"I want to make them smarter on the field"
The title is a 'Google' translation of a recent interview Fabricio Oberto had with Olé.
You can head to Google Translate and paste the URL of the article, or just read on if you speak Spanish.
One interesting tidbit from the translated version: When asked about Flip Saunders (and how he calls/texts with his players), Oberto said, "Yes, we speak often. They make me feel important."
H/T: 48 Minutes of Hell
Also: The "official" Oberto press conference will be help at 1 pm today. WashingtonIWizards.com will have a link.

White Players and the Washington Wizards/Bullets
Just wanted to post something I wrote/research I performed regarding white players who played for the Wizards/Bullets in the past 25 years.
As usual, drop your thoughts, etc. in the comments section.
ALSO: We will getting the 08-09 player evaluations started back up soon. This will give us all a chance to further reflect upon the horrendous 08-09 while analyzing what we can expect/hope from individual players in the upcoming 09-10.
HAPPY FRIDAY!

Misguided Characterization of Arenas [via Kevin Broom, The Secret Weapon]
Kevin Broom usually puts out some great posts on his Wizards blog, The Secret Weapon ... but his latest on the 'Misguided Characterization of Arenas' might be his best piece of work I've read yet.
The Target: Fabricio Oberto (and why the chance of landing him just got better)
Mike Jones reports that Oberto remains the top target of the Wizards.
And with the Spurs reportedly signing Theo Ratliff, the chances of the Argentinian landing in D.C. just got a fair bit better.
UPDATE: A link to a report by David Aldridge regarding Oberto was dropping in the comments.
Now, the WaTimes' Mike Jones is reporting that Oberto is "very" interested.
We're a couple more posts away from getting the man his own color-coded interest level chart.
Got something to say on Bullets Forever? Just pick up your phone.
Just wanted to throw out a little site reminder / FYI in case you didn't know ...
Earlier this month, Sports Blog Nation made a couple of key new features available on their network sites.
One, the ability to retweet a post, is fairly evident by those lime green 'retweet' boxes many of you have clearly been using. If you don't know what a 'tweet' is, then sorry, I really can't help you.
The second feature is the ability to now make comments on posts from your mobile phone/device.
So if you are on some sort of "break" at work, perhaps holed up in a stall somewhere doing your business, feel free to check out the site and comment away (just know that you don't have to tell us from where you are commenting -- and no, there's not some sort of IP address tracker that will tag your comment as coming from the basement bathroom in your mom's house).
And folks, as with anything mobile phone related, don't be stupid and use them while you're driving.

Open Thread: Wizards Summer League Game 1 vs. Cleveland
If you paid $15 to watch the NBA summer league and want to complain, or if you want to count how many times you see Nick Young smile, or if you just want to talk about the Wizards, comment away ...

UPDATE: Your Wizards Big Man Free Agent Targets
Chris Wilcox, Sean Marks, Fabricio Oberto, Jamaal Magloire and Mikki Moore.
Excited yet Wizards fans?
I'd be 'content' with Marks or Oberto.
Wilcox? Talented, but fairly questionable as a team player. I'll leave it to Grunfeld & Co. to judge if he's motivated -- he's still young (27 in September), so he should be.
Mikki Moore. Heck no. He's been sort of our ideal free-agency Antichrist here on Bullets Forever.
However, I'd almost rather have Moore than Magloire.
Lazy, slow, out of shape, unmotivated, plays for himself ... all well-known descriptors of Triple-A Jamaal's game.
I don't know the guy personally, but I'm fairly confident in saying he's NOT the type of 'leadership' guy we want slouching around the locker room.
And if the Wizards do happen to sign Moore or Magloire, the floodgates of pissed off will surely open on this very site.
Hope y'all are having a great weekend.
When You See JaVale McGee in The Street, Call Him 'Epic Vale'
JaVale McGee, like many athletes, has gone through a plethora of nicknames.
Coming out of college, his mom Pamela dubbed him the 'Big Secret'. Since the cat has since been let out of the bag, that one is no more.
In October of '08, Caron Butler dubbed him 'Lemonhead' because of his skin color, smile, and youthful facial features. But that's not exactly an endearing term (of course, nicknames don't have to be endearing) ... but still, we want something that young JaVale will want to embrace.
So we come to JaVale's self-given nicknames. In November, he wrote 'Kill + Mode = Chee$e' on his shoes. This spawned a t-shirt from Mr.Irrelevant, and more recently, a @KMCheese34 Twitter account. But this is more like a motto, or a saying, or a mantra, rather than a nickname.
Big Daddy Wookie is the moniker McGee has given himself on YouTube and Twitter. But as nickname etiquette dictates, you can't give yourself one.
Nor will we call the musically inclined McGee 'J-Mac' -- his producer title over on Reverb Nation. Too generic, too easy.
Personally, with his flight patterns and helicopter arms, I've tried to dub McGee as 'The Choppa' ... with perhaps The Governator serving as his hype man one day. But that's rather 'meh' compared to ...
EPIC VALE
First given to McGee but the distinguished Canadian, J.E. Skeets of Yahoo's Ball Don't Lie, Epic Vale seems to fit best.
It uses his name, describes his potential, and is a play off the the culturally relevant phrase, 'Epic Fail' which is the antithesis of what all Wizards fans hope JaVale can be.
The problem being, JaVale McGee doesn't know his own nickname.
When such was suggested to him via Twitter, he responded:
@Truth_About_It lol the only people who call me epic vale is u lol.....no one has ever seen me n was like awwww there's epic vale lol
So, my friends ... people of Wizards Nation, the Bullets Forever community, members of the media who may read this blog, and casual passby ... this is a call for action.
When you see JaVale McGee on the street, on his profile on the Twitter machine ... or wherever, make sure you call him ...
Epic Vale.
UPDATE: Seems like JaVale McGee does not want to be called 'Epic Vale' -- we will see ...

Learning More About Your Potential Wizards
Did you know that Channing Frye once scored a career high 30 points (one of three such 30 pt. occasions), in a win against the Wizards when he was with the Knicks? And that this happened to occur on Gilbert Arenas' birthday?
