Bleeding Green Nation Saints release FB Mike Karney.

LINK

Karney has been a terrific lead blocker for New Orleans, maybe one of the best in the league at some point. Also a good short-yardage guy for them at the goal line as well. I think he would be a decent pickup for us. Dude's a total bulldozer. He's only 27, and I think would fill the need nicely.

Thoughts? The fullback we need? Not so much? Interested in your input.

The Good Phight Phils sign Pablo Ozuna

Phillies sign infielder Pablo Ozuna to a minor league contract. They also invited him to Spring Training as a non-roster invitee. Looks like a competition for a bench spot / early season starter at 2B this spring.

LINK

Ozuna, 34, batted .260 with one home run and 9 RBIs in 68 games between the White Sox and Dodgers last season. Apparently a utility guy for most of his career, he'll battle Giles, Donald, and Bruntlett for the second base opportunity.

The Good Phight Burrell injures back during BP

http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080930&content_id=3576377&vkey=news_phi&fext=.jsp&c_id=phi

Article says he will be re-evaluated Wednesday morning. If, hypothetically, he can't go who would we see? Stairs would be my guess but Jenkins is probably a possibility.

Does this seriously impact our playoff run, or can we work through this (if Pat is, in fact, out)? If Burrell is out of his slump this is a bad time to lose him...

The Good Phight What do you make of this?

A certain Washington Nationals fan had a very bad experience at a Phillies game, and, of course, blogged a bit about it:

http://nats320.blogspot.com/2008/09/classless.html

I was, initially, surprised. I've been to many games at Citizens Bank Park and this behavior seems more typical of an Eagles game. There's the obvious drunkenness factor, but I've never heard of it coming to a head like this at a Phillies game.

Thoughts?

Bleeding Green Nation WR Situation

Just out of curiosity, how do you figure the WR landscape will look after Curtis retuurns sometime down the road? Personally, I envision Curtis taking back the #1 spot, with Jackson at the #2 and Brown and the other guys in a rotation. On paper, that would give us (theoretically) our best two receivers opposite each other on the field starting games.

However, there are some thoughts regarding this. Does size factor into the decision? (as in, are Kevin and DeSean too small to be the 1 and 2?) Will DJax keep producing at such a high level? Is this Reggie Brown's long-awaited "breakout season?" (however unlikely, just postulating)

Thoughts?
