I am going on a cruise this weekend and will be in Vancouver all day on Saturday. Does anybody know if this game is aired in Canada?

A call to action for the assault on AA2

I have collected a list of contacts to send complaints to in regards to the assault on AA2. Included in the list are relevant Pac-10 officials and the President, AD and coaching staff of the UW.

And just so we know what values Morris was not living up to with his assault on AA2 and what standards of conduct McCable is not enforcing, I have included the Pac-10 Conference's Mission Statement (copied straight from their very own website).

If you have any more names of who else we can pressure on this travesty, please add them to this diary.

KD's play calling CAN deliver a Bruin win

If of course it is being utilized by the opposing coach.

Jeff Tedford's play calling today looked like it was coming from KD's back pocket. I just don't understand what he was thinking and how he thought that type of conservative offense would win this game. Well maybe he thought since his opponent was Karl Dorrell that he could win today's game from his kitchen table. I don't know.

I never played football (too busy being a cheerleader and not enough body mass) so before I jump to criticize a coach's play calling I try to consider the idea that there may be some complexities or nuances to football that I don't recognize. But still some of these coaching decisions just don't make sense.

For example, I will never understand why Karl Dorrell even considers punting the ball away while in his opponent's territory. I will also never understand why last year in South Bend Karl Dorrell, in the final possession, ran the ball up the middle to no avail but then this year against Notre Dame decided to throw the ball against a team with a horrible rush defense. Again to no avail. Last week I couldn't understand why Tedford, rather than go for a tying field goal, left his first-time-off-the-bench freshman QB on the field to try and pull out a win in a high pressure situation where there was a strong possibility that he would choke (which he did). And today, I did not understand why Jeff Tedford, looked like a graduate of the Karl Dorrell School of How to Coach Conservatively and Lose Everytime.

If KD can just get a few more copies of his playbook to the remaining conference coaches, then the PAC 10 title may very well be his. It will be a great going away gift to take with his office belongings at the end of the season.

Don't take BN for granted

In the past two years I have been amazed with the time and energy put into BN; which is more than evident in the content on the site. However, it is not until I look around at other schools' blogs that I truly get an appreciation for what you guys continue to create here for all of us to enjoy.

I just spent much of the past hour looking at the Cal blogs for links that I could send to my uncle. What I found looked like junior high projects compared to what is happening on BN. One blog hadn't even been updated since Saturday morning. BN would have had at least four new posts since the moment the last second tick down on the game clock.

And the same props goes for the readers. On any given day over at cc, you can find many lengthly posts with 0-3 comments. it has to be an awful feeling when you spend so much time creating content for readers who don't seem to exist (or at least don't care enough to make a comment).

Anyway, on this bye week let me just take the time to say I really appreciate what you guys do here at BN. It really does add to the enjoyment of my day/week/life.

KD's Algebra

My coffee was hot, my toast was well buttered and I was on page two of the LA Times sports page when I read Karl's comment in reference to his latest coaching embarrassment:

"It is what it is." To me, that is the most annoying five-word phrase in the the English language. It is what it is? What in the hell does that mean anyway? Any time I hear an athlete spew that self-absolving cliche, I cringe; this time I got angry. It is like a bad algebra equation: x=x.

Guess what Karl, you have to define x with something other than x or else it doesn't mean anything. What is "it"? We sure as hell can't tell what your "it" is, but we know what you are and we know your algebraic equation:

KD = a+w+f+u+l

No more fuzzy math. No more horrible football. No more stupid ass cliches. No more Karl Dorrell.

The BN Awards?

Has there ever been any thought put into having end of the season awards for BN? Not only for Favorite Bruin Athlete or Football MVP, but also Favorite Post, Funniest Comment of the Year, etc.?

Some of the comments are so funny that I think they should get some sort of recognition.

I finally got to hoist my UCLA flag.

I've always wanted a flag pole and finally installed one over the summer so I could:

fly my American flag and
fly my UCLA flag on game day (fb, hoops and baseball)

I was out of town for the first two games so the Utah game was my first official hoist. It will now go up on every game day, all day. Win, lose or blown out of the water.

Go Bruins! How's that for positivity?
