Your Capitals Gift Giving Do's and Don'ts
Thanksgiving is nearly upon us, and with it the official start to the Christmas shopping season.
To help prepare you to do your duty as a fan this season, I prepared a helpful list of gifts to give and gifts to avoid this year.
First up, it's the item that inspired this list. Despite this having been listed as a piece of Washington Capitals memorabilia on the site in question, I thoroughly recommend you avoid . . .
The Bill Guerin autographed Caps Killer picture!
Instead, choose an autographed photo of a truly memorable goal:
If you're tempted to choose something with a little Caps history, be sure to check your spelling carefully.
It's Jim Carey
Not Jim Carrey

Kids love hockey cards. Just be careful not to confuse them.
So avoid cards which feature Dennis Leary discussing how much Sergei Fedorov loves soccer . . .

And stick to cards of guys actually in their uniform

When looking for wall art, choose something timeless . . .

Avoid things which may not age well, like oversize novelty tickets commemorating Jaromir Jagr's 500th goal (model sold separately)

A game worn jersey is definitely a top notch gift, but older players get very expensive.
So avoid has-beens . . .

Chantilly Sports Show Advance Autograph Tickets
In case you didn't get to meet them at the Convention:
Ovechkin, Green, and Varlamov will be signing autographs at the Chantilly Sports Memorabilia show on Halloween. $5 to get in the door, you can wander around racks of baseball cards, mcfarlanes, photos, and all sorts of neat stuff.
An autograph from Ovechkin is $120-150, Green $35-45, and Varlamov $25.
Not affiliated with the show or anything, just on their mailing list and wanted to share the wealth.
Over/Under Part 1: Goals for the Top 6
Well, as the season approaches, it's time to take the pulse of Caps Nation and see where our heads are on some of the issues surrounding our boys in red.
And what better way to do that than with a little quasi-gambling as we pick over/unders for the big statistical questions of the season.
I'll lay out one per day from now until the puck drops on opening night. And come playoff time, we can look back and see how wrong we were.
First up is an obvious but hugely important one for a team more likely to win on offense and special teams than with goaltending and defense.
Will the Caps Top 6 Forwards Amass 190 goals for the season?
For purposes of this question, we'll call the top 6 Ovechkin, Backstrom, Semin, Knuble, Laich, and BMo.
It's easy enough to see how it happens. AO is the great 8 as always and hits 60. Semin stays healthy and produces 40. Nicky continues his progression with 25. Knuble racks up 30 putting back the Big 4's rebounds. Laich pots his 20 and BMo blends in well and pots 15 himself. There's enough talent that these 6 could breeze their way into 200+ goals.
It's also easy to envision how they could fall short. Semin has another prolonged injury spell and so does one of the old guys. Laich returns to earth and falls short of 20. Alex is not so great in January because he's focused on the Olympics. Or maybe Knuble doesn't really produce extra goals on the top line, but just steals them from Alex and Nicky.
So what say you Caps nation? Do you have the Over or the Under? And what will be the biggest reason the Caps meet your prediction?
