...according to SI.com. This is one rumor I haven't heard before. What do you think? Would it be worth taking from the potential Johnson/Holliday/Bay payroll funds to have insurance on Posey? I'd say no, simply because it would give Bochy a reason to just not play Posey at all.

OT: PS3 price cut

I was hoping to get the opinion of PS3 owners. My wife just got me a Blu-Ray player for my birthday for about $250. With the news of the new PS3 price cut, along with the Mini-me PS3, do you think it would be worth it to return the BR player and trade it in for a PS3 for the extra $50, even if I'm not certain how much I'll be playing it?

It seems like a good idea to me, but I get nervous when I hear stories about lack of sales, the system losing exclusives, and developers complaining about the difficulty of developing for the ps3. Should I be concerned about the quality/amount of games in the long-run? I also wonder if I should be concerned about the durability of the slim PS3.

I know it's been asked before, but I wanted to make sure I didn't miss it...have any decisions been made on the NN fantasy league? It's a few short weeks until the start of the season, and it's about time to get drafting, no? Fooch, are we going to have to end up creating our own yahoo or espn league? Or has all this been decided already? I want to join a league where everyone actually participates! My baseball league has been pretty lame this year.

The Morning After

Sigh.

We've all (or at least most of us) had a night's sleep to mull over yesterday's bombshell. Whether you hated the trade or were "meh" about it (the two seemingly prevailing opinions), what's done is done. When the season is over, we can all hope that Sabean's contract isn't extended, yell about how promising Alderson is and what a bum Sanchez is, yada yada yada.

But today is July 30. There are still two more months of baseball left. The Giants, who most of us hardly gave us a chance to make it to .500, have currently retaken the wild card lead, even after a 3-6 road trip against the powerhouse franchises of Pittsburgh, Colorado, and Atlanta. And like the trades Sabean made or not, two positions of need were upgraded, however moderately it may have been. And for the most part, we probably won't have to see the likes of Burriss, Velez, and Aurilia anymore. Zito is actually pitching well, and we have two legitimate Cy Young candidates. The bullpen is pitching light years better than it has in many years. Not to mention, WE JUST SAW A NO HITTER!

We have all winter and most of spring to throw down hate on the organization. For now, let's enjoy baseball for the few more months we have, because in February we will be wishing we could watch a 10-inning, 1-0 game just to get our baseball fix.

Giants baseball is exciting again, folks! Don't let the hurt of losing Alderson ruin this season for you, and don't let the pessimism that so easily entangles Giants fans drag you down. It's a new day of baseball, with new, better players on the team. Enjoy it!

I was cleaning out the 'ol closet and noticed I have an extra Matt Cain bobblehead we got from a Grizzlies game. Would anyone be interested in it? I was going to put it on ebay but thought I'd let the fellow McCoven have the first shot at it. $20 sound fair? I'd prefer to work it through Paypal if you're interested.

The baby Giants finally made it over to Visalia, so I was able to go to Tuesday and Thursday's games. You all can look at the minor lines for stats/analysis/witty banter, so I won't bore you with that. Just some picture-capitioned goodness.

Here's some shots of the outside of the stadium (and Mrs. UTG). All the brickwork you see is brand new, it just used to be bleachers along this right field line.
