N&O today: http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/unc/story/1055122.html

So, the Tarheels have a "voluntary" scrimmage, consisting of the whole team, with the coach watching, during exam week and the NCAA basically doesn't care.

This happened last year when Ray Felton and Sean May played pick-up games with UNC recruits, also a violation, and again nothing happened. Here is that link: http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/unc/story/709830.html

It's really amazing to live down here and see all of the things UNC gets away with. NC State was prohibited from the NCAA tournament after going undefeated because David Thompson, a recruit at the time, played a pick-up game with Stae players. Carolina has a large journalism school and it clearly shows by reading the NC papers.

New NBA rule

What does everyone think about the NBA's new rule requiring players to stay in college for two years now? I read somewhere that these kids were likely to take the rule and challenge its legality, but wasn't this already done in the NFL?

I had thought that the grey goose drinkin, gun wielding Maurice Clarett ruined it for everyone, but maybe not. Could some of our sharp legal minds here at ASoB set me straight please?

Assuming the rule sticks, It seems it would be beneficial to the great recruiters (BCG), but also reduce some of the parody in college hoops. The increase in talent level would lessen the emphasis on great coaching and make the recruiting trails even more ruthless (Bruce Pearl).

Registration for the ASOB NCAA pool doesn't close until the first round of games begin. (The play-in games does not count towards scoring) Now that we know our Cats are dancing it should make filling out a bracket much easier.

There's obviously no money involved, but it will be fun to have a little friendly competition between ourselves. There's even a message board for you trash talkers out there.

Those who have already signed up, don't forget to fill out your bracket before the games start.

May the best Cat fan win!

Just wondering if you guys did any kind of NCAA bracket pool. I know we could create a group on one of the larger sites (ie: espn, yahoo, etc..), but would it be possible to get our own here?

I think it would be really cool to see how some of us rank amatuers compare to Tru and a few of the other "big boys" on this site. Just throwing a thought out there, what does everyone else think?
