Coach Wade's Status After this Season

Let me preface this by saying that I was not a big fan of the hiring of Wade Philips in the first place. Though I do have to say his laid back personality may have been the best thing for the team after Parcell's iron-fisted rule. He's a great defensive mind, but he seems more like the Campo/Switzer type coach than the Jimmy Johnson/Tom Landry kind of guy who inspires confidence from the fans and the players.

My view now is that Wade just might be gone after this season regardless of whether he wins or loses in the playoffs this year. Wade's for sure gone if we miss the playoffs, and the odds are good that he'll be gone if we have another first round loss.

If we have success, other teams are going to come calling for Garrett. I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather push Wade out the door to keep Garrett, especially when you consider that Wade may only be coaching for another couple of years. I believe Wade's contract is up after this year anyway (with an option for a third year), so maybe we just don't renew. I'm just curious as to what everyone else thinks about this.

They list Darrell Robertson as one of the two DEs that should have been drafted. Adarius Bowman is listed, but I think he will be drafted by the prison league. Marcus Griffin also shows up at safety. Anyone know any of these other guys. I remember seeing a Jamie Silva piece on NFL Network. What about that tackle, Eric Foster, from Rutgers? Are we going to pick up a defensive tackle in FA?

Jonathan Stewart vs. Felix Jones

Okay, I need help understanding this. Why is it that when Jonathan Stewart is ranked higher on most expert's draft boards, has carried the load as the full time starter on his team, is 30 pounds heavier than Felix Jone And runs just as fast as he does that everyone has us picking Felix Jones over him when they are both available at 22 in most of the mock drafts that I've seen?

I understand the whole turf toe injury, but he is supposed to be fully healed by training camp. He also ran a 4.47 at the combine when the toe was still hurt. Jones ran a 4.46.

To me it makes more sense to go with a potential starter for several reasons. One, he has shown that he's tough by playing through injuries. Two, he's shown he can carry the full time running back load. Three, this will give us a backup plan in case Barber does not come to reality and realize that he's not getting LT-type money. Don't get me wrong, Barber is good, but if we can get someone who might be able to fill in as a replacement starter in his place, that will free up money to sign Hamlin, Newman, TO, Ware, and probably some others that I am not thinking of at the moment. I was just wondering if I was missing a major reason all the experts are on the Felix Jones bandwagon rather than Jonathan Stewart's.

Top 20 Possible Cowboys Picks (For Rds 1-2)

I thought it might be interesting to see how everyone's opinions varied on a top 20 list of our three biggest needs for our First and Second Round picks. I came up with the following list based on the following criteria:

Realistic expectation that players will be available between picks 22 and 61.

Based on biggest areas of need (CB, RB, WR).

Ranked in order of who you would pick first if all these players were available at pick 22.

I also tacked on 2 sleeper picks that we might want to look at in the later rounds if we don't address that position with our first three picks.

Here is my list -

DRC (CB)(Not probable, but I can dream)

Jonathan Stewart (RB)

Devin Thomas (WR)

Limas Sweed (WR)

Felix Jones (RB)

Antoine Cason (CB)*

Aquib Talib (CB)

James Hardy (WR)

Chris Johnson (RB)

Eddie Royal (WR)

Kevin Smith (RB)

Brandon Flowers (CB)

Patrick Lee (WR)

Jordy Nelson (WR)

DeSean Jackson (WR)

William Franklin (WR)

Tashard Choice (RB)

Marcus Monk (WR)

Justin King (CB)

Early Doucet (WR)

Sleeper Picks:

Darrell Terrell (CB)

Pierre Garcon (WR)

*I've posted earlier how I preferred Talib over Cason. After watching some clips and listening to people who know more about football than me (of which there are many), I've determined that I was way wrong and that Cason should be ranked higher.

Flozell Not Returning?

Forgive me if the title of this may have scared any of you, but I have been wondering about whether the Zach Tomas signing is a tip off that the Cowboys have already decided against re-signing Flozell.

Friday, I read an article by Nick Eatman here.

In it, he talks about how the team really only has enough money to sign Barber, Hamlin, Canty and Adams. The remaining cap space will go to sign the rookies and possibly one or two low cost signings of need.

I don't see Thomas as a need on this team. While he is a great player, his size and his age really make this more of a luxury rather than a need. As has been pointed out by many of you, our needs are CB, WR, RB (in no particular order).

I'm not salary cap expert, so someone please set me strait if I'm wrong, but I'm just wondering if this signing indicates that the Jerry has already made up his mind that Flozell is not coming back. Why else would you sign Thomas to a 2-3 million dollar deal when you have so many other positions of need and so little money left to do it after re-signing our free agents?
