Steve Garvey's new book
Did anyone hear the interview with Steve Garvey today on XX Sports Radio?
http://www.xxsportsradio.com/common/global_audio/40/960.mp3
He talked about his famous 1984 homerun against the Cubs, his HOF chances, and his years as a Dodgers bat boy. The new book is called My Bat Boy Days (more like My Bad Boy Days). If anyone already has the book, please post a review, if I don't get to it first. Should be interesting!
Go Padres!

It's great that he can't change his past and that he'll always be from East County!
What a great occasion! He even got his own day!

It's gonna snow at Petco Park tomorrow (and Friar Fest announced)
Snow will be at the ballpark tomorrow Sat. Dec. 8 at 9:00 am and they'll be there until the snow melts. That's according to an interview on XX Sports today. Free use of sleds, a flat area for little kids to play in the snow, a bake sale, ornament decorating, etc. I remember seeing a photo of Clothed Giles and one of his daughters. I think it was a snow day at Petco. So, maybe some players will be there.
By the way, the bake sale is for charity, not to help pay better Padres salaries.
During that interview, they also announced that Friar Fest will be the last weekend of Jan. with events that week. Last year, that meant players showed up at different high schools around the county in the evening for presentations, Q and A, and autographs. It might be similar this year.

Jake Peavy Opening for Tim Flannery This Friday...
Yep, that's right. What do good ole' boys do in the off season? It's not baseball...it's music. I heard Tim Flannery on XX Sports tonight saying he and his band, The Enablers (he says his wife calls them that), are playing this Friday at the E. County Performing Art Center www.ecpac.com His opening act is Jake Peavy, who he called "sweet" with his Alabama boyish nervousness on stage with a guitar. Tim also said that Jake will want to go drink wine after he opens but he'll call him back on stage.
I haven't heard either one of them play except on some TV magazine show. It was probably Jane Mitchell's One on One or something. If anyone goes to see these two play something other than baseball this Friday, give us the report!
More info here... www.timflannery.com
Drink up, Jake!
Update [2007-11-7 13:36:1 by jbox]:
I called and found out that the General Admission seats are $25 and the Reserved seats are $35

How to find folks to go to games with....
I'm sure a lot of folks out there have been through the scenario of having tickets in hand and a buddy not being able to attend for whatever reason. Then, you're stuck with a ticket and no one to go to the game with. So...how do you find someone to go with (besides hollering for someone on Gaslamp Ball...not that that's a bad idea, either)? Or, you're traveling and want to attend a game in that city but don't have anyone to go with. Or, you don't have tickets but you want to mooch off someone who does, etc.
Just wondering...is there a web site that matches sports fans with other sports fans on a per game/season basis? There are web sites that are more for social networking with other athletic folks/sports fans but what about if someone wants a date/buddy for a particular game? I see this on craigslist (various cities) where someone wants to find someone to go to a game with and specifies a particular game date. Ever see such a web site?

Who is The Most Interesting Padre in the World (active roster)?
The Most Interesting Man in the World came up in the post "A House and The Claw". Got some interesting characters in the Padres clubhouse right now. Who do you think is the most interesting Padre in the world (right now)? I'm limited to 10 choices in the poll so I stuck with the active roster. Who is he? Does any Padre's blood even come close to smelling like cologne?

Here's a player appearance.... Cla Meredith, Sat. May 12, 11-1.

"Free autographs" by The Claw. Shop for a house and get an autograph. Isn't America great?
I won't make it up there but if anyone does, please give a report!

Non-Naked Bros. Giles Article
There's an article about the Giles Bros. on page 116 of the April issue of San Diego Magazine. It was written by their grandfather about their childhood hunting and fishing adventures. No mention of nakedness but nice nonetheless. Here's a link doesn't seem to be working at the moment... http://www.sandiego-online.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/April-2007/The-Brothers-Giles/

Mythbusters Giles Style
I found this radio interview of the Bros. Giles at Spring Training. http://www.xxsportsradio.com/ Scroll down to "Meet Your 2007 San Diego Padres" and click on "Marcus and Brian Giles" (Wed.) They explain the USA Today article and Marcus' beef at Qualcomm.
Here are the articles they're talking about:
USA Today (Dex introduced us to this 2/28)
Padres.com (Marcus' throwdown at Qualcomm)
Still think they're nutty, wild, but interesting....all at the same time....
