Strike Out Violence Day
Heh.
Just noticed that SOVD is (of all things) against the Dodgers. (Of course, I remember the old days at the 'Stick when fans would fight in the left field bleachers, the SFPD would come out, sticks going. The combatants would be dragged up the stairs and into the little substation behind the scoreboard. Then you'd see the fans a couple of innings later, walking out very subdued).
Let me say for the record that I propose that Rihanna sing the national anthem.
....then have Chris Brown come out of the Dodger dugout with a bat and chase her off the field.
A New Gig for BB?
Kudos to the Storm for this release. Nice!

Storm Offer Job to All-Time Home Run King
Lake Elsinore, CA, March 19, 2008 – The Lake Elsinore Storm have officially offered employment to Barry Lamar Bonds. The former San Francisco Giants left fielder has been searching far and wide this off-season for a new team culminating in an investigation by the players union into the lack of interest in Major League Baseball’s Home Run King. The Storm offer includes a cushy Media Relations position (with slight pay cut from $19.3 million), full use of baseball facilities and of course expanded cubicle space with barcalounger and plasma TV. “We just think the way he has handled the media with such grace over the years that he would be a perfect fit in our media relations department,” said Chris Jones, Storm General Manager.
Bonds is currently residing in his Bel Air estate and training in Los Angeles a short drive from The Diamond in Lake Elsinore. With a newly renovated Diamond Club Restaurant and a permanent parking space already reserved for ESPN “reporter” Pedro Gomez, the Storm offer a perfect location for a press conference to re-launch his big league career.
Lake Elsinore also has a brand new playing surface with evapotransporation technology which Barry will have full use of as well. “He’s in playing shape right now. He just hasn’t hit off live pitching,” Bonds’ agent, Jeff Borris, said Tuesday. “I’ve had conversations with Barry. It would probably take him about two weeks to get ready.” Lake Elsinore has a 27 person front office, plenty of arms for two weeks of live batting practice.

OT: We still don't have the worst uniforms----or team name

Oy.
From another article: "Rays" was the owner's first choice, but the organization considered others like Cannons, Stars, Wave and Dukes before settling on Rays and developing a logo featuring a bright yellow sunburst.
Holy cow. I'm starting to think that maybe the rainbow Astros jerseys and the White Sox softball-team look of the late 70's-early 80's weren't so bad.

Excellent article about the nature of the problems facing the NFL. Definitely thought-provoking.

In Milwaukee, it's the sausage race.
In DC, it's the Dead Presidents' race.
During the All-Star festivities, there was the mascot race.
So...do we have an LBGT race? Just asking...

You know, in a way, I feel really bad for this kid. Normally, I wouldn't even think twice about him, but I recall seeing him at the press conference after giving up 756 and saw that he's a very engaging and articulate young guy who seemed to have a really good attitude about his place in history. He could have just said, "To hell with the press," and walked off, but he stepped up and faced the cameras with a smile.
I can definitely see him doing broadcasting after his career, and I hope he does well in the rest of his time on the mound. Of course, pitching for the Nats, that's probably not going to happen, but hey, like I said, he's got a realistic point-of-view and he doesn't come off as some spoiled brat.
Game Notes
Small, but annoying thing happened to me. I, like many others, like to read the game notes that you can get off of the Giants website or MLB.com. I like to have them with me for reference when going to games. The problem is that I have to leave for games three hours ahead (I live out in the San Joaquin Valley and take BART and Muni to SF), and they get sent out after I leave for the park.
I called the Giants media office to see if they're available at the park, and I was told that they are not, and they don't plan to make them available. In short, I was out of luck. However, I was told that if there was enough demand, they would make them available (I told them I'd even pay a few bucks for a copy).
Soooo....could I ask a favor and if any of you would like the game notes available, could you contact the media office and let them know you would like them (or if someone knows someone in the Giants organization), could you bend their ear in the name of fellow fans? Many thanks.
OT: The Police
The reason I'm posting this is to make a public apology. A few months ago people were asking if the Police were to tour, would they sell out Pac Bell. I replied no, saying that they would be lucky to sell 30k.
Well....I went to the Mausoleum to see the Police last night...with the FIFTY thousand other fans. So, I was wrong. Apology made. My bad.
I'd like to be wrong again by saying Pink Floyd won't tour again. And if I should be wrong, hopefully I can get the day off!
Kruk on YouTube
Under "Baseball Fights," of all things. He is shown in his Cubs days tagging Dave Winfield and doing a nice side-step to avoid the confrontation. Here it is:

How About A-Rod?
Noticed this little part about A-Rod and our fave team on the Fox Sports website: the article is good reading and food for thought (I personally say "why not?").
The entire article can be found at http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6443836?MSNHPHCP>1=9131

Giants: Sign Rodriguez, and their concerns about replacing Barry Bonds would be solved. Rodriguez would boost attendance with his pursuit of the all-time, home-run mark. And to think, no one would be trying to indict him!
For all the criticisms of Rodriguez, he's the anti-Bonds, from his squeaky-clean image to his too-eager-to-please personality. He might not enjoy hitting at AT&T Park, but the park has played more neutral in recent seasons and generally is tougher on left-handed batters.
The Giants' current third baseman, Pedro Feliz, owns a .288 career on-base percentage.
Rodriguez's is .386.
Where to get names embroidered?
One of my friends bought a used Wotus jersey at the Fan Fest. Being that we suffered mightily at the hands of the Pride of the Left Side, Mr. Johnnie Lee LeMaster, we were wondering where he could get his jersey "modified" to have LeMaster on the back.
(BTW, it was a home jersey, and we noted that the numbers for home jerseys are a little higher since there are no names, but hey, you can't always get what you want, so said Mick Jagger).
And, yes, we did consider "Boo."
Many thanks.
