Rockies are winless in Xtra innings this year
Just a quick observation. At the (roughly) halfway point, all teams in baseball have played in extra innings, yet the Rockies are the only team without a win in extra innings (0-4). What is significant about this is that all four extra innings losses have come on the road with the losing pitcher of record being spread throughout the bullpen: 6/29 - at LAD LP:Peralta 6/2 - at HOU LP: Fogg 5/5 - at SD LP: Daley 5/3 - at SF LP: Corpas

Former Rockies Reliever Bobby Keppel Has Been Lights Out in Minnesota
Bobby Keppel pitched just 4 games for the Rockies in 2007 with an ERA of 11.25 (does anyone even remember him?). Since beeing called up by the Twins last month he has yet to allow a run over 11 1/3 innings. Anyone else wish we could have seen this comming?

Matt Murton's Future?
via media.scout.com
Colo Springs Gazette reporting that Murton has a 21 game hitting streak going as of Sunday June 14th (including with the Rox) - doesn't sound right to me but too lazy to fact check. Currently hitting .410 at AAA.
Are we awaiting a Spilly/Hawpe trade to move him back up or is the club looking to sell Murton. It would be a real head scratcher to understand why we went to the efforts to acquire him if there weren't any serious plans for his future at the big league level. Seems yet another OF who needs/deserves some big league ABs but it is understandably difficult with the current overcrowding the Rockies have.

Feedback on Paul Phillips
via d.yimg.com
The 32-year old puts up huge numbers yesterday, going 4 for 5 and driving in 3 runs. The offensive contribution yesterday from this journeyman back-stopper has certainly been a pleasant surprise. All that aside, what really pumps me up about Phillips in his series vs. the Birds is his on-field presence. I love his post-game comments about Baldo, for which he had this to say: "He gets that look, like 'bring it on, I love it." and then, "The guy is an absolute bulldog. You know how it hard it is to hit 99 miles per hour? He could be stubborn with it, but instead he mixes in that breaking ball. He's not messing around." Sounds like a great clubhouse guy to have around.
- Odd baseball blog trivia. Phillips is from Demopolis, Alabama (pop. 7,540) which was the setting for the 1949 John Wayne movie The Fighting Kentuckian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fighting_Kentuckian). He is the first cousin of Andy Phillips who is the top 1B prospect for the White Sox & is currently with the Charlotte Knights (AAA - CWS). Overall a great week for the Phillips' of Demopolis; in addition to Paul's feats on Sunday, Andy batted .444, 1 HR, 4 RBIs last week down on the farm.
Curious to hear what my fellow rowbots have to say about Paul.
