Burnt Orange Nation Tubili Reseeds the Teams and Breaks Down the Super Regionals - Texas Tied for #6!

Dear All . . . what a weekend . . . and thanks UT for the bonus Monday game . . . we don't make it easy but it sure is fun!  I have reseeded the remaining 16 teams (see full chart below the jump) to do my analysis of the Super Regionals.  To accomplish this I have used older human polls and restricted the rankings to 1 through 16 (ie I've adjusted where necessary to rank them 1 through 16).  All but one human poll has not been updated (collegiate Baseball is current through today bless their souls).  Based on the rankings shown below the jump (and my own brilliant insight), I offer the following predictions for this coming weekend:  Virginia beats UC - Irvine to advance but it goes three games; Cal beats Dallas Baptist in the battle of #3 seeds in three games; FSU takes down our little Aggie friends in what should be a great match-up in three games; South Carolina finishes off UConn in two straight (lads from up north will wither in the heat); Florida over MSU in two straight (they are just way better than the Bulldogs); Texas prevails over ASU in three (more nail biting in store for us . . . look for Stafford to be huge and our unsung hero); Vandy beats OSU in two straight (Beavers will wilt in the heat); and North Carolina beats Stanford in three.  There you have is . . . by the numbers . . . can't wait!

Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's Blended NCAA Poll for Regionals 6/3/11 - UT up three spots to #5!

Needed to get this up with my predictions for the Regionals.  Nice jump by UT up to #5 before we start.  Below the jump are my final top 31 (Texas State in at #31).  Oddly . . . more ties in the top than I've had all year.  By my amazing poll top 8 national seeds should have been: Virginia, Florida, Vandy, South Carolina, Texas, Florida State, North Carolina, A&M & Fullerton (OK, I know . . . that's nine).  So, who got shafted and rewarded?  Rice rewarded even though I have them at #14!  Shafted are Tex A&M or Fullerton . . . sorry lads.  Let's talk toughest regionals now . . . Hands down the toughest regional is the UCLA regional . . . totally stacked.  Also includes Irvine and Fresno State . . . toughest by far!  Easiest regionals are not hard to spot . . . Virginia has a cake walk as does Florida State, Oregon State and North Carolina.  Texas' path is not easy . . . two other top 31 teams in our bracket.  Hope everyone enjoys the tournament . . .  go Horns even though all signs point to Virginia as champions this year.

Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's Blended NCAA Poll for 5/16/11 - UT back up one spot to #7!

Greetings fellow college baseball junkies.  You will note that UT has jumped a spot up to #7 and the Big 12 continues to represent well all over my top 25.  A&M still comes in at #14.  OU up one spot at #12 and Okie State languishing at #27.  Rice (I knew you wanted to know) up a couple of spots to #19.  Once again, it all comes down (as it should) to the Aggie series.  Virginia is still (and an absolute consensus) #1!  Have a great week . . . Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's Blended NCAA Poll for 5/9/11 - UT slips one spot to #8!

Greetings fellow baseball junkies.  Once again, too bad about Sunday's Nebraska game but the rest of the week, once again, was great.  You will note that UT slipped a spot to #8 and the Big 12 continues to represent well all over my top 25.  A&M comes in at #14.  OU at #13 and Okie State at #25.  Rice (I knew you wanted to know) up a few spots to #21.  UT gets less love this week in the computer polls.  I still feel this fairly well represents where we are right now and I'd still like the bats to wake up a bit more.  It all comes down (as it should) to the Aggie series.  Virginia is still #1 . . . and it's not as close this week as Vandy lost 2!  Have a great week . . . Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's Blended NCAA Poll for 5/2/11 - UT back up two spots to #7!

Well . . . sorry for the delay.  Too bad about Sunday's OU game but the rest of the week was good.  Game Bobcats played great.  You will note that UT is back up to #7 and the Big 12 is well represented all over my top 26 (wanted to throw Rice in @ #26!).  A&M comes in at #11.  OU at #14 and Okie State at #22.  UT gets much more love this week in the computer polls.  I feel this fairly well represents where we are right now.  I'd like the bats to wake up a bit more . . . but we appear to be on track.  All comes down (as it should) to the Aggie series.  Virginia is still #1 . . . but it's a closer call for sure!  Have a great week . . . Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's Blended NCAA Poll for 4/25/11 - UT down two spots to #9!

Well . . . we sank two spots . . . blasted computers . . . they hammered us!  Never fear . . . the game is won and lost on the field and I love the way this team is getting better as we move along . . . too bad about the Saturday pitching outing!  However, Taylor and Cole were MONEY!  In other poll news, A&M sits one spot above us in #8 position.  Big 12 also has OU @ #15 and Okie State @ #23.  In case you were wondering . . . Rice is @ #26 and Texas State (who we play later today) is @ #31.  Virginia is, once again, a consensus #1 . . . well deserved . . . we'll deal with you later!  Enjoy the poll in all it's amazing refinements!

Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's Blended NCAA Poll for 4/18/11 - UT up one spot to #7!

I love UT baseball . . .  even though the lads had a hard time scraping runs this last weekend.  Part of why I do this poll is I have to listen to Craig Way (and I love ya Craig) rattle off UT's rank in about four or five polls before the game starts.  Craig . . . I've done all the hard part for you . . . hence the amazing blended poll!  Five different polls and two types of computer rankings all distilled down into one breathtaking chart.  As in other weeks, the top teams are listed in the first chart.  I then have my sub-work-ups for the Boyd Nation and Kenneth Massey computer rankings.  It's an interesting process.  Once again you will see that we get way more respect from human polls than from the computers.  A few comments about the results this week . . . (1) Virginia is a truly unanimous #1, (2) UT as high as #4 in three different human polls, (3) A&M hanging very solid while our OU lads stumble down the charts, and (4) Texas State is in at #31 . . . in case you care!

Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's Blended Baseball Poll for 4/11/11 - UT up to #8 and a Tie at the Top!

Dear All . . . I know you've been anxiously waiting . . . well it should be worth it!  UT is up four spots to #8 this week after going 3 out of 4.  Sounds like a broken record when I say the humans love us way more than the computer ranking systems!  In late breaking news (yes the last poll I entered caused this) we ended up with a tie at the top between Vandy and Virginia . . . fair to say that the computers and the humans love them!   I'm giving you the top 24 this week as Okie State and Rice round it out . . . and I know you want to see how all these teams are treated by the computers and the human polls.   A&M is still doing quite well . . . just above us at #7 and OU has learned just how suckie they are by tumbling down to #15 . . . that's gotta smart!  For those who have not read this brilliant poll before, the last two columns show computer generate rankings.  I thank Boyd Nation and Kenmneth Massey for their excellent work.  How I rank the teams based on that info is shown below the main poll.  Enjoy!

Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's Blended Poll . . . UT #12!

Dear All . . . sorry for the delay.  Here is the updated poll.  Below the top 20 listing I have also shown my work on the Boyd and Massey components of my poll.  UT gets more love from humans than computers.  A&M in at a strong #6 in latest poll and OU, sucking as usual, below us at #13.

Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's Blended Baseball Poll - UT slips to #10!

Well that was an interesting week.  A pity we lost the series up in Okie State . . . first series loss of the year.  Hoping the bats wake up a bit.  As for the poll . . . a real split between Vandy and Virginia for the #1 spot.  Once again . . . UT more love with pollsters than the computers.  In other news: A&M in at a solid #5, OU way down to #13 (how's real competition feel), Baylor lurking at #27, and Texas State at #26 but the computer polls love our Bobcats (Boyd = 11 & Masey = 16).  If you want the whole story head to my website where I go 30 deep and have all the subdata on Boyd's and Massey's blending.  Tubili's Site  http://tubilipoll.jigsy.com

Burnt Orange Nation To Heck with Hoops and Football . . . UT #7 in Tubili's Blended Baseball Poll!

Yes, I'm still nauseous over UT's exit and the lame calls (non-calls) that assisted our exit.  Yes, I'm still cranky over the football team's swoon . . . however, I'm pleased we swept KSU at the Disch . . . even though our team appears to do nothing that = easy!  Two extra inning nail biters with HOW MANY players left on base that would have given me less trepidation???  In any event, here is the new poll.  UT is now #7 tied with our little Aggie bretheren!  Florida is about as consensus a #1 as you could have.  They win in people and computer poolls.  Interesting how UT gets so much love from the humans and so much less from computers.  I'm assuming that will level out if we continue to WIN!  Out ofb tye top 20 but of possible interest are Rice #27, Baylor #28 and Texas State #30.  By the bye, Texas State is #9 in Boyd's blended rating using my methodology and #20 in Massey's.  Also of interest to me are the lack of poll love for NC and Fresno State even though the computer gush love all over them.  Enjoy the poll and Hook 'Em!

Burnt Orange Nation UT #10 in Tubili's Blended Baseball Poll

UT moves up four places from my last poll.  Nice work guys!  Watched them play the double header and still believe the hitting has a long way to go.  Our lessons for today include: (1) Texas gets far more respect in the human polls than we do in the "mechanical" polls where we come in at #24; (2) Florida is about as unanimous a #1 as you could find; (3) other teams of note . . . Baylor in at #25, Rice at #28 and Texas State in at #29; and (4) we'll have a better idea where OU really stands after they play "real" teams this week. And, in case anyone cares, I'm still chapped that our hoops team got a #4 seed . . . REALLY!

A brief word on my methodology . . . other than pointing out its complete brilliance!  By covering it here I will, hopefully, not need to go into it again.  My weekly blended poll uses five different polls including USA Today, Baseball America, etc.  My poll also factors in two sub blends from Boyd's (http://www.boydsworld.com/baseball/) and Massey's (http://www.masseyratings.com/) sites.  These guys do great work.  With regards to Boyd's, as you'll see below, I use his Pseudo RPI and his ISR rankings.  In order to weigh each evenly, I have multiplied the raw RPI score by a factor of two.  You'll note that under this test . . . UT comes in at #24!   With regards to Massey's, as you'll see below, I use his Overall Rank along with his Power rankings.  Once again . . . UT comes in at #24!   Here is the chart for this week.  I ran it out 24 spots to make sure I show you where UT shows up.  For my own purposes I run both of these out 30 spots.  So, here you go!  This weeks blended poll will follow shortly!

Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's Blended NCAA D1 Baseball Poll . . . do you care . . . poll attached!

Dear Readers . . . I spend a fair bit of time putting together my Blended NCAA D1 Baseball Poll.  I use amazing resources such as Massey's ratings and Boyd's ranking system.  I'm just trying to guage if anyone out there (other than me) gives a rat's hind quarters.  So, please take my poll and let me know if you enjoy seeing the poll on a weekly basis.  Based on the very few comments it has received (got a whole lot more last season), I'm trying to determine if I'll keep posting it.  Many thanks and Hook 'Em!

Burnt Orange Nation Nerd Alert . . . Tubili's Blended Poll - Better than Ever - UT#12

Here is the new poll . . . I'm very pleased.  In have incorporated and sub-blended two components from Boyd's and two components from Massey.  From Boyd's I'm using the Pseudo RPI and the ISR and from Massey I'm blending the Overall Ranking with the Power Ranking.  Those two blended scores show up as the far right columns in my blended poll!  If I did not do that the numbers were looking oddly skewed.  Your Welcome . . . it's a labor of love!

So, OU getting lots of love at #2, Texas tied with UCLA @ #12 (wish we could have tied them in football) and Texas A&M in at #17.  Rice is also in the top 20 @ #19 but Baylor is well below my radar as of the date hereof!  May need to add those pesky little fellows from down the road at Texas State . . . they are humming!  Enjoy.

Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's First Consensus Baseball Poll of the Year - TX #13

Well it's that time again . . . time to distill various polls to arrive at a NCAA baseball consensus without regional (or other) bias.  Some polls are gone this year . . . others appear for the first time.  More info on sources later, but for now . . . here's the scoop.  OU tops Big 12 entrants at #3 . . . well earned.  TCU tops Texas schools for now #8 . . . go Horned ones.  I went 21 deep this time to make sure I could get Rice in the mix.  UT can certainly go up from here!  Go Horns.

Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's Blended Poll With ERA Factored In.

OK, I couldn't resist.  Here is the data for the previous poll with ERA from the NCAA site factored in.  Please note that this is not a "lagging ERA" factor as ERA number is current through 5/30.  Also, I've just used actual ERA ranking in the nation as opposed to a forced number based on an ERA range as I did before.  Since I didn't do that for ISR or RPI I figured I might as well just do it this way.  It does shuffle the deck a wee bit on the top 20 . . . live with it . . . or be happy with my other poll that keeps this factor out of the mix.  I am preparing my annual NCAA Tournament analysis (by the numbers) and will have that posted by tomorrow.  In the interim, enjoy the fruits of my labors.

Burnt Orange Nation UT Skids #3 in Tubili's Pre-Tournament Blended Baseball Poll!

Sorry for the delay . . . was in NYC for a couple of days and suffered through the Big 12 Tourney before I left . . . with a bad taste in my mouth . . . hello pitching???  Once again, no commentary on the team as others do a way better job of that than I do.  For a treat I have shown you the top 25 this week instead of my usual 20.    Newest Tubili blended poll shows the somewhat humbled Horns as the No. 3 team in the nation . . . sigh!  Only other Big 12 teams on the radar are (a) Oklahoma as they move up to #13 from #15, (b) those crafty Aggies up to #23 from #29, and (c) Kansas State crept back into the top 30 . . . at #30.  Other teams of interest . . . TCU up a place to #8 and Rice (yup my daughter went there) just reaching into the top 20 at #20.  And so . . . here ya go!

Burnt Orange Nation Tubili's "Where's the ERA" Blended Baseball Poll

For those of you that just could not live without it . . . here it is and it makes a wee bit of difference in the overall rankings.  Remember, I take the raw ERA (which was updated through 5/23 . . . no real lag this time) and I give the raw ERA a value to create another ranking column for the teams.  ERA of 2.26 - 2.5 = 1; 2.51 - 2.75 = 3; 2.76 - 3 = 5 . . . and so forth and so on (might be a wee bit random . . . but so am I).  I've added the raw ERA numbers in case you care (or wanna check my math).  Yes, Texas is still #1 but ASU emerges as #2 instead of being tied for it.  Coastal Carolina and TCU up a notch each at the expense of Florida and South Carolina respectively.  Miami and Oklahoma also rise a notch at the collective expense of Auburn.  Hope you enjoy the poll.

Burnt Orange Nation UT Still #1 in Tubili's "The Fans Have Spoken" Blended Baseball Poll!

The fans have spoken . . . 31 total votes . . . 16 to boot out ERA and 15 to keep it.  Poll today reflects your wishes.  PG Crosschecker did indeed undergo a sex change operation . . . they are now Perfect Game and so their column has been replaced accordingly. I also adjusted the Boyd's SOS to ISR because SOS is factored into the ISR but there is more to it than that . . . love Boyd's work.  No commentary on the team as others do a way better job of that than I do . . . thanks to you all for that.  Newest Tubili blended poll still has UT as the No. 1 team in the nation . . . but look at the dead heat for 2nd between ASU and Virginia.  Nice!  Only other Big 12 team on the radar is Oklahoma as they move up to #15 from #16 . . . Kansas State fell out of my top 30 . . . but those cagey Aggies snuck in at #29.  Other teams of interest . . . TCU holding at #9 and Rice still just outside my top 20 but up a notch to #21.  And so . . . here ya go!

Burnt Orange Nation UT Still Clear #1 in Tubili's "Even Better" Blended Baseball Poll!

Got tired of waiting for PG Crosschecker . . . still no poll result posted so screw them.  Another very successful week for the UT baseball guys as they got very good pitching from all starters (except for Brandon Workman who looked almost human for a change), great timely hitting (especially at KSU . . . thanks Kevin) and stellar fielding (Texas has 3rd best fielding % in the country!) to go along with it all.  Newest Tubili blended poll still has UT as the clear No. 1 team in the nation.  In an effort to make you all happy, my expanded poll has tweaked the ERA stats this week to make it more realistic and fairer to all.  What I did was ascribe a raw number to an ERA range.  ERA from 2.01 - 2.25 gets a 1; from 2.26 to 2.50 gets a 3; from 2.51 to 2.75 gets a 5, and so forth and so on . . . increments of two for each jump all the way up.  I felt this was a more even handed approach given that the numbers are pretty close together and a huge number might skew my results (ie Auburn gets a 23 instead of a 65 [their actual ERA ranking] and Florida gets a 17 instead of a 27[ditto], etc.).  Latest numbers I'm using are as of May 9th and come from the NCAA site.  I repeat, that's why I call it my "Laggin' ERA".  Thoughts?  Did I get it right?  Only other Big 12 team on the radar is Oklahoma at #16 (up a notch from #17) . . . Kansas State fell out of my top 20 . . . and even my top 30 (barely).  Other teams of interest . . . TCU with a very nice showing at #6 (up from #7) and Rice almost breaking into my top 20 by sneaking up a place to #22.  And so . . . here ya go!

Burnt Orange Nation UT Still #1 in Tubili's Expanded Blended College Baseball Poll!

Sorry for the delay . . . did you miss me? In any event, NCBWA did not post their poll until 1/2 an hour ago!  Another wonderfully successful week for the UT baseball guys as they got, once again, amazing pitching from all starters (and relievers) and great timely hitting and fielding to go along with the pitching!  Newest Tubili blended poll now has UT as the No. 1 team in the nation.  My poll is expanded this week to add in a "Laggin' ERA" column.  This is off the NCAA site and it's about a week old as of when I took the stats.  Only other Big 12 teams on the radar are Oklahoma at #17 (up from #21) and Kansas State down a notch at #29.  Other teams of interest . . . TCU with a nice showing at #7 (up from #11) and Rice slipping a spot to #24.  And so, without further ado . . . voila!

Another stunningly successful week for the UT baseball lads as it got great pitching from all weekend starters and timely hitting . . . make that bashing!  Newest Tubili blended poll raishas ASU as the consensus No. 1 this week.  After a smart fan noted my spreadsheet error . . . that's been fixed as well.  Only other Big 12 teams on the radar are KState at #21 and Oklahoma at #24 (sorry for that beatdown Aggies).  Rice is also lurking at #22 but I have my standards and only the top 20 make my list!  And so, without further ado . . . voila!
