According the NFLN, and Mike Lombardi, the Seahawks have removed the franchise tag from linebacker Leroy Hill.

He is now a free agent and free to shop his services to anyone he wants. This frees up 8 million in salary cap space for the Hawks.

They are obviously disappointed that Hill was arrested and then chose not to show up for Jim Mora's first camp. Jim Mora publicly said otherwise, but how could that move have been well received. There are other linebackers available that can be signed. Plus the team now has Aaron Curry, who will be making some serious cake. This is a spat that has been brewing for a while. Negotiations stalled last offseason when Leroy hired Todd France, an agent who has always gotten huge dollars for his guys, see Nate Clements. They didn't appear to be sincere about wanting to stay in Seattle long term, and thus this is the corresponding move.

Several sources have suggested the Redskins have begun to send out feelers on what it might take to get Seattle's pick, and the Seahawks, at this stage, would likely seek two first-round picks on the high end. That was a price the Redskins were willing to pay for Chad Johnson last year and Jay Cutler a few weeks back, although neither deal was completed.
Really? Take it now, take it and don't think twice. Move down 9 spots and take next year's first? If this is on the table it should have been accepted in the time I just wrote this sentence. Synder and Cerrato are now infamous for their distaste for draft picks, so in part this makes sense. Also, because of this distaste they have fewer picks in this year's draft to offer, so throwing in next year's first makes sense. The Seahawks would devalue that pick because of the uncertainty it offers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers extended the contract of their newest acquisition, Kellen Winslow Jr., by giving him the biggest contract for a tight end in NFL history.

Winslow, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, agreed to a six-year, $36.1 million deal that includes $20.1 million in guarantees. With incentives, the deal could grow to $42.1 million.

Per Seahawk Addicts. I thought this might be an April Fools joke, but they are even on the official site. I don't know about the rest of you, but I find these pretty hideous.

This color even looks less like the neon piping the jerseys have now, and more like the green that ridiculous soccer team wears.

Man, how crazy would it be if Ruskell jumped on this. This draft is so weak as far as top tier talent goes, trading the Donkeys our #4 pick for Cutler would be a blessing.

Our pal Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com reports that, indeed, the Detroit Lions are in talks that would send defensive tackle Cory Redding to the Seahawks.

Kowalski reports, and we’ve confirmed, that the deal would ship linebacker Julian Peterson to Detroit.

We’re told that the Lions also would get a draft pick.

For now, the team isn’t talking. “We have nothing to confirm at this time,” Lions spokesman Bill Keenist told Kowalski.

Absent a restructuring by either player, the teams would essentially be swapping more than $30 million each in future salaries and bonuses. But, as we pointed out earlier, the hidden benefit is that the bonus acceleration will allow them to chew up extra 2009 cap space at no actual cost.

Ok, so why did we sign Cole? And why isn't Detroit giving US a draft pick or two in this deal? What gives??

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill faces a misdemeanor charge for marijuana possession after authorities found him passed out behind the wheel at an intersection in suburban Atlanta, according to authorities.

Hill, 26, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent Feb. 27.

A third-round choice from Clemson in 2005, Hill has led the Seahawks in tackles or tied for the lead five times in seven playoff games. He started Super Bowl XL as a rookie and has started 50 regular-season games in four NFL seasons, all with Seattle.
