Isn't Dempster's injury the perfect opportunity for "The Shark"?
I'm really hoping that Kevin Hart is not the long term solution to filling in for Dempster's spot in the rotation, and the Cubs were trying to stretch Spellcheck out in Iowa, so wouldn't this be a pretty good time to see if Jeff is going to be anything other than a decent to mediocre middle reliever?
Spellcheck pitched three innings on the fourth, why not have Hart pitch three or four innings tonight, then have Jeff pitch three or four innings, and then go on the understanding that he (Jeff) will get four days off, and take the next Dempster start?
Why continue to mis-use a kid the team has invested quite a bit of time and money in?
Omaha bounces back against New Orleans
It’s been a long wait; the Omaha Royals are finally playing good baseball on a consistent basis again. Omaha won for the fourth time in their last five games, and their one loss, yesterday was an extra inning affair that could have gone either way.
Davies leads Omaha Royals to third straight victory
After opening the series against PCL American South leading Albuquerque with a 4-2 loss, the Royals looked like the first place team with a 10-5 victory, and back to back shutouts by Lenny DiNardo and Kyle Davies.

Four straight losses and nine defeats in the last 10 games make this the roughest stretch in an already seemingly lost season.
Nothing has gone right for Omaha lately, and if there was any hope that getting a longer than normal breather, and getting away from Rosenblatt would improve the team’s chance, that seems to have been dashed for now.

For the second straight game the Royals couldn’t make a late 1-0 lead stand up, and the ninth inning was a nightmare for the Omaha pen.

At 23 wins and 30 losses, Omaha is rapidly seeing its season slip away. After a dreadful May, the Royals had to have hoped that June would be a new beginning. Opening the month with a series against a Round Rock Express team that came into town sporting just a 23-29 record had to further embolden the team.

Omaha continued it’s mostly manic play, as they split a four game series with PCL American North leading Nashville.

At some point, Omaha’s late inning rallies are going to lead to dramatic victories. So far, they’ve been more of a tease.

ndividually, most baseball players will tell you the hardest thing to do is hit a baseball. As a team they’ll tell you one of the hardest things to do is sweep a double header. That was obvious Wednesday night as the Omaha Royals and Fresno Grizzlies took part in two games that couldn’t have been more different.

Bruce Chen wasn’t about to let teammate Heath Phillips show him up. Phillips had thrown a complete game for the Royals two days earlier, and it was apparent that when the veteran righty took the ball in the opening game of the Wednesday night twin bill, he was looking to do the same.

The minor leagues are filled with stories of journeymen players who spend their entire careers bouncing from one Major League club to another Minor League club, but few can boast the kind of story that Lenny DiNardo has.

It seems a bit odd that the state where College Baseball’s champion is crowned has no teams preparing to compete for that honor. In fact it seems downright criminal. Lately it’s been downright unheard of.
May 24th was a busy day for both the Kansas City, and Omaha Royals. Thanks to new injuries and the recovering from old ones, Kansas City made a whopping six transactions that will reshape the chemistry not only of the major league club, but also that of Omaha.

The Omaha Royals have got to be looking forward to the month of May being over. After starting the season with a respectable 12-8 record in April, May has been an absolute disaster. Monday night’s win was the team’s eighth victory this month, against 16 losses.

During the Omaha Royals recent road trip on which they struggled mightily, the problem was a pitching staff still trying to find its legs after losing its two aces due to call up over the last few weeks. The offense, lead by JR House, Kila Ka’aihue and Brayan Pena has been one of the best offenses in the PCL. Which is why the complete 180 the team has taken since their return to Omaha is surprising.

Brayan Pena is listed as a catcher, but this season is trying a new position, and so far, the results have been glowingly positive. Pena is one of three catchers the Omaha Royals are currently carrying, and because of injuries and call-ups Pena has seen far more time in left field, than he has behind the plate.

The good news is the Omaha Royals eight game road trip is over. The bad news is they won just two games. The Royals have to be ecstatic to be done with a nightmare journey that saw the pitching staff post a 9.63 ERA over the eight games, and allowed 11 or more runs three times.
