Goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe saved three Maryland penalty kicks and the Demon Deacons made all three of their attempts to give the Wake Forest women's soccer team a 3-1 shootout win and its first-ever ACC Championship on Sunday afternoon at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The Deacons and Terrapins had tied 1-1 through regulation and overtime, leaving the conference title to be decided by kicks from the penalty spot. Wake's Alisha Woodson and Maryland's Sade Ayinde each converted their team's first attempts, but Bledsoe stopped the next three Terrapin tries, and Katie Stengel and Bianca D'Agostino scored for the Deacons, to give Wake Forest the conference crown. The Indianapolis Colts suspended P Pat McAfee for one game last week, so on Monday, they signed P Jeremy Kapinos to fill in. Kapinos, and S Chip Vaughn, who also signed with the team on Monday, visited the Colts late last week. Vaughn will take the place of TE Dallas Clark (wrist) on the 53-man roster, who was placed on injured reserve. Vaughn was selected in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. He was waived by the Saints on Sept. 4. The Philadelphia Eagles signed him to their practice squad on Sept. 6, but released him on Sept. 21.

Tony Woods, who was expected to start at center for Wake Forest this season, plans to transfer to Louisville this January, according to his AAU coach. "He plans to enroll at Louisville in January," said Norman Parker, Woods' former AAU coach. "He's going to focus on getting his community service and all that stuff worked out now. He's got some obligations that he's got to fulfill, but it looks like come January he's going to Louisville."

Deepest Range Wake Forest's J.T. Terrell is wired up to be a great sniper. In his mind, he's open all the time and can't miss. "Somebody told me he was shooting it from one step past half court off a ball screen," Wake assistant Jeff Battle said. "Who would shoot that? They said he makes them, too. I don't know if coach will let him shoot 50-footers, but he can do it." Fab Melo, Harrison Barnes and Brendon Knight just a few freshman to watch - ESPN

On the quarterback situation heading into the Navy game ... "Sky [Jones] has turf toe. He looked good last night, but we didn't ask him to do a whole lot. Tanner Price is back right now, and that's a good thing. It looks like Brendan Cross has a sore non-throwing shoulder, and Ted Stachitas will be out. Right now it looks like Tanner Price and Sky Jones going into this Saturday."

Freshman quarterback Tanner Price is doubtful for Wake Forest’s game against Georgia Tech on Saturday. Coach Jim Grobe said that sophomore Ted Stachitas is expected to start. Price suffered a concussion in Saturday’s 31-0 loss at Florida State, and did not practice last night. Trainer Don Steelman said that Price will be evaluated throughout the week before his availability for Saturday is determined.

Coach Jim Grobe of Wake Forest said last night that freshman Tanner Price will start at Stanford Saturday night. Grobe implied that would be the case after Saturday's 54-48 victory against Duke, and nothing he saw in review of the game tapes made him change his mind.

"I've suspended Tony indefinitely to allow him to devote all of his attention to the allegations confronting him," Bzdelik said. "It will also allow him to concentrate on his academics, of which he is in good standing."

OFFENSIVE BACK – Marshall Williams accounted for three touchdowns in Wake Forest’s 54-48 win over Duke on Sept. 11. Williams, a Durham, N.C., native, caught two passes, both for touchdowns, and totaled 51 yards receiving. His scoring catches were for 13 yards and 38 yards, both from Tanner Price. In addition, Williams tossed an 81-yard touchdown pass off a reverse to Chris Givens. Williams is 4-for-4 passing in his career for 131 yards and one touchdown. ROOKIE – Tanner Price quarterbacked Wake Forest throughout the second half and helped the Deacons to a 54-48 win over Duke. Price completed 12 of 19 passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns while also carrying 10 times for 56 yards. He compiled 246 yards of total offense and accounted for four touchdowns, 3 passing and 1 rushing. Price is the first true freshman quarterback to play for Wake Forest since 2000. In the second half, Price led the Deacons on scoring drives of 38, 73 and 79 yards.

So those who couldn’t wait to see Chris Givens play this season won’t have to, at least not past Saturday. Coach Jim Grobe said before tonight’s practice that the suspensions of Givens and Kevin Smith have been reduced to one game, making them available for Saturday’s ACC opener against Duke.

Grobe said that although he expects Stachitas to start against Duke, Price will definitely play. "My guess would be, unless we think differently after we look at the film, that Ted played well enough to be the guy next week," Grobe said. "We've got to get Tanner on the field. We're going to be at least a two-quarterback system for awhile, I think. "Now one of them could jump and take off and be the guy. Somebody could just own it. But from what I saw tonight, I think we've got to continue to give Ted and Tanner a lot of work and those other two need to know if (Stachitas or Price) stump their toe, they could be out there."

Wake Forest quarterback Ted Stachitas has won the starting job and his backup will be true freshman Tanner Price, according to a school spokesman. The Demon Deacons have one more scrimmage on Thursday, but it's unlikely any performances will change coach Jim Grobe's mind. Stachitas won the job this summer from Skylar Jones, who finished spring practices at the top of the depth chart while Stachitas was out with a hamstring injury.

Whether the Deacons were gashed, or merely nicked, will depend on the further evaluation of a knee injury suffered by Devon Brown. Brown, a junior wide receiver, led Wake Forest last season with 61 catches. Brown was helped off the field about halfway through the scrimmage with what was diagnosed by trainer Don Steelman as an injured medial-collateral ligament. "I told him that's one you don't even need," Grobe said in jest. "I don't know what the big deal is. That can be put back in there. So we'll see how that goes."

Price led all quarterbacks in both attempts and completions, connecting on eight of 13 throws for 82 yards. Stachitas completed five of eight attempts for a team-high 95 yards. Jones was four-for-seven for 27 yards and Brendan Cross was two-for-three for 16 yards. Devon Brown led the receivers with four catches for 69 yards. Redshirt senior Marshall Williams had a team-best 79 yards on three carries. Terence Davis, coming off a knee injury that kept him out of the 2009 season, had three catches for 29 yards. Jordan Williams had a 47-yard reception and finished the day with two catches for 52 yards.

"We have a great group of guys right now at quarterback," Grobe explained. "I think you get a little concerned if you don't have any talent back there but we have three or four guys that have enough talent to win. What we're looking for right now is a guy who makes very few mental mistakes and does not turn the football over. That's going to be the key. The flashiest guys, the fastest guy, the guy with the best arm may not end up being our quarterback. It's going to be the guy that doesn't get us beat. The guy that takes care of the ball the best and makes the fewest mental mistakes is probably going to be the guy."
