Bleed Cubbie Blue How would you make changes for 2012?

Now it seems that we finally have a (good) GM, what actions would you like to see for the upcoming season? Obviously, this team has major problems in areas - so how would you address those weaknesses?

Here are a couple of ways I would address the 2012 Cubs and make changes to the current roster (or disaster for some).

On Aramis Ramirez:

"He gets his stats at the end of the year every year but defensively he's just fallen off the face of the earth. As a baserunner he kills you, he's a log jammer on the bases, and I'm not buying any of this leadership for Starlin Castro stuff at all."
"A lot of pitchers would never go public with this information ... double-play balls that aren't turned because Aramis takes so long to get rid of the ball to get it to second base. He's gotten a number of second baseman just clobbered out there on double-play attempts. In the grand scheme of things it may seem like a small thing but over 162 games, the double plays that you don't turn that lead to more pitches for your pitcher, that lead to more opportunities for the opposition."

Bob has been quoted alot recently.. saying that he wouldn't rule out managing for the Cubs if Quade is let go, and now saying what we all know about Ramirez.

I do think it's alittle over rated that Ramirez only puts up numbers late, but his defense is not good - and he's not the leader I would want Castro to follow.

Cubs. Despite winning a World Series with the Marlins. God, I miss him. Is their anyway we could clone him and make him 28 again?

Scott Rolen over Aramis Ramirez????????

Are you kidding me? His OPS is .682! His OBP is below .280!? Who in the world picks these things? Do they throw darts at names?

First no-hitter for Peoria since 1988. This kid has been fantastic this year. He struck out ten Lumberkings, he only walked two.

Bleed Cubbie Blue The Cubs are always a step behind...

1984, 1989, 2003, 2007, 2008.

All of those years, we believed the Cubs could finally conclude the ineptness that has plagued it's fans for generations. During those years we thought at some point of time that it could finally happen. Typically, if your a Chicago Cubs fan, you have been fooled one too many times. But why? Why has this organization failed time and time again? Is it a curse? Is it Wrigley Field? Hell -- is it ME?

The Cubs have struggled consistently for quite sometime and really have never had an consistent winner on the field for a prolonged amount of time. Despite winning back-to-back NL Central titles in 2007, and 2008 -- they are still not an consistent winner. But why? With a payroll of 134 million, the team ought to be somewhat successful right?

'#Cubs mgr Quade confirms James Russell will start in series finale vs #RedSox"

Pathetic. I just don't understand what in the world Mike Quade sees in this situation. Not only is Russell not a starter, it completely overuses the bullpen. I know the Cubs are off on Monday, but it still makes no sense to have a AAA rotation when no one can be an option for one start. Bibens-Dirkx is the probable pitcher for Iowa for Sunday, he could of made more sense than this.

Rumors are flying about the Giants having interest in Jose Reyes, but something that might be more relevant for the Cubs -- are the Mets interested in trading David Wright? Wright, who is 28, might become too pricey for the Mets and the Cubs could have a need at 3B if Ramirez is not back in 2012.

Something to think about, at least.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Minor League Wrap -- August 13th

Not trying to do Josh's job, but obviously something is not right because he usually does these everyday. In the past, I have been the one to fill in due to emergencies, so I will post yesterday's wrap, if no one disapproves. If needed, I will do this until Josh returns but I assume he will tonight.

In my opinion we should vote for Marlon Byrd.

Not only has he been a pleasure to watch with his unselfish attitude and leadership.. he has been a our best hitter. Even though WAR shouldn't be taken too seriously so far this year, he has been a 3.0 Win Above Replacement, and worth well over his contract value (12 million).

He's also been above average defensively.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Why rebuilding wouldn't be the worst thing...

Ok, I admit it. I've seen the way this team has performed all season and being the Cub fan that I am -- I simply don't even want to think about the word rebuild. If you've been a Cub fan for 15 years+, you have seen enough rebuilding for a lifetime. Hell, this franchise has been rebuilding for damn 102 years and counting. In this post, my goal is to give my opinion on why I think this team isn't a championship caliber team and why the next rebuilding stage may bring us the thing we all crave and want... a World Series Championship.

"When you're not scoring runs, you better put your best defense on the field -- that I can tell you," Piniella said after Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. "You can't afford to give up runs when you're not scoring."

I'll believe it when I see it.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Game 7 of the World Series, who's pitching?

Had an interesting debate with a fellow Cubs fan today, in which, he would want Zambrano to get the ball in the event we need to clinch or win a series. I counter, saying that Dempster is right now (and has been for the last two years) the best pitcher of the staff and the most consistent. Zambrano, IMO is the most talented, but has been way too inconsistent to be counted on in a high caliber game.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Review: MLB The Show 2010

Mlb_2010_medium

via media.gameplaybook.com

One of the best overall sport games in it's current generation -- Sony's MLB: The Show returns for another year, with high expectations and for another year -- it's meets and exceeds expectation. The problem that many face with the series is that it is only featured for the Sony products (PS3, PS2, PSP) and many XBOX and Wii baseball fanatics are stuck with the mediocre MLB2K series. If your a true baseball gamer, like myself, it's almost worth ditching your Xbox 360 or Wii to obtain the Playstation consule. That's how deep The Show is.

More after the jump....

Bleed Cubbie Blue I look forward to seeing Harden pitch

Since I've became a Cub fan when I was 6 years old -- I've always had my favorite players. First it was Ryne Sandberg, Dawson,  Sutcliffe... then it was Sosa, Grace, and Wood. I always loved seeing Sosa at bat, because I knew greatness was a very high possibility when he came up to bat. I always loved watching Wood pitch because he always had a chance to throw a no-hitter with the stuff he had. When Prior came up -- I never missed a start.. always had to make sure I was either at the game, or I saw it on TV.

In this generation of Cubs - I have a favorite hitter and pitcher that I have to see almost every at-bat or every single pitch. Aramis Ramirez has always been a joy to watch and he always has the potential to make something happen when he comes up to the plate. On the pitching side - I love to see Harden pitch. Just a pure domination most of the time when he pitches. When we acquired him last year, I was happy as punch because as much as we love Z sometimes we don't know if he is gonna be lights out the way Harden can be.

I thought I would share my perspective just so we could all express who we love to see come to bat and who we have to see pitch. We all have different favorites for different reason, so feel free to say who you love to see play!

That's harsh. Very harsh in my opinion. If Albert Pujols does the same thing does he get 2 games? Not in my opinion.

Bleed Cubbie Blue You tell me your 2009 Cub story (what will happen this year?)

We are getting closer and closer folks! Will this be the year? Will we finally see a playoff win or maybe even advance?! Well this diary is dedicated to all who think they might be able to tell the story of the 2009 Cubs.

Give me your MVP's, your "ace" pitcher of the year, and the surprise player of the year .. and of course .. give your story!

Ok, I'll start. First and foremost.. i'll start to paint the story by giving my MVP's and so on.

Team MVP: Derrek Lee / Milton Bradley

Ace Pitcher of Year: Rich Harden (16-3, 2.87 ERA, 1 CG)

Surprise Player: Mike Fontenot (.280 AVG, 12 HR, 70 RBI)

My 2009 Cubs story: The 2009 Cubs start out "ok" .. flirting with .500 for the first 20 or so games. From that moment on .. the Derrek Lee led Cubs go on a tear. Derrek Lee has a strong year and will gather some league MVP consideration as he hits .305 .. with 34 HR and 115 RBIs to go along with 46 doubles. Milton Bradley performs near his 2008 numbers, and proves to be the left handed bat needed in the middle of the lineup. Soriano has a 30-30 season, also. Like 2008, the Cubs flirt with 100 wins .. but this time they advance in the playoffs.

Aramis Ramirez is the big hero in the NLDS, along with staff ace Rich Harden. Harden -- who still needs his regular rest to be the potent pitcher that we all know he can be --  is determined to prove that he can be healthy over a full season. In the end the Cubs win ar World Series title and their first in 101 years.

What's your 2009 Cub story?

Bleed Cubbie Blue Fukudome in danger of losing starting job

"We need him to start hitting," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said before Sunday night's game against the Cardinals. "If not, I'm going to have to start looking for other options."

Fukudome's batting average splits have decreased each month: .305 in April, .293 in May, .264 in June, .236 in July and .125 in 24 August at-bats. He has one home run since the Fourth of July and has started sitting against the occasional left-hander.

Meanwhile, reserve infielder Mike Fontenot is .406 (13-for-32) since the All-Star break. Platoon outfielder Reed Johnson is even hotter, .474 (18-for-38) in the second half.

From MLB.com

I know he's slumping -- but I didn't think Pinella would be bold in sitting Fukudome (who has a 48 million - 4 year deal).

Fukudome looks like a completely different player than what he was in the beginning part of the season (besides his defense). But if Fukudome continues to struggle this month, would you sit him if you were Lou?
