Arizona QB De-commits. Looking at Bruins?
Looks like Nate Sudfeld is considering the Bruins.
One-time WVB setter, Lauren Cook, arrested for leaving accident scene
If Ms. Cook had not transferred to Nebraska after one year, she would likely be the starting setter for the team. There is an interesting story on our current setter, Lauren Van Orden, who transferred from SDSU when Ms. Cook left the program.
Ms. Cook has been ticketed for speeding six times since 2007.
Brandon Willis post-practice interview
Thanks to Jon Gold for uploading this video.
Hearing Mr. Willis talk about his family situation, his decision to return to U.C.L.A., really makes me proud of what our beloved alma mater is about with regards to its student-athletes. This gentleman is well-spoken, well-mannered, and from all indications, has all the physical attributes to be a successful Division 1 Defensive Tackle.
It has been said many times here, but a welcome is never enough - welcome (back) home, Brandon.

My mentee emailed me this link this evening. She is an Alumni Scholar's Club recipient, and in this article she was interviewed for her thoughts on UCLA's campaign to raise awareness for the university's dire need for financial support.
Her own IOUCLA video can be viewed here
You can watch more of this kind of powerful videos here.
UCLA is valuable. We all know that, but its value needs to be recognized now - not when it's too late.
Hope this inspires you to raise awareness and/or contribute.
Here are 10 ways you can take action now.

Eric Byrnes, Enjoy.
Read this today and thought about the two-opinion camps: those who think athletes are overpaid and those who understand it's a market-driven salary.
I am in the latter side of things. Though I'd prefer something from this interview that shows his humanitarian side. Maybe he is (some people keep it private, some people don't).
When he was going up against my team, the Angels, I always admired his hard-nosed approach to the game. Darin Erstad and David Eckstein did that for us.

oh-a-MAH-bay oh-dee-ga-ZOO-a: A Bruin Ambassador In The Making
Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N
It has been alluded to several times that you not only recruit the student-athlete, you recruit their mother as well. It is an easy argument to make that most commits in the country make their commitment with a great deal of weight placed on their parents' input. In general, we can say that these kids have the right support and the guidance from their family. And since this post is really about Owa, I want to pay close attention to Owa's mom:
Judging by this interview it's clear to me that Owa and his mom are very close - for that matter, his is a close-knit family. I am particularly moved by his mom's emotional (albeit short) interview; you can tell she's a very proud mom and that she believes her son is mature enough to leave home and that Owa is now joining a new family, that of the Bruins family.
As a recent alumnus of this great university, I am very proud that our very own, beloved university is recruiting, firstly, students and secondly, outstanding athletes.
Owa is a superstar in the making, but what I am more thrilled about is what he may represent: a potential ambassador for our great institution.
You may want to read the article about Owa's commitment to play for the University of...California, Los Angeles here.

Another W. Vball leaving program
I brought this up a few weeks ago. I know our long-time, legendary coach has retired but does this avalanche of our top student-athletes leaving have to happen? This is a sign of something - and it may not be a good one.
Hoping this is temporary and the program will be winning national championships soon. I mean soon.
Developing: Lauren Cook leaves team
I just read a story on two sites that our No. 1 Women's Volleyball recruit, and another top recruit, just left the team.
This is really disturbing. I hope there's not a negative trend going on here. It's already obvious that our MBB team is going through its roughest season, and now this. If someone in the know can shed a light.
NOTE: Nestor, you may delete this as soon as someone picks up on the story.
Renardo Sidney + UCLA
It appears that CBH is about to land another talented recruit. Most of us have heard about Sidney for he plays for Fairfax HS, the same HS Shipp attended. In the midst of two losses over the past week, this news will surely delight Buin Basketball fans.
In the meantime, I am hoping our boys can turn this adversity into a positive outlook. No great team wins it all without going through some kind of adversity.
