Winners or Losers?
When I think of winners, I think back to the 70's Habs as maybe the most dominant core ever assembled in hockey. In a similar class of winners are the NY Islanders that followed and the Edmonton Oilers after them. When I think of losers, I think of the Leafs... Years and years of shitty Leaf teams, despite a number of excellent players to have passed through that city...
The Ghost of Yashin to Appear in Blue?
Rumour has it that Burke has met with Alexei Yashin and has been chatting with his agent about signing a one year deal to play for the Leafs.
Once one of the most pure goal scorers in pro hockey and blessed with the strength of a bull, Yashin may be willing to give the NHL another try. If this is true, a short trial contract wouldn't expose the Leafs to much risk and the potential upside of having a talent like Yashin may very well be worth it for the Leafs, who aren't expected to fill the net as much as fill the penalty box in 2009/2010.
Nonetheless, everyone in New York knows all too well that an unmotivated Yashin is just a black hole in which money vanishes. Still, it would be fun to see what happens, wouldn't it?
