It makes me sick to my stomach to think that the Chargers could make the playoffs based on a stupid personnel decision by the Chiefs. When your division rival has no left tackle and you're going to dump a former pro bowler at that position, you should probably think twice.

Why is Jeff Fisher such a big name for a possible head coach? The dude only had 6 winning seasons in 17 years with the Titans. No thanks.

Compare that to Bill Cowher who had 11 winning seasons in 16 years with the Steelers or Andy Reid who had 9 winning seasons out of 13 years with the Eagles.

Chiefs have a very realistic chance at winning the AFC West.

We have to beat Denver and Oakland, and we have to beat either the Jets or Packers.

Denver needs to go 1-2 against a tough schedule: Chicago, New England, and Buffalo.
Oakland needs to go 1-2 against a tough schedule: Green Bay, Detroit, and San Diego.

Everyone would end 8-8, but Chiefs would have tiebreakers if they won both division games. Go Chiefs!

I agree that we should stick with Palko as the starter. He's completed 66% of his passes in his first two games starting. There's something there. He also has good confidence and doesn't have a neck beard. I don't know how you can expect him to not throw some interceptions against Pittsburgh and New England during primetime games. I'm okay with Palko finishing out the season if that's what we have to do. I want to see what's there.

Kyle Orton was released from the Denver Broncos who are now better without him. I can't see him catching on here.

Wait... Denver and Oakland lost? Does nobody want to win this division?

Wait... Is Denver back in the playoff race now?

A win on Monday night would put the Chiefs in sole possession of first place in the AFC West after tiebreakers.

Go Chiefs!

By looking at Twitter, does it seem to anyone else that the Chiefs are the only team interested in Aubrayo Franklin? Every Franklin tweet is about how fans hope the Chiefs sign him. Perhaps Pioli has offered him a fair contract and he's just waiting to see if anyone else tops it before he agrees.

@MaioccoCSN: 49ers are focusing on re-signing DE Ray McDonald and are prepared to lose NT Aubrayo Franklin and OLB Manny Lawson.

@mattbarrows: Redskins reportedly agree to terms on DT Barry Cofield. They were expected to be Aubrayo Franklin's most ardent suitor.

Sounds like good news to me.

This is an article from Canal Street Chronicles in March, but I wanted to revisit it with free agency potentially starting this week. It talks about how Shaun Rogers, who we lost in a FA battle to New Orleans, and how he may not be an upgrade over their current DT, Remi Ayodele, who is set to become a free agent.

While he won't make a huge splash in free agency, he seems like the kind of guy the Chiefs could look into. He's young (28) and has improved over the last couple years as he's seen increased playing time. I'd like to see him get a contract just to see what kind of competition he creates in training camp.

Bucky Brooks says Aubrayo Franklin is an ideal fit for the Chiefs. There's been more and more debate on this recently. What are your thoughts?

Is Scott Pioli willing to trade Tamba Hali?

I'm starting to think trading Tamba could be a step in the right direction for the Chiefs. He's not really an all-around jack-of-all-trades OLB, not one that's worth breaking bank on just for his superior sack numbers. Is Tamba Hali an important piece to our Super Bowl run? I'm not completely convinced.

I'm not sure Pioli is either. Look at the attention paid to OLB: Cameron Sheffield, Justin Houston, and Gabe Miller were all drafted within the last two offseasons, not to mention the extension signed by Andy Studebaker last season.

Take a look at this scouting report on Justin Houston. He could be just as good as Hali by the time the Chiefs are making their Super Bowl run next year.

Could we line up Houston opposite Studebaker with Sheffield rotating in and be set?

Of course, it depends on if the price is right. If a second round pick is offered for Hali, I say pull the trigger. Otherwise, we may watch him walk next year and receive nothing more than a 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick in return.

In case the NFL season starts late...

It may interest you to know that Derrick Thomas's son, Derrion Thomas, will be playing for Mizzou starting this year. So go buy those Mizzou jerseys and see some games at Faurot Field. The tailgating here is fantastic. M-I-Z!

Awesome video about Eric Berry on NFL.com. I think it may have been overlooked with all the draft talk. This video makes me proud that I bought my Berry jersey last year.

This is an article Joel wrote in 2007 that I came across tonight about how Tony G is way better than Shannon Sharpe. I found it interesting to see that he slammed Shannon Sharpe for being disloyal and leaving the Broncos to go to a Super Bowl contender. Crazy how things change. It's also cool to see how Joel's writing has progressed over the last three years. I kind of like the in-your-face-ness of it, personally.

Something I noticed about Cincinatti:

They lost by a touchdown or less to Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, and New Orleans. All those teams are playoff contenders. They also beat Baltimore, another playoff-bound team.

Maybe a little luck will fall their way and they will take care of San Diego for us next week.

Tamba Hali is on pace to get 16 sacks this season.

Not too shabby.

I find it interesting that after 4 weeks, Jason Babin has 3.5 sacks and Turk McBride has 2 sacks. One team's trash is another team's treasure, I suppose.

On the flip side, Jared Allen only has one sack. That trade brought us Branden Albert and Jamaal Charles. I think we came out ahead, considering how well Hali has been doing.

Do we really need Romeo Crennel? KC's defense wasn't good at all this year, but we also are lacking personnel. I honestly kinda like Clancy Pendergast's philosophy of giving opposing offenses lots of different looks. Plus I'd almost rather develop a young guy like Pendergast than bring in a veteran DC. Kansas City is not very well known for developing coaches, save Bill Cowher. I don't know about Crennel.

This, of course, is just until Crennel gets hired... then I will be ecstatic. But I want to soften the blow for myself if he doesn't come to KC. I like Pendergast.

Arrowhead Pride A Realistic Goal

Now that the "first quarter of the season" is over, as Todd Haley calls it, I was thinking about what we can realistically expect from the Chiefs to feel confident about us getting better. Playing into this whole "quarter of the season" thing, the goal really should be to win an extra game each quarter. Looking at our schedule, I think this is realistic. Here's how I see it:

First quarter: 0-4, No wins.

Second quarter: 1-3, with a win against Washington.

Third quarter: 2-2, with wins against Oakland and Denver.

Fourth quarter: 3-1, with wins against Buffalo, Cleveland, and Denver (I really just hate Denver).

If we finished the last half of our season 5-3, I'd feel pretty damn good about the Chiefs going into the offseason. Final record of 6-10. Is that realistic? What's your expectations?
