The beloved GD will be paid $425,000 next year, as was predicted by our resident cantankerous precog HC.

Regardless of your opinion of GD, I really don't see this as the best business decision. Is GD getting offers from other schools? Use that cash to hire another assistant for Ken Rucker so we don't repeat last off season.

Texas Basketball Schedule in Outlook

Since texassports.com decided to team with Bluetooth, they have not updated their Outlook importer for UT sports. So I created my own UT men's basketball schedule to import into Outlook.
It is a csv file, if you need help importing that into Outlook, see here.
The way I set it up, the opposing team is listed in the location, and the description has the TV station with direct TV channels. The game times are set up for east coast, so either change the timezone in outlook to east coast before you import or edit the file to add or subtract hours.
The csv file can be downloaded here.

Stoops Tricks Old Assistant Coach into Pyramid Scheme

EDSBS actually linked to this story first and actually quoted the same quote, so hat tip to them: http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday....

To sum us this story, http://www.thestate.com/426/story/94... there is a company, burnLounge, that is actually a pyramid scheme that many a college football player and coach has become involved in.
What caught Orson's eye was this quote from Spurrier Jr. quoting Stoops:

"When Bob Stoops got me, he said, ‘I’ve spoken to a lawyer about this. I’ve spoken to my agent. I’ve spoken to some people to find out if this is a legitimate thing. And everything they told me, this is a legitimate (business). Put your name on it and go do it,’" said Spurrier Jr., a member of Stoops’ Sooners staff from 1999 to 2001

Orson's take on this is that Stoops is just an idiot who thought this was a good business venture, but I beg to differ.
We all know that Stoops is an evil genius, and this is just more proof. He knew it was a pyramid scheme all along, and was just abusing his position of influence over an old employee to rope in more people below him and bring in the cash.
Just another example of Stoops flat out lying and cheating to get what he wants.

The Case for HornsChamps

I’m glad PB isn’t going to ban HornsChamps. There, I said it. I know he can be a curmudgeonly type who talks down to everyone else and has an irrational hatred for everything and everyone associated with Mack Brown, but... this is America, and everyone is entitled to a defense, and I think HornsChamps has a good one.

There have only been two non-spammers banned from this blog - both for good reason. Dhab was banned because he made racist and derogatory comments and created an atmosphere on the blog that was detrimental to the community. As far as I know, HornsChamps has only been derogatory towards the young and those who do not hold season tickets. That’s fundamentally different from inciting a riot because you hate minorities or gay people. HornChamps may be disagreeable, but he’s not offensive. Big difference.

Moreover, if you find his positions unpalatable, just ignore his argument and don’t reply to him. I don’t get the impression that he’s actively seeking to attack people.

Brazos was banned because he also was inclined to make derogatory statements and because he intentionally tried to bring down the community by attacking everyone with inane arguments just to provoke a fight. By contrast, HornsChamps seems to truly believe that Mack is a bad coach and our scheduling is the worst thing to happen to Texas football since Mackovic’s post-concussion season. HornsChamps is not trying to hurt the blog - he just wants to get his point across.

I know that most of you are growing weary of HornsChamps demeaning nature, but like the comic book guy in The Simpsons, that’s just who he is, and although I’m pleased to see he’s trying to tone it down, it’s also just something that we are going to have to accept.

I know that most of you are probably sick of seeing the same list of Mack’s scheduling at NC and what appears to most of us to be an irrational hatred and negativity towards UT football, but the great thing about this blog is that you don’t have to read every comment. Just skip over his comments.

In the end, we can choose to sit in our ivory tower and only let in the thinkers who we get along with in, or we can have this blog community represent the entire UT fan base. HornsChamps is like the old guy who was sitting behind you at the OU game last year at half time when we were down 10 to 7, bitching about how horrible our offense is, how Mack and GD should be fired before the game is over because he could call a better game, and how the season was a failure already. Yeah, he pissed you off, but you know when Shipley caught the TD from Colt in the third quarter you still gave him a high five, even if you had that told you so grin when you did it. HornsChamps is the voice of a fan we may not always agree with, and if we want to represent the Longhorn community as a whole, then he should stay.

In the end, I want voices of dissent to be a part of the conversation on this blog. I’m glad that PB is urging HornChamps to frame his arguments in a more tactful manner, and if he can’t find a way to make counter-points without being condescending, then maybe it’s time to rethink things. But I say HornChamps gets every opportunity to play the devil’s advocate on the points he’s passionate about. So long as he can do it respectfully and without cutting and pasting the same points for every thread, then he can be a positive addition to this community.

Besides, it is not like he dismissed one of our most rational, prolific and insightful commenter and contributor’s playoff idea with an off the cuff remark with out even listening to the idea, or told the funniest commenter and contributor, who is probably main reason that people come back to this blog (beside PB and AW’s posts) that he was just not funny anymore.

What bowl games are you actually interested in

I just went through the list and marked my calendar for what games I want to watch:
Independence Bowl - OK St vs AL
Holiday Bowl - A&M vs Cal
Insight Bowl - Tech vs Minn
Alamo - Obvious
Cotton - Aub vs Neb
Cap One - Ark vs Wis
Rose - USC vs Mich
Fiesta - OU vs Bosie St
Sugar - LSU vs ND
Championship Game
You can see my reasoning, teams we played, interesting matchups (Cap one and Rose), wanting to see ND get exposed one more time and the championship.

What is every one else going to watch?

This man needs his own diary

Because he commented on a story from last month yesterday, I was worried that everyone would not get to see what makes sooner fans so great.
Everyone remembers this story, right?
http://www.burntorangenation.com/story/2006/11/29/161438/02

Well, apparently texasftball80 just got the memo, but it did not stop him from posting three comments and showing his true colors, I am guessing a sooner fan.
Here is his first post, at nine Thursday morning, a general comment on the story:
http://www.burntorangenation.com/comments/2006/11/29/161438/02/58#58
In this post he seems to be bitching about excuses, but notice the suttle hints of OU fandom. The blatant homophobia, the hatred for all things Texas, and a complete disregard for the facts. Of course Colt took his helmet off before the end of the play, that must be why the reffs ejected the guy.
Being the nice guy that he is thought, he gives us what we like and even ends his comments with a p.s. to enjoy the Alamo bowl.
Here is his second post coming almost 10 hours later from his first one, which is in response to Joey's comment complementing PB's fine work at the blog:
http://www.burntorangenation.com/comments/2006/11/29/161438/02/59#59
Ah, all caps title that must mean that Joey sucks with emphasis. I also like the preface "seriously man", letting you know that he is not kidding about how much he thinks Joey sucks. He then goes on with the astute observation that Joey obviously a longhorn fan (he is actually a fan of USC) because he has "nothing better to do other than get on here and analyze and give reasons why your team sucks dick." Well, if you look at Joey's comments: http://www.burntorangenation.com/user/joey/comments, I have never seen his say that USC or UT sucks D, let alone give excuses for their sucking.
He then goes on to say "Thats all yall do is give excuses." This seems to be a reoccurring theme with texasftball80 along with fellatio.
His big finish is what I think most identifies him as a sooner fan, his sign off, "White power." The homophobia was a clue, but racist white superiority, if this guy is not a Sooner, he should be.
Here is his final post, in response to PBs comments to the professor who was saying the article was student journalism:
http://www.burntorangenation.com/comments/2006/11/29/161438/02/60#60
A second blatant disregard for the facts (if freshman of the year is a "lame excuse for a quarterback" I am not sure what a good QB is) and then tries the "you would do the same thing" defense. I think people use this excuse when displaying behavior that they know is reprehensible but are trying to justify it. "It is not my fault, it is society". Bonus points for using the double contraction "yall'd" for "you all would", I have never seen that before.
He continues by saying we are pussies and our football team blows, very nice, and such a convincing argument.
He finishes up classy, with the closing "Bevo sucks dick", which is kind of a let down after the ridiculous "White power" closer, but at least he is keeping his theme consistent thorough out his posts.
