Before the 2012 season started, many believed Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville was on the hot seat heading into his third season in Lubbock. But after four games, Tuberville's job looks plenty safe. Much could change with a tough stretch to come, but for now, fans of the Red Raiders should have little to complain about with their team 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the Big 12 and inside the nation's Top 25 -- at least in the USA Today coaches poll, where Texas Tech is No. 24. Tuberville and company have an offense that can compete in the Big 12. Led by QB Seth Doege and WR Eric Ward, the Red Raiders are 11th nationally in scoring (43.8 points per game) and seventh in passing yards per game (358.8).
With a 7-1 record and quality wins against a ranked St. John's team, Texas Tech is ranked No. 24 in the College Baseball Newspaper's poll for the first time since being ranked No. 25 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll on March 28, 2005. Through eight games Texas Tech's pitchers have combined for a 2.01 ERA while the Red Raiders have four batters hitting better than .340.
I sure would like to see some of these come to fruition, especially a Bowl game and our defense improving. Will be interesting to see how these predictions pan out...
Texas Tech football coach Tommy Tuberville said Thursday he is more confident than ever the Red Raiders will re-emerge as a contender in the Big 12 under his leadership. Yet, he knows his proclamations alone will not be enough to silence a loud faction of Tech fans and alumni still raging over the dismissal of former coach Mike Leach. "As coaches, we have a job to do," Tuberville said before the start of an alumni function at Gilley's. "I have no dog in that fight.... I'm here now, and I have a job to do. We have to go out and recruit and coach and do the best we can."
Tuberville says Tech building depth to restore winning ways in Big 12Forbes created the list by comparing losing football coaches' salaries to the average salary of other coaches at his school. Tuberville's $2.1 million in earnings last year was 382% higher than his Texas Tech counterparts. It also equates to about $420,000 per win during Tech's 5-7 season.
I guess we will see who is really controlling the conference based on who wins the argument of membership, 9, 10 or 12? Seth, you didn't get a chance to sit in on these discussions, did you?
Is this the kind of humor we are going to have to endure for the next year [emphasis added]: Spencer: I worked for the AAA Sacramento River Cats shooting the brat/hot dog cannon for a season and...
