After seeing my mock you may never donate to the cigar fund again.
Let'a get a CB
After viewing tons of tape, evaluating the tangibles along with the intangibles, I concluded after Morris Claiborne out of LSU I am not that impressed with any of the top rated cornerbacks in this draft enough to use a first round pick on. I searched long and hard to find a worthy candidate and as tough as it was to do I had to eliminate the cornerback position from round 1OK if you don’t take a cornerback, some help on the offensive line please!
I thought long and hard about possibly drafting Peter Konz as a potential replacement for Raiola I compared him against Alex Mack coming out of college and saw clearly he’s no Alex Mack, if I am going to draft a center in round 1 he needs to be elite, Konz is good but not what I would consider an elite center. Viewing the tapes for an OG I really like David DeCastro and Cordy Glenn after those two there’s a big drop-off in talent in my opinion. I don’t see those guys still on the board when it’s our turn to pick Glenn may drop to us but I seriously doubt it, if he does he’s my guy. I think the OT’s coming out in this class aren’t very impressive probably the weakest class in over a decade, I have to stay away from them early in the draft.
OMG the Bengals drafted Cordy Glenn now what do we do?
Teams are reaching for QB’s, DT’s, and DE’s so we will not select a 2nd round talent DE to bolster our strength on defense no remaining LB’s foot the bill either, so who is the BPA the Lions will draft this year.
Wait for it……., Wait for it……, Drum roll please!
Stephen Hill Georgia Tech WR
Linehan will unveil his new earth shattering Tech-Tronics bookends in 2012
I thought about Barron but I have a strong hunch Oshiomogho Atogwe will be in a Lions uniform in 2012 after Mayhew and Lewand get their ducks in a row. I know a wide out seems far-fetched but using my illogical logic I’ve determined one way to make your DB’s better is to make your opponents DB’s worse. I believe Michael Floyd is going to drop down in the draft making Hill available.
Round 2
Jayron Hosley CB Virginia I have him rated the same as Janoris Jenkins who I feel is a mid 2nd round CB no matter what the guru’s say.
Round 3
Amini Silatolu OG Midwestern State Keep an eye on this guy!
Round 4
David Molk Center Michigan LET’S GO BLUE!!
Round 5
Hate to have to draft this position Bobby Rainey RB Western KY
I hope the Cigar Fund doesn't have a negative balance after this.
Thank You for your support!
I viewed lots of tape and setup my big board , time to slam my new mock draft
My first pick may be considered a significant reach, but after the combines and extensive film study this guy shot up my bigboard from what I first thought would be a player drafted with a high 2nd round pick. I think I know how Schwartz felt when he was viewing Beenie Wells film and noticed DeAndre Levy, and decided to take a closer look. The more film I vewed of this player the more his stock rose. I think between now and the draft a few of the so called draft experts will see what I saw and start slotting him higher in their mocks. So without further adue, with the 13th pick in the NFL 2011 draft the Detroit Lions select...............
SUH and LOGAN Players of the month in October
I'm sure Sean will have a post of this on the main page shortly but for those of you who can't wait here's the linc to the Lions official site.
Lions youth continues to shine as Suh joins Jahvid Best and Louis Delmas as rookie players of the month.
OK now lets hope Levy or The Phonz can get the honors this month GO LIONS
I'm giving Linehan a new nick-name : "The Tax Collector"
Lewand, Mayhew, and Schwartz have done a nice job of supplying Scott Linehan with players tailored to his offensive philosphy and scheme. With the offensive weapons at his disposal he can now attack anywhere on the field in numerous formations with alternating players. If defenses want to take C.J. out of the game he will make them pay with Best, Smiith, Burleson,Scheffler and Pettigrew. If the defenses put 8 in the box to stop Best then our WR's will kill them on the deep ball, again he can make the defenses pay. Bottom line the offense is balanced and Linehan can find a way to score on any drive. He will make defenses pay!! We are looking forward to a lot of points on the board this year as " The Tax collector " makes our opponents pay.

Time for Mayhew to "Mayhew" the Buffalo Bills!!!
The Bills just made room on their roster to add players, particularly at tight end.
Their TE Matthews turned his ankle and needs time to heal.
The Bills are already short on tight ends and they will have to do without the services of Shawn Nelson for the first 4 games of the season due to a suspension.

The Lions have good depth at TE, and short-comings on defense. My thoughts are the Bills are deep at the DB position we could make a move for former pro bowl CB Terrence McGee
http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/Terrence-McGee/86165f42-18bb-4051-a106-5a88ba2ba18d
We could offer up Will Heller and other considerations (Mayhew may offer a 5th rnd choice while gaining the Bills later round picks in the 2011 draft.) Maybe Mayhew goes for a LB instead, the Bills are switching to a 3-4 scheme someone like Kawika Mitchell who has experience in a 4-3 and familiar with Gunther from his days in KC could be awelcome addition to our LB corp
. http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/Kawika-Mitchell/fd97dc6e-cb60-41cb-8ba3-afc10bbd5ca7
We can enter into a deal with the Bills with a position of strength I hope Mayhew will sieze the oportunity.
What are your guys thoughts?
Do you see alternative trades Mayhew could make with Bills to improve the Lions roster?
Do you see another vulnerable team out there to fleece?
A play-by-play analysis of the Lions starters in the Steeler game.
I decided to get the NFL preseason live package, so I could watch and re-watch the Lions pre-season games and those of our opponents. I am trying to determine where we stand as a team this year. I am going to use the pause option to break down our starters on each of the plays by watching each play and player several times to help analyze during the writing of this post. Our Starters play by play analysis begins after the jump.

Woo Hoo ! The Lions are #3
The NFL Network was doing a ranking of the top 10 regular season games of the 2009 season. In the game I thought was the defining moment for Matt Stafford, as the leader of the franchise, the Lions Vs the Browns game was voted by the fans as the #3 game. I think that the NFL having Stafford mic'd up for that game played a large part of the national recognition. I actually thought the game would rank #1 or #2 but I'll take #3 with a smile. That game was one of the most entertaining game for the Lions fans in a decade.
We'll get the #1 spot next year with our dramatic Thanksgiving come-back victory against the Patriots.

Collective Bargaining Agreement, NFLPA's stance = Lockout
NFLPA executivedirector DeMaurice Smith is turning the CBA negotiations into a political minefield. Our beloved game is being turned into politics right before our eyes. Speaking with Shan Shariff on KCSP-AM Smith made the following remarks:
We went to the owners, and they raised the issue about the rookie wage scale," Smith said. "We said, 'Fine, let's cut every rookie's contract to three years, instead of six years.' That would pull $200 million out of the draft. We proposed giving $100 million to retired players to improve their pensions, and we said, 'Use the other $100 million and guarantee it to veteran players in the locker room.' The owners said no, that they weren't willing to guarantee that money to proven veterans in the locker room."

Should the Lions go after any of these UFA Guards if so who (Poll)
I was taking a look at the UFA guards still available in the free agent market and I compiled a list
of the guards omitting our own guards and any with more than eight years in the league. I was wondering
which one of these guards would the members of POD like to see become the next free agent the front office
signs to help sure up the left guard position. Please vote in the poll and leave an explanation on why you
chose that player. My choice is Langston Walker because of his size and experience.
