Double-T Nation Tommy Bowden

Chris Level is posting on his Twitter page that Tommy Bowden or another Bowden is in the mix. Thoughts?  I'm not sure how I feel about this, it could be pie in the sky, but having a Bowden at the helm would be good for recruiting right?  I don't know how they would fit in with our offense and they'd probably want their own staff, so maybe it would harm recruiting, but again this is all ifs and buts.

Double-T Nation Happy New Year to all

I wasn't going to comment, as much of what I'm going to say has already been said, but as one smarter than I said, screw it, why not!  I'll freely admit I don't know as much as others do about this situation we now find ourselves in, so in an attempt to answer some of my questions, I'll throw some out at you to see if you can help me this whole debacle up, and I'll give my opinion, because, well that's what blogging is all about!

First of all, I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a great new year, because as much as all of this matters to me some things are more important.  Second, a personal thank you to Seth for creating and maintaining an excellent site, in all of my musings the first place I turn to is DTN, you sir are a credit to the entire blogging nation.  Feel free to answer all, some, or none, but just have a think about it for me!

OK so here goes,

1.  We all know who is to blame for this situation, but what can tangibly be done that will ensure that a change is made for the better?

2.  Is there any chance of getting a quality coach that will consolidate and build on and most importantly improve on the position the team is in, with the financial situation that will result from the legal matters (because as we all know, in legal matters there are 3 sides and the lawyers always win(only kidding, lol)) and the reduced revenue  from less fans attending games in the short term?

3.  What is the best possible outcome for Texas Tech out of this embarrassment?

4.  To you out there who have turned your back on Texas Tech, is there any way you would support the players on this team?  Never mind the administration, how could you find yourself watching and supporting this tam of student athletes?

5.  Does Mike Leach Win, and what are the repercussions either way?

6. What can Texas Tech University do to to repair the PR nightmare they have brought upon themselves

7. Will you be supporting the team tomorrow?  If so how?

8.  Do you ever envision a scenario where the President, the Chancellor, the board of regents, the athletic director resign, and if you do, what kind of a University would be left in the wake?

9. If money wasn't in the equation, who would you love to see as the head coach of Texas Tech

10. Can Craig James ever go back to work?

So to my opinions:

1. well that's the $64,000 question (could everyone please make their cheques out to P Murray), firstly win the Alamo Bowl, quickly hire a coach that the players and recruits believe in and move forward as a team.

2. The only scenario I see this happening is Ruff takes over, Riley is made OC and they both step up on both sides of the ball, the players get behind them and the recruits reaffirm their commitment to TTU.  I don't think we can afford Tubberville and neither Dykes nor Briles are good enough to coach the team that the captain built!  In short, unlikely.

3. The only way I see this going away is either something huge happens at another school, or TTU proves its case, I can't see either, and you know the best thing for Mike Leach to do is to keep this relevant in the media (OH THE IRONY!)  In a perfect world all of the parties in this sham slink into the night, but that ain't gonna happen, hopefully someone resigns or is told to leave (prob Myers, he's the easiest scapegoat and has the least clout), to appease the angry hordes banging at the door, but whatever happens I understand to some people it just wont be enough.

4. I support the players on this team and will continue to do so, because as much as I love and respect Mike Leach (for the record, I think it is disgusting what has happened and think he has been treated extremely egregiously) I love Texas Tech, and Texas Tech football by extension more.

5. Yep, He screws Tech for as much money as he is due and depending on future hires, this football team either goes from strength to strengh or sinks into obscurity.  Oh and Myers is told to retire either way (even though I know he has a hand in this, he has become the easy target, and the more important players hide behind him).

6. I honestly don't know, a lot will depend on the outcome of any hearings as to who is to blame, but Texas Tech is much more than an athletic department, and I think that the move to Tier 1 will be hyped as much as possible should it come to fruition (if it hasn't already, sorry I'm not aware of this situation)

7. Yes, the only way I can from Scotland, I will be watching them, and as much as I loath to do it, I can only do this through ESPN360, after the game I am requesting an end to my subscription

8. A snowball's chance in hell, seems apt.  It would mean the end of Texas Tech University, and TTU is again much more than its athletic dept.

9. ME obviously, it's my dream job, but seriously, I'd more like to see someone with huge potential who would grow with the program than an established coach that sees it as a job, and possibly a stepping stone. (a guy called Mike Leach kind of fits the bill and is now available, UNFORTUNATELY)

10. I think he has burnt too many bridges and I don't think ESPN will want him back, after he acted so unprofessionally.

Well there you have it.  My views, as given, feel free to disagree, but I'd love some discussion on some of the points, please be open minded, but honest (brutally if you must)

Now I know that this isn't a huge survey, but I was shocked that so many other big 12 fans thought we are the rudest, and least polite! any thoughts???
I know I have only ever been to one TTU game, but all of the fans I met were extremely nice and polite, am I wrong, did I not see a so called ugly side that away fans see??? I'm gobsmacked!

Double-T Nation A couple of Questions I'm asking myself

I know you are all probably asking yourselves this question, but I thought it might help to say them out loud (metaphorically, obviously).  Or you might not, so let the discussion commence.

OK so here's what I'm asking myself:

Q1. Would all of this Twitter nonsense have happened if we had won

A1. No, of course not, but then this raises another question

Q2. Why was it allowed to arise, surely someone must have forseen something like this happening, didn't Harrison Jeffers comment on his Facebook page after UT?

Q3: Does Mike Leach not have a Twitter account too?

Q4: Why was Brandon Carter so annoyed that he posted what he did, it doesn't seem like enough to warrant suspension, just that he was expecting more.  I know that to air your dirty laundry in public is a stupid thing to do, but I think there is more to this, I think he's questioned some of either Leach's calls and that's got him suspended.

Q5: Why is it that TTU is always caught up in this crap, why is it that if something happens, it isn't kept in house, and why does it all seem to revolve around Leach, with his contract, BC and MW, it looks extremely unprofessional and makes us look like idiots.  Secretly I think Leach loves it!

Q6: Why was Leach late to his meeting, surely that sets a bad example, be late for a meeting, its ok, so maybe its ok to be late with a pass, or assignment or route.  Maybe I'm reading waaaay too much into this, but is Mike Leach's dedication and commitment to TTU in question, is he just calling plays for the fun of it, does he really care if we win or lose?

Q7: Is there anyone on this TTU team that will step up, say 'Right lets cut out all of this Bullshit, play like a team, play like the true Texas Tech, start practicing and playing like your life is on the line and cutting out all of the stupid things that are tearing down what should be a Big 12 Championship team!'  I really hope so because if not we could take a huge step in the wrong direction, and I really hope it is Taylor Potts.

I think Brandon Carter is silly to have aired his views so publicly, it should have stayed in house, but he did have a point, why in the hell did a far superior TTU team on paper lose to a good but beatable Houston team, was there a lack of commitment, or in house fighting between players, or are the coaches just not coaching properly, or is it something else, are we just not as good as we think we are?

I know a lot of you will say right lets just move on, New Mexico will be easy and boost morale for conference play, but there must be something deeper there and its up to the coaches to cut it out and get everyone's head on straight!

This is from scout but it's a free story, don't know how long it stays like that or anything, but sounds great to me!

Double-T Nation Recruiting

You probably wont know this but I'm from the UK.  Before 2005 I had no idea about college football.  As part of my uni course I spent a year in Texas, specifically San Angelo, and I grew to love the game.  I had no idea about rules, tradition, conferences, Air Raid offenses, anything really, but I learned, I think I have a lot of it down, but recruiting still eludes me.

I know its hard recruiting against, Texas and Oklahoma, even TAMU, Baylor and Okie State in the state of Texas, never mind adjoining states, but I wonder if it is the offensive and defensive schemes that make it hard for our players to get into the NFL, is it geography that hinders what should be a great class every year, is it the quality of our recruiting coaches, or is it down to money, OR is it something else?  I find it frustrating that Tech loses out to other teams in the Big 12 in terms of elite recruits and I don't know why.

In the spirit of wanting to learn I was hoping that this could start a debate on recruiting and where Tech stands ( maybe I'm completely wrong) and wondering if you good folks could make me wiser?
