Drinking with Pens fans who like the Nucks?
Hey everyone in the lower mainland. Pens Fan in Denver and her hubby have graced our beautiful province for a visit, and we've been having a chat about getting a bunch of people together while they're here. Is anyone available around the Canada Day long weekend to get together for a drink or 30, chat about our Canucks and show some American friends that we're not all gonna break their windows and burn their car? I know it's a busy time, being the start of summer and all, but it might be nice to have a chance to talk about the amazing season our team just had and maybe even do a little bit of group mourning over the way it ended. Post your thoughts in here (looking at you, CC, smo, dan, JJ, Rida, VG...)
Poker III
OK, so I only got like six votes in the poll for when we do this, and four of those are for Sunday afternoons at 5. So, if nobody complains over the next two days, that's what i'm gonna aim for. If you said you want to play but didn't vote, I hope that can work for you. I'd like to get started this week, but more realistically it will probably be next. Put comments in here quickly if you have a beef with that...
Who's all in? The NMSOP (NM Series of Poker) revisited
OK so I've gotten some comments and thoughts from a number of people regarding this. It looks like we have around 10 people interested, although only 3 or 4 who feel comfortable saying they'd be available more than sporadically. That's pretty good, and I like my odds to win there. So I got an email back from the site and they're all like 'heck yeah go nuts. Tell us when, how many people and buy in." So I'm going back to the well to ask a couple questions here, after the jump. The tournament will be No Limit Hold Em, with a 5$ plus rake buy in (that means a 6$ buy in...5$ goes to the prize pool and one dollar goes to the site). It will be standard 10 minute levels and I believe Chili is 2000 $T starting stacks. This should allow for some good play and let the new people ease in to the game.
captain bandwagon
personally, i'm cool with this...it grows the sport...
NM private poker (online) tourney?
A couple weeks back a few of us here were discussing setting up a poker tourney online. The idea was a private tournament, not big buy ins, and just basically like a little home game for us. This was right around the time the US DOJ destroyed the American online poker industry, and I suggested that playing in an American site (Poker Stars, Full Tilt etc) would be unwise do to the possibility of them having some financial hardship. So I pinged my friend Liz who I've known for some time and is the marketing face/notable pro for a European site. She asked a few questions and they've contacted me indicating some interest in setting this up, but before I go further I'm going to need some facts and input. Ima go below the jump.

felixpotvin Chemmy by mlse The eBay listing for @twolinepass and I round 2 will go up early this afternoon. It'll be a 24 hour auction so get coordinating.
u got yer bidding finger ready? Seems like it's time, and I don't know who would beat us this time around... Be interesting to see what kind of pro canucks things can come out of lamberts keyboard, if any...although if we win it would be nice if @twolinepass said something intelligent on twitter this time... ;)
Bzzzzzzzzzzz
This has all been said before, but right now i'm sitting at work as a useless bundle of kinetic energy, so I may as well right some stuffs. Catharsis, man... So here we sit, just hours away from puck drop. The world goes on, commerce happens and people go about their daily grind all over the world. I gotta say, here in Vancouver there is a sense of expectation I haven't felt since about 3 days before the Olympics started last year. In a purely hockey sense, the last time there was an energy quite like this (that I was actually part of) was in Edmonton in 1987 (I was still in school in 84 and 85, hence wasn't in Edmonton during the first two runs). It's palpable, the excitement. I went to the cafe down the street today to grab my lunch and there was a veritable buzz in there. Strangers who see each other a couple times a week and never speak talking about the game. Everyone with an opinion about how many games it will take the Canucks to wipe the sneer of Patrick Kane's somewhat rodent like face.
The Manny Get Well Card!
I fan shotted this, but maybe it's better as a fan post. As one of the key leaders on this team, and by all accounts a real stand up guy, he's quickly become a fan favorite, not just here but wherever he's played. Although we all have confidence about today's events, sending some extra good vibes can't hurt, right? All the best to Manny today in his surgery; let's all send him some good energy!

HT: Puck Daddy - The wheel of justice!
Wheee. I put in Henrik giving Daniel an obscene gesture and it came up 'hockey play'
List of NHL'ers on Twitter

Maybe it's old, but i'd never heard it...borders on NSFW, but LOL funny

Think reffing controversies are new?
Got this off P.D. It's not only awesome cuz that rude bitch that laughed got shushed, but the fact that the majority of the arena all picked up and got this little girls back in unison is pretty cool. Had to be 'one of those moments'. As Wysh said, it gives u hope for humanity.

TSN's BobMcKenzie's reporting KyleWellwood is signing a 1-yr deal with St. Louis. He'll have to clear waivers.

Was the same tact he took a year ago when we reached him. Too bad. His insight could help fans and young refs understand a tough situation.

How has Stephane Auger made it through the past year, after the Burrows affair? "I've got no comment," he said, 2 minutes ago.

Marlies announced that the club has signed forward Jeff Cowan to a professional try-out contract.
Western Conference Sucks (from a heart condition standpoint)
This is bothering me a bit. Every time I look at the standings, I find myself a bit concerned about the logjam that is the western conference. Here we sit in a 5 way tie for 2nd place today. Granted we have at least one game in hand against all of those teams, but still...we are 1 loss away from slipping to 6th! What's more concerning...for all the laughter that the Flames incite in us these days, they are only 9 pts behind us. NINE POINTS! 5 games. Remember the season before last when we were a bunch of points behind them in January (11 or 12 wasn't it?) then won the conference? Bottom of the conference is a 6 game winning streak vs a 6 game losing streak away from passing us. And they're a team on the rise. Do not like this!

Whitecaps seasons?
Just curious...anyone planning on buying whitecaps season tickets? Anyone interested in sharing a pair where a couple of us split the cost and the games? just set it up as random selection of the games or something? If three people were to do it it would be like 333 each for 6 games each (assuming two seats per game)...I believe they're 500 bux each for kinda midpriced ones for 19 reg season games plus dibs on playoff seats if they make it. Email me twitchy67 at gmail if you're down or comment here.

Just left "the joe". Tough skate today. I looked like datsyuk out there today. Minus the awesome hands, great shot, speed, and hockey sense.

Agent confirms Brendan Morrison WILL accept a PTO (Professional Tryout) offer from Canucks. Said the centre wants to make the club, not just showcase talent.

I am not working, but I can tell you TSN's Gord Miller reports San Jose has signed Niklas Hjalmarsson to a four-year, $14M offer sheet.

Condolences to the Probert family & to Colin Campbell. Campbell really cared about Probert, so badly wanted him to be healthy.
