After my Stage 5 adventures, a good night sleep in my bed, it was off to Golden to catch the start of the final stage.

Well done Golden.

I got there about 1.5 hrs prior to the start – parts of the course were already a few people deep, with plenty more people mingling about. I walked around for a bit, found the team ‘buses’. Bissell was giving out beers to fans they knew, Jonathon Vaughters was very mayor-like – shaking hands & taking pics w/ everyone and I heard the Schleck’s described as ‘Heartthrobs’ – (disclosure: I think they’re cute in a goofy way, but I can’t get to heartthrob. But I'm also not 14 anymore).

I knew I was in for a good weekend when on my way home from work Thursday I noticed my route now has official bike lanes – Hooray!

The plan for Friday was simple – drive up to Steamboat, get in a ride up Rabbit Ears pass, back to town for the finish, then find a place to camp. The drive up – easy. The bike ride, quite lovely – Here’s a view overlooking Lake Catamount as you come down the pass into Steamboat
