Posting and Toasting Top 15 Centers

Sorry for the wait, I've been a bit busy. This is a tough list to make too, because centers are considered better than others for different reasons. Of all the lists, this one is more opinion-based because everybody has different opinions of what they wants centers to do. Here we go!

Posting and Toasting Top 15 Power Forwards

Before I get into this, I just gotta say, this list is extremely difficult to make. There's a plethora of great NBA PFs, many of whom are pretty unique players and special in their own right. Also, PF is a bit of a tricky position because some guys swing between SF and PF, while other guys who are PFs play many minutes at C.

In short, if I rank someone too low or high, or someone you consider more of a SF or C, don't send death threats to my house please!

Posting and Toasting Top 15 Shooting Guards in the NBA

Part 2 of my series of lists I'm doing. i've been working nights lately, so I've had entirely too much time during the day to meander around the Internets, and thus spend a lot of time on P&T. So yeah, shooting guards.

*Note: Some of these players also play SF, and I recognize that, but I'm putting them as SGs because they primarily play at the 2

Posting and Toasting Top 15 Point Guards in the NBA

There isn't shit to do or really talk about in the NBA, and Posting and Toasting has been fairly quiet for awhile. So, like many other basketball websites do during the summer, I thought I'd make a Top 15 for each position. With 30 teams in the league, I figured 15 is a good number to represent the top half. Hopefully these lists piss off some people and spark some debate and get some good discussions going.

First up: Point Guards.

Posting and Toasting Keith Benson

Obviously there are a ton of question marks heading into this draft, and as of right now the Knicks only hold pick #17. However, based on some of their workouts, it seems as though they will likely try to buy a late 1st round or 2nd round pick. This is all speculation folks, but should they draft a big, I'd like to submit my vote for Keith Benson out of Oakland University.

Posting and Toasting Moments and Memories of the 2010-11 Season

This was a long, wild season for our Knicks. It practically started in July and just ended Sunday. There were moments we all loved, moments we all hated, and moments, plenty of them, that left us divided. Nonetheless, it was easily the best season of the past decade, and so this post is to comment and discuss some of our favorite moments of the season. With some videos too!

Posting and Toasting Playoff Predictions!

What's up everybody! Playoffs officially start today, so I thought, why not make a post where we can all make our predictions! This isn't 100% Knicks related, but I know we all love speculating and predicting, so let's do it.

EAST

(1) Chicago Bulls vs. (8) Indiana Pacers

Bulls in 4. The Pacers are a talented, semi-deep team, but even on their own floor, I can't see them taking a win. Furthermore, they're not experienced, and the Bulls are absolutely taking care of business right now.

(2) Miami Heat vs. (7) Philadephia 76ers

Heat in 5. As much as I'd love to see an upset here, the 76ers don't match up well, and even their best positions (SG, SF, PF) all match up worse than what the Heat offer at those positions. However, I can definitely see Philly stealing a game, or maybe even two. But at the end of the day, the Heat are just too good.

(3) Boston Celtics vs. (6) New York Knicks

This is the toughest one to write as a die-hard Knicks fan, but I'm trying to give honest predictions. Celtics in 6. The Celtics are limping and are vulnerable, but I just can't see the Knicks knocking them off. Seth on TKB TV made a good point last night, that if it comes down to game 6 in the Garden, the Knicks could send it back to Boston. However, I think if the Celts are on the verge of the knockout, they can win in New York, because they've done it twice this year in front of playoff-like crowds.

(4) Orlando Magic vs. (5) Atlanta Hawks

Magic in 6. Perhaps no team has limped into the playoffs worse than the Hawks. They got decimated by Orlando last year in the semi's, but won the season series this year. I still think the Magic are a very good, dangerous team. Jameer Nelson steps up his game in the playoffs, and I think the Magic's backcourt of Jason Richardson and JJ Reddick will too. Dwight Howard is almost always dominant.

WEST

(1) San Antonio Spurs vs. (8) Memphis Grizzlies

Spurs in 7. This might surprise some of ya'll, but I see this series as a barn-burner. Memphis and San Antonio split the season series. Memphis has nothing to lose. The Spurs, namely Manu Ginobili, are limping a little bit. I don't like to call the Spurs old, because they really aren't that old, save for Tim Duncan, but the Grizlies are a young, fast team with an energetic frontline. I can see Mike Conley and Tony Allen in the backcourt and Dorrell Arthur, Z-Bo and Marc Gasol in the front giving the Spurs fits. However, the Spurs' experience and just better overall talent takes the series.

(2) Los Angeles Lakers vs. (7) New Orleans Hornets

Lakers in 5. I was going to call this a sweep, but the Lakers too are limping a bit, and Chris Paul's advantage over anything the Lakers offer at the PG position might be enough to steal a game. Trevor Ariza might have a big series to show up his old team, but without David West, the Hornets really won't make this competitive.

(3) Dallas Mavericks vs. (6) Portland Trail Blazers

Mavericks in 6. I know Dallas has become every team's preferred playoff opponent, because they've flopped numerous times in the past several years, but I still think this team is dangerous. They've got solid depth at every position. The Blazers will make this one competitive, no doubt, but in the end I think the Mavs are too good. If they win this series and can get some confidence flowing, I see Dallas as a contender.

(4) Oklahoma City Thunder vs. (5) Denver Nuggets

Thunder in 7. I don't think either team is excited for this matchup. For one, Denver did not want OKC, George Karl said that much. However, the Thunder now have giant expectations upon them. They have to take care of business in this series, even if it takes 7 games. The Thunder's talent is far greater than Denver, but playing in the Pepsi Center is tough and George Karl is a hell of a coach, with a deep, deep team. That said, the Nuggets aren't healthy right now. Wilson Chandler is not 100%, Aaron Afflalo, who's huge to the team's success, is not healthy, Chris Andersen isn't and neither is Timofey Mozgov, who's insurance for Andersen. This will be a fun series, and one of the most anticipated, but OKC will come out on top.

Well there are my predictions! Comment on them, bash them, agree with them, and give your own! I might do this for each round

Posting and Toasting I need the help of some experts

What's good, ya'll? For school I'm doing a research report on the business and finance problems with professional sports, namely the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL. If any of you cats can help me out with the following information, it'd be greatly appreciated!

-What is the difference between a hard cap and a soft cap?

-Since teams are privately owned, how is money generated? Ticket sales, apparel, sponsors, etc?

-Which leagues allow teams to use their profits to spend on players' contracts? This is the case in the MLB, right? Are there any other leagues?

-What are some of the goals of the NFL lockout and the impending NBA lockout?

-Can anybody explain to me how local economies are impacted by the success of local sports teams? Or how they're impacted by the lack of a team (Seattle Sonics, the Sacramento Kings' potential move, etc).

If any of you could answer any of these questions, once again, I would really appreciate it. And for the record, I am doing research of my own to answer some of these things, so it's not like you are doing it for me, just I could use some base knowledge before I get started. Thanks again, and comment away!

Posting and Toasting Oh Yeah! What About This Guy?!

Most readers around here agree that another center is what our Knickerbockers need. Now, a quality starting center would be a little more ideal, but we seemed to have forgotten about somebody:

Young center Jerome Jordan, who was acquired from Milwaukee and is currently playing in Europe, visited the Knicks yesterday. His club is on holiday break. Walsh is excited about Jordan's progress and said he can only hope Jordan emulates what one of his former Pacers -- Antonio Davis -- did by going to Europe. "He's getting a lot of coaching," Walsh said. "He's maturing. They just let the other center go. Jerome got 23 points in his last game."

I'm not sure exactly how the Knicks could go about bringing him back over to the NBA. A buyout from his European team (Serbia, I believe)? Can the Knicks just bring him back because they have his rights? Either way though, it sounds like he could be at least as productive as Mozgov, if not moreso. What do ya'll think?

Posting and Toasting Raymond Felton Should Indeed be an All-Star

In early July when the Knicks signed Raymond Felton, there was a decent amount of speculation. Could he run D'Antoni's offense? Could he even compare to Steve Nash? Could he get Amare the ball the way he was used to it? Around here we all suspected Felton could fill in admirably for his two-year deal until Chris Paul and Deron Williams are available. If the first 30 games are any indication, we've already got an All-Star point guard of our own.

This mostly based off of Osborn's series of trade proposals. I know some of you are pretty sick of all these ideas, and I also wouldn't mind sitting still and giving guys like AR, Mozzie and Walker some more burn. However, this a trade I thought of, and believe it could yield some nice results:

Posting and Toasting Line-Ups/Match-Ups

For the first time in years, the Knicks have a very deep, very versatile team. There about 12 players we would all like to see get time but unfortnately that won't happen. However, given all of the depth and versatility on this team, we can discuss what line-ups/match-ups we'd like to see in certain situations.

Posting and Toasting ESPN's Eastern Conference Standings?!

Over at ESPN, their "93 best basketball minds" voted on what the Eastern Conference will look like and how many wins each team will get. They had the Knicks in 8th place, which is good but, they predicted they would only win 37 games! Screw ESPN! Here's what we have to look forward to from the players I think are most likely to make the rotation...

Raymond Felton: Probably our second biggest move of the off-season. Ray Ray did well in Charlotte and was considered a slightly-above-average point guard but, his best skills were never truly utilized with the Bobcats. Felton is super quick, has nice handles and a nice jump-shot. He has all the tools to score 20 points per game. The thing is, he's a pass-first point guard! Meaning in D'Antoni's run-and-gun system, Felton can use all of his best tools to push the ball up the floor quickly, and either score himself, find a cutter or dish out to a shooter on the wings. Not to mention a surely dangerous pick-and-roll combo with Amar'e! I don't think it's out of the question for Felton to average 15 pts and 8 apg this season.

Kelenna Azubuike: No one knows if he'll be healthy come training camp or preseason but if he is, I think he'll most likely be our starting 2-guard. Buike can run and the floor and shoot the 3-ball pretty darn good (40% for his career). He also loves to get in transition and was on the receiving end of a fair amount of alley-oops in Golden State. Kelenna's a good, tough defender too. He's quick and strong and can easily average a steal and a block per game. Wouldn't mind seeing Buike give D-Wade or Kobe a tough time on offense.

Danilo Gallinari: Everyone's favorite Italian may be poised for a break-out season. He now has a full season under his belt and understands how the NBA game works a little better. Last year, Gallo was a deadly marksman beyond the arc, but sometimes he got a little lazy and just sat out there, waiting for the kick-out. Taking over ten 3-pointers a game is a bit excessive. However, as the season went on, Danilo showed glimpses of a post-up game and a knack for getting to the line. If Gallo can mix up his repetoire and be a little more consistent with his game. He could become a nightmare on the offensive end for opponents.

Amar'e Stoudemire: He was one of the marquee name free-agents this summer and despite the critiques against him (lack of rebounding, defense and injury history), he can seriously help any team he joins. Amar'e is one of the top 5 power forwards in the league and is nearly unstoppable in the pick-and-roll or when he's attacking the basket. His defense and rebounding can be suspect but, with effort he's good at both, he just has to want it. What may be most important about the pick up of Stoudemire is that he's a vocal leader and a go-to scorer. He's the powerful, explosive big man the Knicks have lacked for years and his ability to create highlight plays and dunks should light a fire under the Knicks team this year.

Ronny Turiaf: On most teams Turiaf would not be the starting center but, the Knicks still have somewhat of a hole at that position. In the meantime Turiaf brings a lot of intangibles the Knicks haven't had for years. He's a solid shot-blocker, a banger in the post and will sacrifice his body, whether that's taking a charge or diving for loose balls. Offensively he can live off of dunks and tip-ins and he may hurt the team on the offensive end if he's not surrounded by scorers but, what he brings on the defensive end is worth it. He's also a great teammate and locker room guy. Turiaf will likely give the Knicks alot of help in the paint.

Bench:

Wilson Chandler: Coming into his fourth year in the league, no one is entirely sure what to expect from Wilson. In the 2007-08 season, Ill Will was our brightest young star. Then last season, Chandler struggled mightily through the first half and then found his groove in the second half of the season before being sidelined for the last month. To say he's been plagued by injuries would be a stretch but they have certainly played a role in his development. Now, Chandler must show he can be a solid piece to keep on the team. He is very strong and fast and is terrific at finishing around te rim, whether it's a facial dunk, taking the contact and laying it in or one of those Geroge Gervin type finger rolls he displayed last year. Chandler is flat-out not a 3-point shooter but he has a nice mid-range game and pull-up. Defensively, it's been discussed whether he is overrated but, like it or not, he's our best defender. He's fast enough to guard most small forwards and strong enough to defend power forwards. If used properly (not as a 2-guard) Chandler may turn heads this year and prove he's worth keeping around.

Anthony Randolph: Widely regarded as the steal of the David Lee trade, Randolph could definitely find himself as an important player in D'Antoni's lineup. People who have worked with Randolph or seen him, say his potential is unlimited. He's a power forward with athleticism of a 3, the ball-handling of a point guard, and the length of a center. He's great in the open court, dunking and finishing at the rim, rebounding, and weak-side shot blocking. He still has a ways to go to reach his All-Star potential (assuming he does actually have it) but AR could be a major X-factore in many games this season. He'll most certainly provide some bang-your-head-against-the-wall or throw-your-remote-at-the-TV moments but this is his season to show the league what he's got.

Toney Douglas: Toney Douglas is going to do what Toney Douglas does. He'll be our primary back-up point guard and with Felton as a mentor, he can hopefully learn how to be a better playmaker. Toney isn't afraid of the big moment and that quality may find him on the court at the end of ball games. Douglas is a ball-hawk and can create a lot of steals but sometimes gambles too often. He is a decent shooter but that must improve too. TD will be great off the bench but this is a season for improvement for him.

Bill Walker: It's up to Billy the Bully to decide how many minutes he gets. His competition is fierce, with Chandler, Azubuike, and now Roger Mason Jr. However, Walker showed some nice potential at the end of the season. He's fast and high-flying and the perfect guy to find on a fast break. Surprisingly, Walker is also a good 3-point shooter. However, after losing a lot of weight, he looked uncomfortable in his own body in the Summer League and looked kind of sloppy. He fouls a lot on the defensive end, which isn't a bad thing but, he also too often gives up if his man gets around and ends up hacking him. If Bill can be consistent, he will certainly earn minutes from D'Antoni but to do so, he must beat out four other pretty good players.

Roger Mason Jr.: Most likely the Knicks last move of the off-season, Roger was brought it for his shooting. He's been inconsistent throughout his career but, when he's on, he's a sniper from downtown. With the Spurs two seasons ago, he was their go-to-guy for the big shot at the end of games, which is a great quality to have. Mason Jr. can also handle the ball in small doses, which is good to have if Douglas or Felton got hurt. Roger will likely find minutes but the amount will depend on how he's stroking the 3.

Timofey Mozgov: The Russian the Knicks acquired is basically a 7'1" question mark. In brief YouTube glimpses, Mozgov has shown he's adept at the running the pick-and-roll, finishing around the basket, and blocking shots/ However, it is unclear whether that can all translate well in the NBA game. Scouts around the league view him as a good pick-up and nice investment for the future. He will see some time on the floor but no one knows exactly how it will go.

The Knicks this year have a very deep team of guys who deserve minutes. D'Antoni usually only likes to play an 8-man rotation but may be forced to go 10 deep on occasions this season. For the most part, I think he'll play 9 guys per game. We're super young, athletic, solid defensively, and we have a lot of guys who can put the ball in the hole (pause). My prediction:

44-38, 2nd in Atlantic, 7th in the East

Suck it ESPN!
