Warriors = Nets' first win of season?

Just saw a graphic on ESPN NBA shootaround. It showed the Net's next five opponents, their records, and the Net's chance of beating them.

Bobcats (7-10, 43% chance to win)
at Knicks (4-15, 28%)
at Bulls (7-9, 18%)
Warriors (6-12, 48%)
at Pacers (6-10, 10%)

This was all based on computer projections. I'd like to know what was factored in to make these projections.

Warriors are now behind Denver a full game. To make the playoffs, the Warriors need to finish the season one win better, which means for the last 3 games, the Warriors need to win 2 more than Denver.

Warriors:
vs. Clippers
@ Phoenix
vs. Sonics

Denver:
@ Utah
vs. Houston
vs. Memphis

Question is this: What's more likely: Warriors going 3-0, (Denver goes 1-2, losses against Utah and Houston) with Phoenix being the toughest challenge,or Warriors going 2-1, while Denver goes 0-3, losing to Memphis.

Of course, all this is assuming we can beat LA and Seattle, while Denver loses to Utah and Houston.

Update [2008-4-10 23:43:44 by WarriorForLife]: I know many people have already stated these scenarios, but I thought I should make it a diary so we can bring all our thoughts to one place.

As of right now, the Warriors are half a game behind Denver for the final 8th spot. After Denver plays tonight, both teams will have 5 games remaining.

So let's say Denver beats Seattle tonight, which is the most likely scenario. The remaing schedules look like this: (Denver would be up a full game)

Warriors:
4/8 Sacramento
4/10 Denver
4/12 LA Clippers
4/14 @ Phoenix
4/16 Seattle

Denver:
4/8 @ LA Clippers
4/10 @ Golden State
4/12 @ Utah
4/13 Houston
4/16 Memphis

If both teams win the games they "should win" and lose the games they "should lose", this is what I see happening (And I mark the GS-Den game as a Warrior win for the sake of the argument, cause if they lose, the season is pretty much over):

Warriors:
4/8 Sacramento W
4/10 Denver W
4/12 LA Clippers W
4/14 @ Phoenix L
4/16 Seattle W

4-1

Denver:
4/8 @ LA Clippers W
4/10 @ Golden State L
4/12 @ Utah L
4/13 Houston L
4/16 Memphis W

2-3

This would put GS up a full game and into the playoffs.

The bold is because I see those two games as neither "should win" or "should lose." It can go both way for either game. So my question is this: What is more likely to happen? A win for the Warriors at Phoenix, or a win for Denver at home against Houston?

If the Warriors can win that Phoenix game, assuming we win every other "should win" game, we're in. If they were to lose that game, however, we would need Denver to lose against Houston, assuming they have lost their "should lose games"

Long diary, I know, but what do you guys think? [editor's note, by WarriorForLife]

The second poll answer hould read "DEN win" not "DEN loses." I can't edit it now, though.

Update [2008-4-7 0:6:11 by WarriorForLife]: SONICS BEAT DENVER!!!

As of tonight, there is a 5 game season for the Warriors and Nuggets. The Warriors again control their own destiny. This Thursday matchup between those two keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Playoff matchups.

For the past couple of months we've all been making our choices of who we'd rather face and who we'd rather not face if we make the playoffs. The majority of us seem to really want to play New Orleans, Phoenix, Dallas, or Houston, and would rather not play San Antonio, LA, or Utah. In order to draw a first round matchup against one of the previously mentioned four, we've been hoping that the Dubs will make a push into the 6th or even 5th seed. Although in the crowded West, this is a very possible scenario, it's highly unlikely, unless we go on a big win streak, and get some help from the likes of Phoenix and Dallas.

Now to my point. Let's say Houston stays on their hot streak, and continue to climb the standings. Suddenly it seems as if it's okay that we get the 8th seed, or 7th if the Rockets only end up in 2nd. But here lies the problem. If Houston does stay hot, are they still on the list of teams we'd rather play, or do they move onto the list with LA, San Antonio, ad Utah? As of today, the Rockets are in 1st with our Dubs still in 8th,setting up a first round matchup between the two if the playoffs were to start today.

What are your guy's (likely) choices for playoff matchups. Include seedings as well.

Idea/Speculation: Brent Barry

Yahoo Sports had an article about how the West is 9 deep with playoff worthy/deserving teams, and all the trading hooplah going on between them. Johnny Ludden, the writer of the artcle, mentions the recent trade between the Spurs and Sonics, and makes a speculation involving our very own Dubs.

The trade could have further implications for the conference. The Sonics are expected to waive Barry, possibly freeing the sharp-shooting guard to sign with a rival like Golden State or Phoenix once his calf injury heals.

Yeah, it's only a speculation. Not a rumor in any way, but it got me to thinking of the possibility of the Dubs signing him. Sure he's old, way past his prime, and he'll not only take up cap space, but would also take away minutes from other wing players such as Buike and Pietrus, but he could also bring in a CONSISTENT three point shot, a veteran leadership, and maybe a little of this.....

http://youtube.com/watch?v=t2icxwr21vQ

The Warriors already have 15 spots taken up, so I don't know how this could work, but any thoughts?

LINK---->http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AlUuppaMQkzquYurDlxCMZ590bYF?slug=jy-sunslakers022108&prov =yhoo&type=lgns
