"Monta left some big shoes to fill, but I know I'm not trying to replace Monta," Thompson said. "I don't feel any pressure because we're two totally different players. I'm trying to go out there and play my game within the flow of the offense. I'm not trying to score in bunches, and trying to score 40 a game. I'm just trying to play efficiently, play smartly and get my teammates involved."
This kid actually gets it. The Klay-Curry backcourt is going to be very interesting to watch once Steph's ankle is 100%.
Official Terms of NBA's Tentative Labor Deal
Uses Google Docs. I'll probably start picking at it in detail when I'm done studying for finals, though the terms don't exactly appear too favorable for either side at first glance. It almost looks like the infamous "ultimatum offer," but scaled back a ton so the players aren't utterly shafted. Thoughts?
Michael Wilbon: My theory always has been that LeBron doesn't yet know how to finish these games, that much like the great high school players before him, LeBron missed out on a critical part of the apprenticeship served by great players who learned how to deal with huge moments in the crucible that is March Madness. Players from Russell to Alcindor to Magic and Bird to Isiah to Olajuwon to Jordan to Wade all learned how to play in June by first playing with great success at the end of March. It took Garnett, Kobe and now LeBron longer to conquer that part of the game, and you can look it up. It took Garnett seemingly a dozen years to get out of the first round of the playoffs...
Other notable straight-from-high-school guys without playoff success, much less a ring: Dwight Howard, Tracy McGrady, Amar'e Stoudamire, Josh Smith, and our very own Monta Ellis. Some food for thought.
Spurs sign Da'Sean Butler
This kinda-sorta pertains to the Warriors in that there is one less option at swingman in free agency this offseason, should Reggie decide to get the hell outta here and away from this mess of a franchise especially after his poor treatment this season. If Butler makes a full recovery from that ACL injury, this would be a great pickup for San Antonio.
We all might be seeing more of this in the near future... hey, they even did this play against the Magic. Oh the irony...
Patty Mills apparently a RFA? (Blazersedge Fanshot)
From Blazersedge:
"Mike Barrett was fairly emphatic Monday night that signing Armon Johnson ended Patty Mills chance of being signed by the Blazers. While that likely will be the outcome, Brian T. Smith took the time to clarify Mills' position with the team."

So, we maybe could have snagged the St. Mary's alum by offering a little more than the $1M qualifying offer the Blazers gave him, but instead we shell out $2.4M for Jannero freaking Pargo? Ugh...
Spurs sign Tiago Splitter
He probably has the most awesome name ever. It's been 3 years since he's been drafted, but we finally get to see this guy play in the NBA. He runs the floor well for his size and is supposedly good on the pick-and-roll. If Splitter can contribute immediately, the Spurs look like they'll have a pretty bright future ahead with George Hill and Splitter forming another 1-2 punch.
Buike Underwent Another Knee Surgery?
Apparently he had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee for tendinitis (the torn patella tendon was on his left). It's not looking good for Buike's explosiveness next season.
It's Official: Caron Butler to the Mavs for Josh Howard
To Mavs: Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood, DeShawn Stevenson
To Wizards: Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, James Singleton, Quinton Ross
Looks like the Wizards are really clearing out their roster for cap space. I expect ex-Warrior Antawn Jamison to be dealt before the deadline too.
Blake Griffin out for the season.
The Clippers curse continues. That makes, what, two #1's in the last three years to go down with a bum knee in their first NBA season? Good luck to Blake Griffin with his recovery and hopefully his luck is better than Greg Oden's when it comes to injuries.
This just paves the way for Tyreke Evans to take ROY honors. Looks like Sacramento wasn't so screwed after all, even after tanking last season and only coming up with the 4th overall pick.
Former Warrior Tim Hardaway to have jersey retired by Miami
The "T" of Run-TMC during the Warrior's glory days will be having his #10 jersey retired by the Miami Heat. It's great to see him being honored for his excellent play during the course of his career. As a five time All-Star and All-NBA selection, he definitely deserves this.
By the way, Chris Mullin still has yet to see his number hang on the rafters. Even Mitch Richmond had his #2 retired by the Kings.
Untouchable? Expendable? Overvaluing and Undervaluing Our Players...
Untouchable. I've seen that term tossed around here a lot lately, mostly thanks to the sudden resurgence of several trade proposals and fanwanking thre-- uhhh, player comparison debates. No doubt the Warriors fanbase as a whole has a lot of homerism for our players, so honestly who on the current roster even fits the term? People have declared Randolph, Monta, Curry... heck some even tagged Stephen Jackson as "untouchable." Are any of these guys absolutely vital to winning basketball, or are we just handing out the title to our favorites among a long line of average players?
This past season, the Warriors won fewer than 30 games. They led the league in points allowed and rebounds allowed, and are below average in pretty much everything else besides PPG and blocks. Nobody on a 30-win team should be considered untouchable, not even Anthony Randolph (yet). Our "role" players are not great, our "best" players are not superstars, and none of them deserve the untouchable tag we've given out all too often in the past.
On the other hand, I've also seen others fans who are quick to call our other players "expendable," which is equally stupid. The same guys who call Jackson a Top 5 forward are quick to understate Maggette's value in his 6th man role. Some people are already in favor of trading away Stephen Curry without seeing what he can do in the NBA just because "he's Monta with more range and less athleticism." Dumping any of our high salary players for a bunch of similarly overpaid scrubs now is not the answer, even with their shorter contracts. It does next to nothing in helping us win.
Chris Paul, Lebron, and Howard are guys who should be untouchable, with others like Wade, Bosh, and Roy closely following. They are far from being perfect players, but they are truely dominant enough to improve the outlook of any team they play on. None of the guys we have currently fits that bill. Does this make our entire roster expendable because we don't have a superstar? No. It just means that we shouldn't hold on dearly to anyone when dealing with a trade that would increase our chances of contending.
Note: I actually finished this post last night and saved it to read over one last time before posting this today. As such, this wasn't written to include the Belinelli trade. But since the deal is now official, I might as well include my thoughts here.
The move was just another classic example of the front office undervaluing our talent while the fans overvalue the talent being traded away, though the latter is much more apparent this time around. I think the somewhat outrageous reactions towards the trade pretty much shows how we overvalue our guys way too much. A good chunk of the fanbase is getting all butthurt over losing Marco Belinelli. Seriously? I hate Devean George just as much as the next guy and would hope he never steps foot on the court for us, but the deal shows we're set on giving Morrow more minutes at the very least. Lighten up eh?
