Utes Facility Tour

I have been making some highlight videos recently, and after a twitter contest with safetys coach Morgan Scalley on which song best fits Utah football, I won by sending in my video (which is titled as Utah Football We Will Rock U if you haven't seen it and I have some others too).

I was seriously ecstatic when I found out, and I was not disappointed.

As excited as I was to see this state of the art facility, I was really looking forward to getting to talk to Scalley and Shaw.

The Facility - It was still in construction, opens in July, but holy crap! It was absolutely amazing. 150,000 sq feet. Really amazing and a huge boost for recruiting. Players lockers are separated into position in groups and each have a ipod docking station to listen to music in their locker... plus a lot of really cool stuff.

QUESTIONS

RES expansion - Shaw told me they really want it, but that after this $30 million facility that Hill wants them to relax for a second.

Mountain themed unis - Shaw said whit is the only one that knows and that he really doesn't care. I told him my concern about 90s jazz uniforms and he agreed. Also agreed that the topography is very cool, and that he thinks that is the direction they are taking.

D-Line - Shaw said this will be the biggest surprise this fall as Palepoi and others coming in will make it very strong.

Kicking game - Both scalley and Shaw agreed it was an adventure last year and so far is the same this year, but promising players are coming in this fall.

Stacking up to other programs - Shaw said this will be the best facility until Alabama decides they want another one, (quote) "Alabama will not be outdone"

Really cool seeing the facility, and how kind these coaches were. Very kind of these coaches to take the time to grab some fans and take em on a tour during their time for vacations and for recruiting.

Shaw was an absolute crack up, and made it very clear this team is ready to win.

How did Ute Nation do Thursday night USC? Ya we lost, but we played hard and hung in there with one of the most prestigous college football teams. So... what do you think of us now? Were we loud? Did anyone throw beer on you?(youtube max hall hates Utah) What did you think of the Muss? How about the giant drum in between the 3rd and 4th quarter?.. All that stuff.

I went to the USC game in LA last year and I was so impressed of how classy your fan base was. I hope you guys were impressed with Us. If not, just go to Provo and you will think we are wonderful. We hope you had a great time and can't wait to play you next year.

It's gameday Ute nation, so let's get pumped. As hard as it is, believe in the Utes, and come fired up to beat the TDS. It's a red out so for goodness sake wear red you idiots that wear black out jerseys! Let's actually have the stadium some what full for when the players come out, and if you sit near the north endzone then you saw the idiots fighting... On ESPN we can not have a ute fan fighting with a ute fan. First impressions are always the most important, so let's show the world RES's home field advantage that we had back in 08. We need this one Utes, we muss win!

Redemption

I said it in a comment, and I'll say it again. This week is redemption for the Utes. What happened in Logan was bad, really bad. Everyone, including the coaches never showed up. Alright Kenneth Scott probably did thats it. Going into this season we all had such high expectations, some believing this team wasn't just going to compete for the south, but win it. And now, that has all changed after 1 horrible perfomance.

It can change, I know it...

In my opinion, the Utes have 1 chance to get back in it. That one chance is a home, night game on ESPN against a hated rival.

Utes lose this game, I dont see them winning in Tempe, the devils are looking hot this year. USC? No way you beat USC after losing 3 straight. Then you go to UCLA and OSU, teams that recently knocked off top 20 BIG 10 teams. You thought the 2010 TCU massacre was a down ward spiral, that was atleast late in the season.

Now a win, thats big. You win this game, you are right back in it. You take momentum into the Pac 12 games. This is the perfect time for the D line to show they are one of the best in the nation. A time for Brian Johnson to show that he can be an offensive coordinator. A time for the O line to prove they arent absoulute dog $hi+. A time for the receivers to show their skill. A time for the wolfman to howl. A time to prove we belong. A time of redpemtion.

When was the last time ESPN was in RES? 2004? This is the real coming out party for Ute nation. A coming out party for the Muss on ESPN. To show we will not just roll over after a horrible perfomance. This is redemption for the Utes, a second chance to prove ourselves on ESPN. What's gonna happen Ute Nation, do we come out with a chip on our shoulder pissed off and fired up, or we do look worse than friday? All we can do is believe. Have faith in the coaches when it is hard to, and believe in the players when they need it the most.

Utes need this win, badly. I sure hope the leadership on this team shows, and they come to play, no, they come prepared to dominate, because this may be the only shot we got. (cue "lose yourself" by eminem)

I just can't take it anymore. We are a little over 24 hours from the season, and I just can't handle it I am so excited. It is like how the coldest part of the day is right before the sun comes up (I think that's true), well it's kinda like that. I can't focus right now even! Blackout Uniform Slighlty Changed...

I understand only I would catch this, but I was looking on the Utes Football merchandise and found they have two different black out uniforms. One with the topography being red (last years) and the other being gray. The gray is only with the #15 jersey so I'm not sure if it was a mistake or what. Either way it looks alright, but I think the red pops out more. You can tell I am desperate for football when I need to post about the color on a jersey...

What If... Colorado...

I understand that recently someone did a "what if" post, but lately I have been thinking of a different scenario, the Colorado game. WARNING, this post may make you feel nauseous, angry, depressed, or simply "I want to bash my head into the wall" feeling, even though it is not meant to.

I don't need/want to go into great detail of what happened that awful day after Thanksgiving, so all I will say is that Colorado came into our place and beat us... They did the unthinkable, and beat us. The Utes had several chances to win the game, but couldn't do it.

Coleman Peterson's 3 missed field goals may be the biggest one remembered, so what if Coleman makes one of those? Do we win in OT, or gain momentum and blow out the buffs?

First possesion the D stops the Buffs on 3rd down, and Mo Lee gets called for some "after the play" penalty, completley uncalled for. Buffs pick up an automatic first down, go on for a touchdown. So, what if Mo Lee keeps his hands to himself and the Buffs don't get 7 points? I don't need to remind you the Utes only lost by 3

There were many more blown opportunity’s the Utes had, and I don't want to blame the loss on one or two players, but still, what if? This post isn't mainly aimed towards the CU debacle, but what would have happened after it...

Say Mo Lee doesn't get called for a penalty, or JWIV doesn't get injured, or even Coleman makes a field goal and the Utes win, then what? Do we go to Autzen, upset the ducks, play for Roses and beat Wisconsin? I wish, but probably not. I believe our defense would play pretty well, but we still lose by a couple of scores. So, what next? We go to San Antonio, shut down the Heisman, and walk out with a W... Probably not, I see the Utes keeping it close, but do you see the Utes winning that game? I believe they would keep it close, but still come up a few point short...

Now what? We make it to the PAC 12 championship... Lose, play the heisman in a decent bowl.. Lose... What I'm really trying to get to, is that would we be better off beating a pretty good GT team in OT, or beating Colorado and losing our last 2?

I understand I probably sound like a horrible fan, but I'm just thinking about which would give us a better boost into next season. I'm not saying I don't have confidence in my team (heck I'm already having dreams about rushing the field on Oct. 4) to win those 2 big games and I'm not saying I would want Utah to lose against Colorado, I'm just thinking things out because I have nothing better to do except watch every highlight video out there and win 30 NC's on NCAA football 13.

That loss however, the Utes learned something greatly. You can and will be upset in this league if you do not come to play. I don't think the Utes were entirely unprepared, but you could tell from the start that they were playing like they just got back from camping out in front of Best Buy for cheap TV's and crap. I knew this day would come, I didn't think it would be this game, but I knew that eventually we were going to be upset. I think this could help the Utes in remembering the consequences of not showing up to play for every down, which could really be an advantage in the future.

This is my first real big post, so go easy on me, but would you think... " Would the Utes be better off beating a pretty good GT team in OT, or beating Colorado and losing our last 2 when are you looking at momentum for next season?"

Does anyone know what happened to the Hawk that was supposed to fly in during the pregame? I still think it would be a pretty sweet tradition to start. I'm sure we would get plenty of criticism from zoobs for "stealing" ideas from Auburn or something about our names being Utes not Hawks, but I think it would be a great way to welcome in the Pac 12 teams to RES. If you know anything go ahead and comment!
