Maxey spent nine years as a freelance sports writer and editor, covering the NBA in New York, New Jersey and Portland; Pac-12, West Coast Conference and Big Sky Conference college basketball; international basketball in Germany with Beko BBL, Die Junge Liga (Pro-A Second Division) and the 2011 European Championship in Lithuania.
