The Smoking Musket HA HA HA!!!! HOKIES LOSE AGAIN!

Aside from not signing Adrien Payne, what a great start to the weekend.  VT loses on national TV, after a bye week, to an awful UNC team.  Now if our EERS can just get it done tonight.

Although I will credit their fans - when watching the start of the game, THE ENTIRE STADIUM was on its feet and jumping around.  I'll bet nobody was whining about "oh please sit down, I can't see!".  I wish our fans would get that excited like they used to....

The Smoking Musket Putting out an APB....

for Logan Heastie.  He is the only freshman to participate in Spring drills right?  It seems like other freshmen are getting into the game.  Is he not ready?  Does anyone have any scoop?  In an offense that has been airing it out quite a bit, I'd think that we'd want to look at all of our WR options.  And has anyone noticed other freshmen getting in such as Snook, Alston, etc?

Also, not that I am holding my breath, but did I also hear rumblings about Big Foot supposedly showing up at some point soon?

The Smoking Musket GENO SMITH: Broken Foot

I just saw in Mike Casazza's Charleston Daily Mail sports blog that Geno Smith has broken a bone in his left foot and is out 6-8 weeks.  He couldn't get full details as to how it happened except that it was NOT related to football.  He will basically miss all of summer camp but should be healthy by the start of the season.  This is terrible news considering we'd love to have him as a serviceable backup in case Coley White really sucks, and putting Brad Starks in there will be a big hit to our WR depth.

The Smoking Musket Looking Ahead in the Big East....

I've been pondering lately what I think the future of Big East football will look like. NO, I am NOT talking about expansions or raids here. I am talking specifically about which programs will still be considered top teams around the country in say, 5 years. Even more specifically, let's look at the coaches. I'm concerned that some of the great young coaches who have miraculously kept the Big East relevant may be gone all too soon (see Product and Petrino already). Thankfully we've had guys like Schiano, Edsall, Kelly doing amazing things at their smaller, previously meaningless programs. I think these guys are gone in only a matter of time and it will be extremely difficult to replace them and expect that these schools can maintain their success. Hopefully (?) The Fruit will eventually get their act together and I could care less about Pitt. Billy Stew is a ZERO threat to become a HC at another school and my biased opinion is that we can stay at the top. Worst case, we replace him and I think Morgantown could attract a lot of talented coaches. I also think Leavitt is probably a lock to stay at USF for awhile. Thoughts??
