"We knew what Florida State was going to do, and we know what Wake Forest is going to do," Duke cornerback Ross Cockrell said. "But we can't really worry about them too much because we have to fix ourselves internally first." Duke has yielded 1,049 total yards in its last two games after allowing 646 total yards in wins over Boston College and Tulane to close September.

"I tried to get back in there," said Price, who had his helmet on and was running on the sideline in hopes of returning. "The doctors said I’d be all right, but the coaches said it’s a long season and there’s no point in further hurting yourself."

Former New York Knicks assistant coach Greg Brittenham has joined the Wake Forest athletic department as the Director of Athletic Performance for Men's and Women's Basketball. Brittenham, who spent the past 20 seasons with the Knicks as an assistant coach for player development and team conditioning, will work directly with the Demon Deacon men's and women's basketball programs overseeing the teams' conditioning and strength training. "We just hired the best Director of Athletic Performance for Basketball in the nation," said Wake Forest head men's basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik. "Greg is one of the most respected leaders in his field.

Tanner Price was so sharp in today’s morning practice that I had to wait until the final session, the two-minute drill, to see him throw a bad pass. Price threw a little low and wide to Terence Davis, and Davis was not able to snag the pass. Otherwise, everything I saw him throw was a laser on target. I happened to be standing next to Chris Ina of the sports medicine staff when Price threw a strike that caught the receiver in stride 30-yards downfield. "Man, Tanner’s looking good,’’ I remarked. "He’s been looking good every day,’’ Ina responded.

"I don't want to have any pressure (about choosing a college) over the season," he said. "I need to focus on football and school. I can't be doing my homework and getting calls from football coaches and everything. It could be quite distracting."

Codi Miller-McIntyre flew under the radar into an ACC program Thursday when he committed to play basketball at Wake Forest. Miller-McIntyre is a 6-2 junior point guard at First Assembly Christian School in Concord and the Deacons’ first recruit for the 2012-13 season. Coach David Murr of First Assembly said a number of schools were showing increasing interest in Miller-McIntyre, but that Marshall was the only program other than Wake Forest to have offered a scholarship. Murr said the two reasons Miller-McIntyre wasn’t more widely known were he didn’t play basketball as a sophomore and his statistics were more a reflection of his role, unselfishness and strength of his team than his basketball ability.

There are some things that are givens in life. For example, it would not be wise to tug on Superman's cape. And, it's only a matter of time before Ripley senior Chase Fischer finds his shooting touch. The Viking standout, who has accepted an invitation to participate in the 3-point shooting competition at the NCAA's National Championship game in March, misfired on six of his first seven shots, but finished with a game-high 54 points to lead Ripley to an 89-67 victory over Jackson County rival Ravenswood Friday night. "There are games when he (Fischer) gets off to a slow start," Ripley head coach Craig Harmon explained. "But, he is such a great shooter that I know he will get on a streak at some point."

CLEMSON, S.C. - Senior Brittany Waters turned in a career high and school record-tying 40 points as the Wake Forest women's basketball team defeated Clemson 86-64 Thursday evening at Littlejohn Coliseum. Waters tied the Wake Forest school record set back on February 21, 2005, when Liz Strunk scored 40 points, also at Clemson. "From the moment I step foot on campus, my goal is to work harder then any other QB to ever put on a Wake Forest jersey. God has blessed me with this great opportunity and I am going to make those that have helped me on this journey, my family, Coach (Anthony) Paradiso, my coaching staff, my teammates, the student body, the faculty and the entire Wake Forest alumni proud. My dedication and desire to excel are as equal as my determination to be great! I want to lead Wake to an ACC championship again and compete nationally for a championship. I expect pressure and anyone who doubts that it can’t be done, I will use those doubts to fuel my drive and motivate my team to be great. All things are possible to those who believe, and my actions on and off the field will reflect my words today. I, along with my future teammates and coaches will do whatever it takes to make any past, present or future Demon Deacon proud, No excuses!" - Kevin Sousa Quarterback #8 Lake Nona HS

"They were a lot of points,’’ Bzdelik said. "And the first and foremost was `Men, you’d better get out of yourself and into each other and the team. And you’d better understand that you’d better defend and you’d better rebound at all times. That you can control. It has nothing to do with shooting the basketball. It takes no skill. It takes no skill whatsoever.’ "And I was very blunt with them. With all due respect to my five walk-ons, I probably could’ve played them and you know what, we might have lost by 21. I don’t know if they would’ve scored 90, because those rascals would have gotten down, blocked people off and started a fight or something.’‘
