Well it's headed to the bottom of two and somebody had to do it.  For the record I blame Benitez for the lead off jack by Soriano.

Armando

Is it time to let him go?

I know he is on the books for next season no matter what and we have no real candidate to replace him (before of after the Accardo trade), but when is the appropriate time to cut your losses.  Sabean will probably not be willing to cut him as it would mean admitting he made a mistake, although last year's injury offers him a partial excuse.

I just don't see Benitez improving.  The guy is 13/19 in save situations and has a WHIP of 1.538, coming into todays catastrophe.  16 walks in 27 1/3!  His teammates don't seem to care for him and us fans have seen enough.  At least with one of the kids (Sanchez, Wilson, or whoever) there is hope for improvement.

Thoughts?

Padres deal Eaton, Lofton officially a Bum

Just read on rotoworld the Padres dealt Eaton, Otsuka, and a prospect to the Rangers for Chris Young, Adrian Gonzalez, and Tremell(sp) Sledge.  Also Lofton has continued his quest to play for every major league baseball team by signing with the (f&%#$@s) runnning his total to nine teams.  The bums are his seventh team since 2001.

I think this is likely to be a good trade for the Padres as they were able to sell high on Eaton and Aki.  Young is a good looking pitcher and Gonzalez fills a gaping hole at third base.  That being said that pitching staff is not looking so good for 2006.  The rotation is Peavy, Young, and not much else and the bullpen will surely be affected by the loss of Otsuka and Seanez.  Opinions?
