Anybody know what is going on with this guy? He threw 2.2 innings on April 12th for his only start of the year, and hasn't made another appearance since. He is a very interesting prospect. 21 year old 6'8" lefty starter for the Florida Marlins who can hit mid 90's with his fastball.

He had surgery last March and missed all of '07 with a torn labrum. I was hoping he would come back strong this year, but he has only made one start. I am worried that with this injury and his durability concerns, he may never be able to reach his potential. I hope this is not true, and any information would be greatly appreciated...thanks.

Patterson released by Nationals

VIERA, Fla. -- Right-handed pitcher John Patterson was released by the Nationals on Thursday based on the pitcher's lack of performance.

Patterson last pitched on Sunday against the Orioles, a game in which he gave up eight runs. He was 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA in nine innings this spring.

"They told me I didn't blow the doors open and that there were other pitchers pitching better," Patterson said.

Patterson had been in the organization since 2004. His best season was in 2005, when he went 9-7 with a 3.13 ERA in 31 starts.
