When will Nate surpass .500 with the Blazers? (Poll)
In honor of Nate's new contract, and given our incredible sweep against FLA has Nate within 4 wins of .500, I am reprising my earlier post (http://www.blazersedge.com/2010/8/25/1651419/when-will-nate-be-a-500-coach-with) to
check the pulse of Blazer Nation again...
In August, when first run, 60% of you thought he'd already have done it. 14% pegged 3/20 vs. the Fakers - that'd still be possible, and oh so sweet... 13% said by the EOY, 5% next yr, 6% never...
I predict that next year will have a higher percentage, and never a lower percentage, given his new 2-yr deal...
Your thoughts?
Blazers can now go with a traditional point guard… and coach…
A thought came to me while watching the Blazers get staked by Philly - Brandon's recent revelations may mean much bigger changes than most have anticipated...

Blazers Championship Core Redux
I can't stay down too long, I have to ignore the travesty of 2 of the Blazers Big 3 now being huge question marks instead of key championship core components, and instead focus on what we DO still have. Success = Titles. Not 50 wins. Not a first round win. A championship. I still think we have some assets that can get us there. I'm not really interested in any deals or decisions that don't move us concretely toward that ultimate goal. Your criteria may vary.
After the Jump, I've tried to post in a Word table wherein I look at the Salary, length of contract, PER (all from the Trade Machine), and a bogus but instructive ''value" column I made up (PER minus Salary, in millions). Based on age, contract length, value and skill level, I analyzed who on the roster today could be a part of a chamionship. And, by process of elimination, who should be available for deals. I think it paints a fairly positive picture.

Blazers Championship Fit/Gap Analysis
I’ve been fortunate to witness multiple championship teams in my life, and I've seen a lot of Championship Traits my teams have had in common. In this post I take a look at seven critical success factors to winning an NBA championship, and how I see the Blazers along those dimensions, after the jump...

Negative guys are Blazers Fans Too!
I continue to see posts in which those who criticize any aspect of the team are castigated, and deemed to be less of a fan, than those fans who praise the team. In fact, some go so far as to claim such discussion hurts the Blazers, and is not what a good fan does. I’d like to try to refute those perceptions after the jump...

OT: Great Time to be a Sports Fan (in the Great NW!)
Now that we've finally lost a game, I wanted to give a shout out to the Great Northwest and the Year Two Thousand and Ten, for being a fine place to be (in the world of sports)!
Nate Unveils: Ten Set Plays...
Nate has come down from the mountaintop with 15 <crash> I mean 10... Ten Set Plays...

Post 2012 NBA: Ideas?
If they decertify, and we have a brand new league, two4larue said we should just throw out the record books, because it won't be the NBA... which got me thinking…
OK, what could we do to make the NBA more entertaining?
Immediately, the following came to mind: Change the court, stop shooting foul shots, expand (by 2 teams), realign leagues to the NFL (8 divisions of 4 teams each, with byes and a wildcard weekend), copy things that work (NFL style plus "Final Four" tourneys every weekend...)
Read on for the visionary thoughts of a radical reconstructionist rabble rouser...

My bet: Rudy will have more points than Roy (poll)
I made a $20 bet with a good buddy of mine that Rudy will have more professional career basketball points, from this point forward, than Brandon Roy. He took my bet without hesitation... at first... What's your vote?
When Will Nate be a .500 coach? (With Poll)
No, this isn't a bash Nate post...
If records I found on the net are correct, Nate’s career coaching record with the Portland Trail Blazers stands at 198-212, 14 games below .500. My question to you is this: when will Nate’s career regular season record with the Blazers be above (not at) .500?
Fabulous prizes awarded for the correct answer and best reason why (I'll at least by you a sody pop...)
Transcript of the Secret Penn / KP Vulcan Tape
I’ve just come across some secret Vulcan videotape of the tumultuous meeting that led to the dismissal of Penn and the eventual dismissal of KP… I haven’t figured out how to upload video yet , so in the mean time I thought I’d transcribe it for you instead…

Nate: Loosen Up, Sarge!
While watching other teams play this week, I came to some conclusions that enable me, a fairly rabid Nate hater, to suggest a two-word adjustment for Nate that might win me over.
In my view, for the Blazers to reach a championship level contender (and assuming for now that Nate remains our coach) Nate needs to Improve in the following areas:
- Offensive scheme. His is pitiful. Way too predictable and way too easy to shut down.
- Defensive scheme. Too predictable, too much switching. Everybody is not buying in.
- Delegating. He can’t do all the jobs required of a head coach effectively by himself. Get help.
- Get more out of your players. Utilize their strengths more effectively.
I think that Nate can potentially fix all of the above if he will, in short: Loosen Up.
Loosen up, Nate! Have fun, listen to your gut, play for the 100 game season. Let these kids mature.
Please bear with me while I explain after the jump...

Most Urgent Offseason Move?
OK, so another one bites the dust. What is the one thing we need to do this offseason to get to the WCF?
He-e-y-y!! Quit Whining, and Finish!
I love our Blazers, but last night, I don’t know if the TNT mikes are better than Blazer Broadcasting, or what, but I could not believe how many times, in the first quarter alone, I heard a Blazer bitchin and moanin about a call.
The Fave Blazer play now seems to be: drive the lane, initiate contact, yell “Hey”, miss shot, glare at ref…

Almost forgot!
Before the Cavs game, I stumbled across Canzano. I actually liked one bit he did blaming KP for the Dre Affair, told him so, and he said, "yeah thanks, you know KP just came by and said - so you're blaming me, huh?"
Nate’s Famous FBP
While watching Roy feed Dre great a textbook ‘Flaming Bag Pass’ down big to Utah in the 1st, I realized:
(a) That’s why Roy loves Trout, because he can hit the ‘flaming bag’ shot
(b) That’s why Roy loves Blake, because he can hit the ‘flaming bag’ shot, and
(c) The big realization:

When Will Nate be better than a .500 coach?
No, this is not a "bash Nate" topic. Nate's Blazer coaching record before tonight's game stood at 148 wins and 180 losses. (.451). To reach 500, he has to get to 32 games above .500. I believe that an end of season record of 57-25 would put Nate precisely at .500. So my question to you is:
Buyers/Sellers in 2010, Trading Partners
OK, I know I'm jumping the gun, and at the same time this woudl have been better timed a month ago, but I'm wondering if those in the know could identify the buyers in the free agent market of 2010.
I also could use some illumination on cap impacts of guys with expiring contracts, such as Travis and Blake. If these expiring contracts are valuable to other teams, aren't they also valuable to us?
