Video: Strong talks FIU

9 months ago Full_charlie_yo_tiny UofL Redbirds 0 comments

5. Louisville: The highlights keep coming in coach Charlie Strong’s first 15 months on the job. A bowl victory and winning season preceded the most impressive National Signing Day performance of any Big East program. Defensive line coach Clint Hurtt’s decision to eschew an Auburn offer and stay with the Cardinals means the recruits will keep coming.

Card Chronicle More Kevin Ware Creepiness and Rumors

First off, forgive me for bringing this up. I feel it's newsworthy regardless how we feel about the situation.

I was listening to Lach tonight and he brought up an interesting situation. Since you're not allowed to sign two letters of intent in one year it shows Ware never signed one with UCF. And word on the street is that he's again opening up his recruitment.

Whether you want him or not doesn't matter, but I'd just like to inform you that we could be in for a lot more creepiness in the next couple weeks.

Here's the story, but I don't expect you to read it.

Card Chronicle What Are You Doing For The Spring Game?

I am extremely excited about the Spring game. I plan on getting up there early and staying all day. I'm curious what the atmosphere's going to be like, though. Where is everybody parking? Last year there was plenty of spots in the stadium lot, but it was also raining and there wasn't as much buzz going on about it. I feel like this year will post a record crowd.

I think festivities at gate 5 open at 3pm, but can we park in the lot prior to then? I was thinking along the lines of getting there at noon, grilling some burgers, throwing some football, checking out my 40-time, getting some sun, and making a day out of it. I'm just going to pray that the rain stays away.

Anyway, give me some ideas on what you're planning on doing.

Card Chronicle Changes to Student Tickets

At the UK game I was disgusted with how many UK fans were in our student section. Apparently the University was as well. They've implemented new rules regarding season tickets including: you must show your student ID to enter the student section.

If you're bored out of your mind and want to read the whole student email UofL sent out, look no further than here

Needless to say, he will be better for them than Krags was for us. He has a much better record at Tulsa. Krags went 29-22 in four years and Graham went 36-17 in four years.

I definitely don't expect fireworks or awesome seasons anywhere in the near future for Pitt.

Here is Graham's Wiki page.

Tune to ESPN. Rockets v Magic. TWill, Clark, and Patterson have been playing and actually not doing too bad. Patterson and Clark have points in some quality minutes.

Card Chronicle 30% of Card Chroniclizers are females? We'll see.

The 30% female CCers statistic is getting to me. How can anybody other than Art Carmody possibly know that? I plan to either prove this right or wrong. I ask you one simple question, do you have a 'twig and berries' or not?

In order to write the necessary number of words required to post, I will write a short poem for Charlie Strong after the jump. I hope he approves.

I don't know how fresh this news is, but Scout has our 2011 class ranked 27th in the nation. Mix that with our top 10 coaching staff in the nation and you get a pretty freakin' awesome football team in a couple years.

Just a little something to offset the basketball woes.

Card Chronicle Bryce Cotton Update

I was sitting on my couch this afternoon thinking what I usually think at 5pm every Sunday, "I wonder what Bryce Cotton's up to". That's when I decided to update you on the future Card Killer. His name will go down with the likes of Pat White and Jeremy Hazell. His name... Bryce Cotton.

Everybody's favorite Friar is 9 games into his freshman season at Providence. He's played every game and averages 15.4 minutes. He only averages 5.3 points, but that's because he hasn't played Louisville yet. I estimate he'll have Kuric-esque performances against us on 1/22/10 and 3/02/10 and go off for 23+. And that's just the amount of steals he'll have. 74 points, 26 rebounds, 0 assists, 23 steals.

Here's his line thus far in the season.

Games Played: 9

Minutes: 15.4

Points: 5.3

Rebounds: 1.3

Assists: 0.8

TO: 0.3

As/TO: 2.33

Steals: 1.2

Blocks: 0

Fouls: 0.7

FG%: 45.5

FT%: 80

3pt%: 15.4 (ouch 2/13)

PPS: 1.45 (What in the world is PPS?)

When Providence blew out Dartmouth, Bryce had a career high in points at 15. Other than that, his stats have been fairly uneventful.

Thankfully, I am now cured from my thirst for Bryce Cotton news... until next Sunday.

Card Chronicle With Regrets

Sadly, today I will miss the UofL basketball game. Some loco-head League Manager decided to schedule my softball tournament game for tonight at 7:30. This will be my first missed game in about 3 years, so I'm kinda down. I felt obligated to do something in honor of the Cardinals tonight since I can't watch, so I made a creation. Perhaps this will bring us the luck we need this year.

Who says we can only use Charlie Strong's picture for Football games?

You have no idea how long that took...

Here is everybody's all time favorite basketball coach, Rick Pitino, on Thursday.

If you don't have 35 minutes to watch, check out the main bullet-points below.

He talks a lot about the new faster pace. The 24 second shot clock. And the team has to get past half-court in 3 seconds.

Rick said Terrence Jennings will be here 4 years. So he jokingly said he's not expected to be here longer than one more year (referencing Samardo).

75%-85% man defense.

"You're really gonna like [the faster play] a lot".

Swop will be back around Dec. 1, hopefully.

There will be more leeway when players make errors this year due to smaller bench. This means Siva won't get yanked every other play.

"This team interacts very well with each other."

Jeremy Hazell is still in college? Holy Moly! How long has he been there?

"We'll force them [opponents] to play this way. They're gonna have to beat us at this style" That means no more game-planning to change to accommodate other teams. They're gonna accommodate to us.

"Our main focus is to make a steal."

The bullet is backing up Siva.

"This is the most 'together' team we've had in a long time."
I've learned to take this comment with a grain of salt over the years.

"I want them to learn the style this [bridge] year so that next year they're veterans at it."

Gorgui Dieng is now a waiting game.

This style of play is difficult on Chris Smith because he likes to dribble a lot. He's very athletic though.

Mike Marra didn't shoot well because he was a freshman. He's "a very good passer". He's going to be like O'Bannon in the sense that he's going to get a lot better each year. He's not going to 'Wow' you immediately.

Preston got a different perspective on life during community service. Preston needs to keep the weight down to be successful.

He's taking a year off from his 'Coaches Show' with Terry.

"I'm probably more fired up than I've ever been."
"I'm out more [recruiting] than any other time in my life"
He says he needs to be out recruiting more because the competition is so much higher. Less on player development due to all the recruiting.

Getting rid of the July period of recruiting evaluation is the most ridiculous thing Rick's ever heard of. Believe this, because Rick never exaggerates.~

See what I did there ^

LISTEN UP:
On recruiting kids with checkered pasts...
"The most important thing is finding the truth. You can't pass judgement without finding the truth." He's passed on kids like that. You've got to look them in the eye and find the truth. He says he's not against giving people second chances, as long as he's sure it doesn't happen again. Go to like 27 minutes to listen to this part.

Rick doesn't like parenting in America today. He criticizes parents for the way they raise kids. He feels like part of his job now is parenting.

"You'll be impressed with how hard [the players] work [this season]."

That's pretty much it. We aren't going to dominate this year, but I guarantee you it will be fun to watch.

Card Chronicle Ryan Taylor?

I was reading some rubbish article that's not worth reading and it reminded me "Include Behanan with previous commitments Wayne Blackshear, ranked 32nd by Rivals, Zach Price (72nd) and Ryan Taylor (103rd)."

Ryan Taylor? We're super pressed for scholarships and we still have an offer out to him? You have to think it will be pulled if we get Miller and/or Bello. I guess you need role players, but why encourage one of our current role-players to transfer or pull a scholly to offer to a frosh? I know nothing about him and I know that star ratings can be extremely misleading, but the only reason I can see we'd offer him is to keep in touch with Lawrence North. I don't know what's going through the coaches minds, but I can't possibly see how this will work out.

I'm just thinking out loud here, and I want you to do the same. Let me know what you think.

Card Chronicle 2010-2011 & 2011-2012 Scholarship Situation (Basketball)

2010 Scholarship Players (Edgar, Jerry, Delk, and Samardo leave 4 scholarships. Picked up by Dieng, Russ Smith, Sallie, and Justice. Brickley Graduates)

Preston Knowles SR
Peyton Siva SO
Rakeem Buckles SO
Kyle Kuric JR
Jared Swopshire JR
George Goode JR (RS)
Terrence Jennings JR
Mike Marra SO
Stephan Van Treese SO
Gorgui Dieng FR
Russell Smith FR
Roburt Sallie SR
Elisha Justice FR

2010 Walk Ons

 Richie Phares SO
Chris Smith JR

2011 Scholarship Players (We gain 2 scholarships from Preston and Sallie and Chris Brickley graduates)

Peyton Siva JR
Rakeem Buckles JR
Elisha Justice SO ?(Switch back to academic scholly)?
Kyle Kuric SR
Jared Swopshire SR
George Goode SR (RS)
Terrence Jennings SR
Mike Marra JR
Stephan Van Treese JR
Gorgui Dieng SO
Russell Smith SO

2011 Walk Ons

Richie Phares JR
Chris Smith SR

(This ^ leaves only 2 scholarships available for our 2011 recruits v )

Wayne Blackshear FR
Zach Price FR
Ryan Taylor FR

(And Pitino is really going strong after Quincy Miller, Deuce Bello, and Chane Behanan)

I say we give a scholly to Blackshear and Price. If Justice is still eligible for an academic scholly, I hope he switches over. That will give us room for one more, Ryan Taylor. If any of the three possible players commit (Miller, Bello, Behanan) then I say we rescind the offer from Ryan Taylor and give it to one of them. In the rare chance all 3 commit, we'll have Ryan Taylor's scholly available, plus I imagine SVT and Goode will transfer. You've also got to consider the chance that Coleman gets his grades up, becomes eligible, and wants back on the team in 2011.

Tell me your thoughts and opinions on this.
