Returning Points and Minutes

Might be old news but...according to 810's Steven St. John and ESPN's Jeff Chadiha, Jim Harbaugh had all but signed the contract to come to Kansas but was told by Lew Perkins that he could not coach in his bowl game that year. That was a deal breaker and we ended up with Turner Gill.

Lew's legacy has really taken a hit the last year and a half.

The NCAA deemed Anderson to be a partial qualifier, which would make him eligible for financial aid and possibly earn the right to practice second semester with no competition. However, due to Big 12 Conference policy, all partial qualifiers must be approved by the league’s faculty athletic representatives and Anderson’s case was not approved for aid and therefore will not attend KU.

You can have a terrific night at the plate and not get any hits, but if you’re a good defender, you’re a good defender almost every night.

Is this true?

Despite Escobar’s breath-taking D at a premium position, his historically inept bat has made him a sub-replacement level player: he has -0.3 WAR in 2011. It would be nearly impossible for him not to show offensive improvement moving forward: ZiPS projects Escobar to hit .252/.295/.334 during for the rest of the season, with his batting average on balls in play rising to the mid-.280s from its current .240-ish mark.

Year Two Feels a lot Like Year One

Pre-Snap Read talks a little Kansas football... Basically, year two for Gill is more like year one. Or what year one is supposed to be for a rookie coach, rather: a bad team, a lack of identity and a tough road to climb, ingredients for a rebuilding season. So how did we get to this point?

28. Kansas City: Last week – 28, WAR% – .534 (11), FAN% – .420 (29), TOTAL% – .444 Howie Kendrick and Jose Reyes had a higher BABIP last week than did Mike Aviles, but I didn’t realize that until I had already typed up the Angels’ and Mets’ comments, and since I’m lazy and didn’t want to rewrite their comments, I’m making Aviles (.545 BABIP in 21 plate appearances) this week’s BABIP’er of the week. Hey, the Royals have to win something, right?

For the first installation in San Francisco last year, Sportvision, whose labs are in nearby Mountain View, worked directly with the Giants, under BAM’s oversight, to get permission to test the technology. In return, the Giants received exclusive access to the data. BAM arranged this year’s installations -- already in place at Yankee Stadium and in San Diego, and under way in Kansas City and Tampa.

I set out to find more. What I found was frightening. The profile that emerged on Haith goes like this: Poor tactician. Poor game manager. Doesn't develop players. Nice guy. Solid recruiter. Needs to hire and Xs and Os assistant. (Which reportedly will turn out to be former Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel.) ... When Haith was hired, I let my emotions get the better of me, and I went onto Facebook, where I am linked up with a lot of other Mizzou types, and wrote that I would have been less irritated had Alden re-hired Snyder. Here's the scary part: Several days later, with my emotions calm and my reason firing on all cylinders, I still believe the same thing.

"Josh went to Las Vegas with our permission to work out a few days to get a feel for where he’d potentially be (in 2011 NBA Draft). It’s something we did not discourage. We are fine with it," Self said. "He has not declared (for draft) nor is he committed to an agent. We said he could have a few days to get a better feel for where he is by working out with some folks in Vegas. "As far as schoolwork, he is OK there. He has put himself in a position he could afford to miss a few days. He will need to get back by next week," Self added.
