Hobbs named new director of basketball ops

Former George Washington head coach Karl Hobbs takes over as the men's basketball director of basketball operations.

Andre Drummond says he won't play for UConn next season; will he ever?

1

Yes, I'm as surprised as you are that high-schoolers wear arm sleeves.   Andre Drummond, the not-yet-18-year-old Uber-college/NBA prospect and pride of Connecticut, has the world at his feet. B...

The evilest ice cream flavor ever: 'Rockin' Randy'

You can tell Edsall didn't pick the flavor out himself. Those chocolate chips are way too wild for his tastes. (H/T: Holly Anderson.)

Kemba signs with Under Armour

+

In case you're thinking of updating your kicks closet, Kemba Walker has officially signed up with Under Armour to become their newest pitchman. Unfortunately, their relatively new basketball division of their footwear ain't as productive (or attractive) as some of their other sports.

TrueHoop: Walker a winner, for better or worse

7

So, I'd been saving up all my Kemba Walker/NBA draft thoughts to drop into one big post. ... And then I wrote it somewhere else. But even though it doesn't have a substance-abusing husky dog looking over your shoulder as you read, I'd still recommend checking it out. Because my ego won't feed itself.

TheSuperOpenThread: UConn vs. South Carolina, Game 1

Hooray baseball! Melancholy Matt Barnes and the Huskies take on South Carolina in Game 1 of their best-of-three Super Regional in the Dirty South. The perpetually sad Barnes (11-4, 1.62 ERA), the...

The future is now, and it's alphabetized

After a banner season in 2010-11, the UConn football team is in a state of flux. Gone from last year's Fiesta Bowl-losing team are jitterbug extraordinaire Jordan Todman, every starting linebacker,...

"Quite frankly, Jamal was the throw-in. When you saw Alex, even as a young guy, great student and great kid — Jamal was a good student and a good kid, too — but Alex seemed to be the limelight guy. He was the one who was the McDonald's All-American, a big, strong physical kid. They wanted to go to school together. The more we saw of Jamal — I remember taking a trip early in his senior year just to reassure him that we really wanted him. We had to reassure him that he was an important part of our recruiting process."

Jim Calhoun, stating the obvious, I guess, back at the Final Four. Not sure if this has made the rounds before, seeing that it's a fairly dated quote. Nor am I totally sure if Calhoun told the truth and tried to back track, or if the first part wasn't as harsh as he meant it. But, well, there it is.

So I guess this is our 'thing' now, huh?

So many trick shots. (H/T: Courant.)

Ford's Mock Draft 1.0: Kemba No. 5 to Kings ($)

3

In his first mock draft of the year, ESPN.com's Chad Ford has Kemba Walker going to the Sacramento Kings with the No. 5 overall pick, one spot before Kentucky's Brandon Knight and four down from the highest-rated PG in the 2011 class, Kyrie Irving. The lottery still hasn't happened, so the draft slots are based solely on records, not ping-pong balls (how novel). But it's a pretty clear sign that Walker is a shoo-in for a top-10 slot in this awful, awful draft.

Jamal Coombs-McSeeYaLater: UConn sophomore to transfer

4

Well, there had to be at least one. After each UConn basketball season ends, the search for which down-on-his-luck-former-highly-touted recruit will leave the program begins. Last year, both Darius...

According to the report, Andre LaFleur, a UConn assistant coach and one of its top recruiters, will be named associate head coach at Providence. (H/T: @JacobsCourant)

I fully plan on coaching basketball next year. You know, once again, we’ll have time in the next couple of months as I settle down, as we kind of look over everything, and I fully expect that I would. … I’ve always been in love with basketball, I’ve never fallen out of love with basketball, but this team reaffirms me that kind of what we’re doing is worthwhile because the kind of kids you have.
