Dalonte Hill accepts MD Job
InsideMDSports reporting that Hill has in fact agreed to be part of Mark Turgeon's staff. This should give the Terps a big leg up in recruiting as Hill and Bino will rock the DMV. It's a pretty exciting staff they put together. I really don't know how long Hill will last because he wants to be a head coach, but you have to like the hire. Link is here. Salary is in 325K-350K range. That's expensive but not too bad considering he was making more than that at. K St. Go Terps!
Shaq Cleare has MD on top
So, I want to preface this post by saying I can't speak for the credibility of the source on this one. But, Paul Ratliff, a writer for boxofmess.com who did an earlier piece on Judge tweeted this yesterday: "2012 C Shaquille Cleare has Maryland atop his list according to his AAU coach Aaron Harrison." The tweet can be viewed here. Anyways, I don't think this has been reported before. So, I hope it's true and authentic. God knows we'll need Shaq in 2012.
Desmond Hubert to UNC
Dave Telep of ESPN tweeted that Desmond Hubert is a done deal to UNC. The tweet can be viewed here. It's really unfortunate. Des could have had major playing time at UMD if Jordan leaves and could have become something special. Inside Carolina also confirmed here

Jordan Williams Gone?
The Twitter rumor mill is buzzing with rumors that Jordan Williams has left to declare for the NBA draft. From The Terrapin Nation, " Well it looks like the basketball team had their meeting this afternoon and it appears Jordan Williams might not have been in attendance. Jordan Williams sent out a series of tweets to Maalik Wayns who has also been rumored to be considering entering the draft. The two tweets in question are below"
The tweets can be seen here
-So it seems he may have already left campus...yikes!
All I can say is this is not good. I hope he changes his mind, but for now it doesn't look good.
-I do want to emphasize that these are rumors. I do hate rumors myself, but thought these were too important to ignore.
Justin Anderson Commits to MD
Justin Anderson committed to Maryland at his high school today. Montrose Hoops tweeted "Congrats to Justin Anderson and his commitment to the University of Maryland. WOOOOO!

Maryland Officially Back on The Bubble
Unfortunately I don't have a screen shot to prove it, but I was watching Sportscenter highlights and they had the "Last Four In" and the "The Last Four Out" teams. Maryland was one of the teams listed under "last four out." Considering where we were just a little while ago, it was nice to see that we still have a shot. Remember, Gary's teams are used to playing with their backs against the wall. Also, if Stoglin can continue to be that third consistent scorer (aside from J-Will and Dino) we have a chance. The UNC game means a lot, and would do wonders for our chances. Go Terps!
Journalism and the Rumor Mill
I just want to preface this post by saying that I think testudotimes has done a good job emphasizing that a rumor is just that: a rumor. I just wanted to discuss my disgust at the current standard of journalism that twitter has exacerbated. I've always been skeptical of sources who reported a big story. But, being naive, I usually just accepted them as fact. When I was following the Franklin story, I was checking Twitter all the time to see if something had happened. Then, the Washington Post reported that Malzahn took the Vandy job and Franklin was staying, which lead the Diamondback to report a similar story. In my opinion, someone should have been suspended for that story. If we take plagiarism so seriously (see Will Selva story), then misinformation should probably be regarded with some seriousness. Everyone wants to be the first to break a story, and therefore journalism has become a swirling of rumors. I gave up reading the rumors until I heard it from Vandy's administration. Then came our coaching situation. I do think this blog got a little caught up in the Mike Leach is our coach talk (although I still think he will be our next coach). But there have been a billion stories with Leach, Malzahn, and even an NFL offensive coordinator. I think there needs to be some accountability for these news outlets that report misinformation, and I think it's sad to see a crumbling of journalistic standards. Once again, this is not an attack on this blog (I love this blog), but just my thoughts on the degredation of journalistic standards. What are your thoughts?
Malzahn turns down Vandy....probably
ProFootballTalk is reporting that Malzahn will turn down the Vandy job. That makes Franklin the front-runner for the job. This probably means that Franklin is gone. It also could mean the Fridge gets an extension. Here is the link.

ALL ACC TEAM!
The All-ACC Team was announced today. Torrey Smith, Tony Logan, Kenny Tate, and Alex Wujciak all made first team All-ACC, while Joe Vellano made the second team. Paul Pinegar received an honorable mention. To give some perspective, 3 Hokies made the 1st team, while 4 Terps also made the 1st team. Considering the talent on Vtech, that is quite the accomplishment. I think DOB should have at least got an honorable mention, but still a very impressive amount of players which is an indicative of an impressive season. GO TERPS!
Kentucky after Baru
Hate to kill the beautiful Terps momentum, but it appears Kentucky was in the gym to watch Baru today. His father confirmed. One tweet from @WildcatRecruits read "Reports coming out that UK was in the gym to watch 2011 C Adjehi Baru today. Baru is rated #26 overall and #3 at the center position." Here's the link

Eric Hayes to Spain
Eric Hayes is going to play basketball in Spain. Here's an InsideMDSports Forum About it. I wish him the best of luck, and hope he wins a championship or something.
Ok, words words words words words. It's hard to type 75 words. ESPN Random Story:

Eric Hayes off Wizards Roster
I don't know if this has already been posted, but Eric Hayes is no longer on the Wizards summer league roster. He was cut after the team dwindled its roster down to 13. Here's the link:

Can Greivis defend?
On Seth Davis' College Basketball Mailbag, someone asked the following question:
I'm curious as to why Maryland wasn't on your list, yet they are second in the ACC, and there are teams like UConn which are under .500 in their conference. The Terps have a lot of experience with [Greivis] Vasquez (the first player in ACC history to score 1,000 points, collect 700 rebounds and 600 assists), [Eric] Hayes and [Landon] Milbourne, and [Jordan] Williams is starting to develop as a center.
-- Drew Love, Baltimore
First of all Greivis has 2,000 points, not 1,000. So, Seth Davis you're stupid for not catching that. But, his answer is more irritating.
He says, "Also, Greivis Vasquez does not play any defense. They like to hide him by having him guard someone who's not good."
I think this is complete BS. Gary Williams has at times cited Greivis as one of the better defenders on the team. I think Davis is completely wrong in his assertion. What do you guys think?
Some Good News for Terps Basketball.
I know Terrence Ross and the loss to W&M put a damper on the holiday season for all of us, yet there is a little bit of good news. Last night, "Born Ready" and Cincinnati beat Uconn, which makes our loss to them look a little less daunting. Also, today Wisconsin beat Ohio State. They also beat Duke earlier in the season, so that seems to be a legitimate loss also. Lastly, Indiana beat Michigan today. I know they're both pretty terrible, but all of these things help Maryland. I don't want to worry about the NCAA tourney too early, but I just thought I'd give you some positive things to look at. Also, to continue with the theme of looking on the bright side, don't forget W&M have won 9 in a row, and also took down Wake Forest. They are no Morgan State, they're the real deal. Lastly, T-Ross has said Maryland is essentially still the favorite. Respect his uncertainty, and I'm sure he'll make the right decision. If he doesn't, then I don't care what you do. Happy New Year!
Duke's Loss: What does it mean for Maryland?
As you all have probably heard by now, Duke suffered its first loss of the season to Wisconsin. I'm wondering if the win was good or bad for Maryland. I think the win is mainly positive because Maryland lost to Wisconsin, and now the loss seems less significant. Yet, the game did allow the Big-Ten to win the Big-Ten/ ACC Challenge. Let me know what you guys think about Duke's first loss of the season. Go Terps!
