CelticsBlog Derrick Williams

Derrick Williams seems like he will be the very best player to come out of this draft.  He would be an excellent addition to the Celtics.  He could learn behind Garnett and add some much needed size to their roster.  Quality size, not a stiff.

Do you think he would be a good addition / good fit for the Celtics?  Any ideas what the Celtics would need to do in order to get him?  Please share your thoughts and suggestions in the comments below.

CelticsBlog Sign Ray for $18M for one year

Why pay so much for Ray?

1.  It would get him to stay (nobody else would pay him that much).

2. It's not my money :)

3. Danny could then use that expiring contract at the trading deadline to get a whole lot of help for the playoff push.

4.  It would be good for Ray, and good for the Celtics.

I wanted them to consider trading Ray at the deadline last year because his contract was so valuable.  However, he is such a class guy and helped at times during the playoff run, I was glad Danny kept him.  But... with no ability to get a high quality player due to salary cap restrictions, this could be the way to do it (unless there is something in the CBA about signing only a one year extension).

Any thoughts?

CelticsBlog Who REALLY needs an expiring contract?

The Celtics can get the best value in return for Ray Allen from a team that REALLY needs to free up cap space.  There are two categories of teams that want to create cap space: (1) Those teams which are in financial trouble and want to unload bad contracts, and (2) Those teams who can really improve themselves this summer by landing one of the premium free agents.

CelticsBlog Will TA flourish while PP is injured?

Sadly, Paul Pierce is injured.  The upside is it gives Tony Allen a chance for some meaningful minutes in PP's absence.  Prior to TA's devastating knee injury a few years ago, he was having a terrific 10-12 game tear.  This may allow TA the chance he needs to shine.  It may also allow the Celtics to showcase him.  Could this all work together nicely to enhance his trade value?  What do you predict?

Poll
How will TA fare in PP's absence?
A. He will return to his previous best (or better), allowing the C's to trade him for a frontline player.

B. He will play efficiently as a role player.

C. He will be average - some good, some bad.

D. He will have numerous brain cramps and turnovers.

F. He will drive the team bus recklessly into traffic, causing multiple injuries for all the remaining healthy players.

CelticsBlog Andre Miller, anyone?

It seems every time I see Andre Miller play, I am impressed that he plays the point very well.  He does a good job distributing the ball, and handles it very well.  For a team like the Celtics, who really only had one true point guard (Rondo) all of last year, it seems like Miller would be terrific back-up.

How do you all feel about pursuing Miller with the LLE?  I look forward to seeing your responses.

CelticsBlog Will Sam ever see the floor or become a coach this season?

Sam Cassell seems to be providing Danny Ainge with some roster flexibility as well as some unofficial coaching.  I suspect that unofficial coaching may become official by the trade deadline, thus allowing Danny the flexibility to sign a free agent and make a trade.
