Dallas Cowboys Needs and Potential Answers Part I
Need: Speed at Wide Receiver
Possible Answers: Jacoby Ford, Clemson, Carlton Mitchell, South Florida, Mardy Gilyard Cincinnati, Golden Tate, Notre Dame
Having a legitimate deep threat out there to help Miles and Roy would be a great help to the offense, and no I am not overlooking Kevin Ogletree, who I believe will contribute even more next year. It just seems to me that this could and should be Sam Hurd's last year here. He is a really good special teams player but he doesn't add a dimension to the offense. Someone like Jacoby Ford would. He fills the need of KR and PR, both of which could use an upgrade as well as provide a deep threat and screen, reverses, etc. He also could be gotten with a 3rd round pick probably whereas someone such as Gilyard or Tate would take a first or second and thats kind of stretching it too.
Need: Offensive Tackle
Possible Answers: Charles Brown USC, Bryan Bulaga Iowa, Bruce Campbell Maryland
Everyone seems to be on the Doug Free is a lock to be the LT of the future bandwagon... even when we haven't seen him play LT in legitimate games. I will give you that he did very well at RT, even better than Columbo who he should replace next year at the least. My thinking is that we know Free can play RT and if that is the worst case scenario for him, meaning that he's not as effective at LT so be it. But we still have the issue of replacing both Adams and Columbo so why not draft an OT. I personally like Charles Brown and I think he will be there when Dallas picks assuming they don't move up or down. He excels in pass protection and is very athletic. I think Dallas needs to stop worrying about getting this massive line together and instead worry about what will give us the most versatility with our offense. In case you haven't noticed we have two effective running plays a draw and counter, not that hard to shut down when facing legit defenses.
