Goodnight, Sweet Prince

As many of you may have heard, Turner Restaurant will be closing next week. As our pre and post game haunt for years, Turner will be sorely missed. In order to properly send off this treasure I...

More MKE Ballers Taking the Prep School Route

This excellent article from the always excellent Mark Miller is quite disturbing. I am becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the murkiness around college basketball recruiting.

Smarmy Crean Adds Unfortunately Named Big Man

What's more shocking? 1. That Smarmy Tom Crean added a (supposedly) highly sought after 7-footer? 2. That said 7-footer's name is Peter Jurkin? HT to Ballin' Is A Habit

It's Official - MU to Play Duke

MU is scheduled to play Duke in the CBE Classic on Nov 22 at 6:30 on ESPN2. The next day, MU would play either Kansas St or Gonzaga. Should be fun. Hat tip to GE1974 on the Scout board

SBN Wisconsin Hall of Fame Nomination #10: Butch Lee

This is the first of ten posts revealing the ten Marquette nominees for the SBN Wisconsin Hall of Fame.  These are in no particular order, except for the particular order they're in. Butch Lee...

First Official Sacrificial Lamb Announced

GoMarquette.com is announcing this season's non-conference opponents on a daily basis.  The season opener is against Prairie View A&M on Friday, November 12 at 7:30.  Prairie View was #272 in the...

This post is sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011. And now, a word from our sponsor. When you go to particular school or grow up a around college football you are more than just a fan....

Top 10 Ways To Pass The Offseason Until Tip-Off

This is the final installment in a series of posts sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011.  The first two installments may be found here and here Since we are in the barren desert of the...

Where I Come From: My All-Time Favorite Nebraska Team

Warrior Brad continues his (brief) series on why he loves Nebraska football.

Where I Come From – How I Became a Nebraska Football Fan

This is the first of a week-long series of posts sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011. The story of my unhealthy* relationship with Nebraska Cornhusker football is pretty damn simple.  I grew...

EA Sports Presents - Where I Come From

It's that time of year for college football fans.  Most baseball teams are already out of the divisional race (sorry Pirates fans, you'll always have Jose Lind), the football preview magazines are...

Rivals/Yahoo Blogger Weighs in on Wilson & Newbill

At least one member of the national media has commented on the situation and it's not favorable to Buzz & MU. The most egregious portion has been removed, but Eisenberg is quite critical. Combine this with the Roseboro and Maymon situations and I'm getting quite uncomfortable with our recruiting practices.

Crap Flows Downhill - UConn Version 2.0

Once again, UConn is running afoul of the NCAA. Once again, it will slide off Jimmy Calhoun and two assistants will take the fall.

Peterson Goes Into the Friar

Ahhh, puns. Big news out of little Rhodie. Providence kicked Jamine Peterson off their team today. Peterson was PC's leading scorer and rebounder and torched MU for 28 and 11 at the Dunk after being ejected at the BC. PC also had two players arrested for assault last month, including Milwaukee native Johnnie Lacy. [Insert Providence defense joke here]

Scheduling News

MU starts a home-and-home series at Vanderbilt next year on December 29th. This replaces the potential game with USC. Games with Arizona St and Miami were also considered. In related news we are expected to play Duke in the CBE Classic and we play Princeton as an early round opponent. MU is still looking for an RPI Top 100 team for a buy game. Interesting stuff and I can't complain - Vandy is a much better option than USC, ASU or Miami. I hope to make the trip to Nashville to check out the funky Memorial Gymnasium.

We Are Notre Dame Video

I see you one Scott Stapp "When Marlins Soar" and raise you a Freekbass "We Are ND" video. Holy moly. I would choose self immolation over my team(s) putting out something like this. Be sure to read EDSBS's running commentary, if just for the Incubus mentions.

Tom Crean Obviously Confused

Via Tom Crean's Twitter account from Sunday: "Its been a great day for Indiana with the Cook Hall and also a pretty good day so far for a couple of our former guys. Dwyane Wade had 46" Hat tip to Section 8's fill-in first baseman, who only let one of my errant throws by him.

Brey in Trouble?

More offseason rumormongering in the college basketball universe. Completely unsubstantiated reports say that Mike Brey may be in trouble for violating ND's code of conduct. Rumors involve a local TV personality and former ND D-lineman Chris Zorich. Unfortunately, there's no scuttlebutt on Italian restaurants, blackmail or strength and conditioning coaches.

Buzz Mentioned for Oregon Job

There doesn't appear to be too much behind this report, but his name is being thrown around as Oregon blindly gropes for a new coach.

The Case Against...Charlotte!!

For old time's sake, let's have some C-USA fun and take on Charlotte for this edition of the occasional "Case Against..." series.  Conference USA made for some strange bedfellows that didn't add...

Tournament to Expand to 68

As expected, CBS retained the rights to the NCAA tournament. The tournament is also expanding to 68 teams, though no mention if these will be games between lower seeded automatic bids or at-large teams. CBS retained the rights with Turner, meaning all the games will be shown live, which is great news - no more battling March Madness on Demand.

New UL Arena is Named

UL will play in the KFC Yum! Center. Methinks the famed Kentucky Pork Producers stand won't be making the move downtown.

Wardle Snags UWGB Job

Big congrats to Brian Wardle. He gets his own team at a very young age. This is especially fun since MU is slated to play UWGB at the BC this year. In related news, Badger Nation is miffed that Greg Gard was passed up in favor of Wardle.

Rosiak's Jae Crowder Overview

The recruiting season comes to a head today with national signing day. Here's Todd Rosiak's overview of JUCO POY Jae Crowder, who's being billed as Lazar's replacement.

New DePaul Coach Is...

Oliver Purnell?  Multiple sources are confirming it.  This may get interesting.  He was never able to get over the hump at Clemson, but they were a consistent winner.

Two Years Ago Today...

Today is the 2nd anniversary of Tom Crean leaving for Indiana.  A few questions to the clamoring masses: Do you think MU is in a better position for sustained success today compared to 4/1/2008? ...

The Case Against…Michigan State & Tom Izzo

Earlier this week, an astute commenter asked why there is a distinct anti-Michigan State bias on this blog.  This article is an attempt to fully explain that bias. Despite owning the month of March...

Sweet 16 Action - Friday's Games

First and second round upsets, what hath you wrought?  Friday's lineup is less inspiring than Thursday's offering, which probably means we are in for some barnburners.  What we lack in match-ups,...
