Newberg's top 72 prospects
Editor note: formatting corrected.
The Newberg has posted his top 72 prospects to the mailing list, which I thought would make for a good LSB discussion. Dirkatron will be saddened to find Marcus Lemon barely clinging to prospect status at 62. I was a little surprised to find Skole missing the top 10 at 11, but Jamey is evidently bullish on David Perez at 9. Given that Perez hasn't even appeared stateside, that's a very intriguing decision. I can't wait to see Perez in action this spring. I like Christian Villanueva getting the top 20 love but I'm not sure I agree with him being ranked ahead of Mike Olt. Regardless, I think this could be a breakout year for hitting prospects in this organization when you look at those two, Beltre, Profar, and a few others.
OT: barbecue
This week's edition of random OT threads spawns from Twitter chatting last night amongst myself, RangersSD, Bob Loblaw, Aquaman Esq., and knockoutking. I'll leave it open for whatever BBQ discussion you want to take place, but here are a few topics to get it started:
1) Restaurants - best chain? best local restaurant? Do you prefer a meat market-style place where you order your meat at the counter and the sides are sort of an afterthought, or do you prefer a restaurant with an all-you-can-eat buffet of sides and bread?
As far as chains go, I enjoy Rudy's. A sliced sausage sandwich and a sweet tea from Rudy's is pretty darned good. I also love their breakfast tacos and made great use out of the brisket, egg, and cheese taco while I was in law school.
I guess Cooper's is technically a chain now, has anyone tried the Cooper's in Ft Worth? I enjoy eating at the ones in Llano and Mason, but they are expensive (though in fairness, you get a huge amount of meaet).
Whereas Central Texas restaurants are based on the meat market concept (e.g. Cooper's and Rudy's), I'm a connoisseur of the Abilene-style barbecue restaurant with the buffet of sides and bread. In its heyday, nothing was better than the sides and homemade bread (white bread, cornbread, jalapeno cornbread) at Joe Allen's. Can't forget the awesomeness of Harold's.
If you're ever in Aggieland, I recommend J. Cody's - he worked at Joe Allen's to learn the business and then built his own restaurant in the same style. IMO, it's better than Joe's ever was. The creamed corn is otherworldly.
2) Recipes and favorite meats - dry rub or marinade? Do you prefer beef or pork, or are you an equal-opportunity barbecuer?
I've never met a barbecued meat I didn't like. Brisket, sausage, ham, pork loin, turkey, goat, pulled pork, you name it and I'll eat it. I enjoy goat but if it's not cooked right it tastes like an old shoe.
3) Wood - mesquite, pecan, live oak, other?
For my money's worth, mesquite is hard to beat. There's never a short of it and it makes a nice, even, pleasant-smelling fire. Live oak is used a lot down on the Edwards Plateau because it's quite plentiful, I've never tried it myself (but I'd like to). What other woods have you used and how do they burn?
Ladies and gents, take it away.

Offseason OT Non-Zombie Thread
For your Friday (and beyond) OT pleasure:
1. With the Texas high school football playoffs starting this week (actually last night): do you care about high school football at all? If so, what's the basis of your interest? I do because I live in my hometown of 3,000 people and, for better or worse, the mood of the town literally rises and falls with the success of its football team. As a business owner, it's much more fun when everyone is proud of the town and walking around in a good mood. I'm especially curious to hear from those of you who live in more suburban/urban environments than I do.
2. Random history topic - I've long been amused by the Spanish-American War. We basically decided, "ok Spain, we're tired of you owning these territories now, so we're just going to take them away from you...but thanks for playing!"
3. Twitter and Facebook - I saw a great comment the other day that "Twitter makes you like people you've never met and Facebook makes you hate people you know." Perfect summary of both, in my mind. How much of a beating is Facebook when people talk about their love for their significant others?
4. Australian girls. Enough said. I'm loving the Aussie chick on "Outsourced."
5. Whatever else you want to discuss.
8/18 minors
Lately, the OKC starter has been the most reliable to predict. Last night, that all changed. Guillermo Mehsoso was projected, then Harden was allegedly going to appear on rehab. Then Harden failed to appear for reasons that remain mysterious (yet allegedly no health-related). Zach Phillips performed instead, no doubt a disappointment to the throngs of Moscoso groupies in attendance. Today's starters (in theory):
- OKC (7:05): Willy Mehsoso. Unless it's Harden. Ryan Garko could start and I wouldn't be surprised.
- FRI (7:00): BBTiA says Pimentel, Scott Lucas says recent indy ball signee Clayton Hamilton. Didn't that guy (or someone with a similar name) pitch in our system a couple of years ago?
- BAK (9:05): The sweet sounds of Kenny G.
- HIC (6:00): Miggy of the Saints. I expect he will strike out many, many batters. Hopefully he won't allow many runs like last outing's 4 earned. However, since there were also 4 unearned allowed and with his previous track record of goodness, I will give him a break.
- SPO (8:35): Nick McBride & the Ride.
- ARI (9:00): Carlos Yellow Melo.
Minors 8/17
Headed to Wichita Falls this morning so I will post this one early.
It does not appear that Travis Chick is destined to become our sexiest new prospect. Ben Snyder, on the other hand, turned in a yeoman's performance in relief, with 5.1 shutout innings, only 3 baserunners (2 H, 1 BB), and 4 Ks. Very solid. I think that guy is going to help this club somehow, at some point. The Frisco box here: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=g_box&gid=2010_08_16_tulaax_friaax_1
Today's starters:
- OKC (7:05): Mehscoso. It seems like he's pitching every other day.
- FRI: Off
- BAK (9:05): Boscan. He's gotten roughed up 2 of his last 3 outings, but the K/9 and K/BB were still excellent. He gave up 3 homers last time, but that was the night the wind was blowing straight out to center at 20 mph. Even Cliff Lee is going to have trouble in that hellish pitcher's environment. Call me cautiously optimistic about Fredo right now.
- HIC (6:05): Tullis. He's been roughed up lately too, but unlike Boscan, he doesn't have shiny strikeout and walk numbers to ameliorate it.
- SPO (8:35): Randal Rojas.
- ARI (9:00): Carlos Melo.
Thanks be to BBTiA: http://www.bbtia.com/the-clubhouse/2010/8/15/minor-league-calendar-aug-15-21.html
Questions for today:
1. Are you optimistic, cautiously optimistic, or not at all optimistic about Boscan prospect status?
2. Where do you slot Lujack AKA miles into the prospect rankings this winter?
8/12 Minors
My apologies for my unavailability yesterday, but I am back in the saddle. Wait....what is that....oh no....
GOOD GOD, THAT'S BEN HENRY'S MUSIC!!
He's teased us so much this season, but he actually pitched last night. It did not go well. Unless you consider 6 ER in 3.2 IP good. And if you do, you must be a member of the Texas Rangers pitching staff circa 2001. Ben Snyder and Fredo Boscan were not much better. Brennan Garr was abhorrent. Willy Mehscoso was not bad, but the all-meh relief corps of Eyre/Rapada/Madrigal ruined the day.
Today will hopefully be better:
- OKC: off
- FRI (7:00): The good folks at BBTiA uncertainly project Pimentel in his first AA performance, Lucas confirms. As charred and tattered as the FRI rotation is right now, who knows.
- BAK (9:05): Kennil Gomez, per Lucas, though BBTiA uncertainly mentions Yoon-Hee Nam. As the recently promoted guys like Wieland go into innings-management mode, I don't know how they're going to handle the Blaze rotation. We may see a few tandem starter-type appearances down the stretch.
- HIC (6:00): Braden "Jethro" Tullis. Thanks to someone on a recent minors thread for giving me that nickname idea.
- SPOK (8:30): Rojas.
- ARI (9:00): Melo.
8/10 Minors
Well, my recent attempts at presenting the farm probables have been met with utter disaster. That's partly my fault for not investigating closely enough. It's also partly Ben Henry's fault. He keeps getting advertised as a starter and then, come gametime, is nowhere to be found. He needs to get his act together.*
*I don't actually think it's Ben's fault. But like they did with Michael Scott and the obscene watermark, I am making him into an escape goat.
Today's slate:
- OKC (8:05): Mathis. I feel bad for Mathis. When you look at some of the garbage on our pitching staff circa 2001-2003, Mathis might have been beloved. But when we have Sex Machines like Tanner Scheppers, Captain Kirkman, Lexi Ogando, and Happy running around the countryside, Mathis doesn't get much love. I guess what I'm trying to say is that when we have the Professor of Sex scouting our players, we want them to be just as sexy as he is.
- FRI: off. Probably because they're out of players. No seriously.
- BAK (9:05): this would ordinarily be Big Joe Wieland's spot, but he pitched in relief on Sunday and Scott R. Lucas speculates the club may try to manage his innings from here on out. Lucas projects Robert Ross will mosey out of The Bully* and take The Bump.*
*Joseyspeak. All rights reserved by Jay Wails Ltd., Grapevine, Texas.
- HIC (6:00): Big Jake Brigham. Big Jake was stout last time out. I'm a poet and didn't know it. But I'm kinda "meh" on him after he debacled Bakersfield.
- SPO: Off. At least that's what they say.
- ARI (9:00): Zeke Rijo.
Questions for today;
1. Describe your thoughts on the Professor of Sex in five words or less.
2. Remember when JD traded all of Frisco's non-Marteen/Bleienheart pitchers that one week and we signed a guy out of indy ball? What if Tom Hicks had still been in charge of cash flowing the team? Would we have been able to sign the indy ball guy or would we have solicited volunteer pitchers out of the stands?
Minors 8/8, aka "Erlin & the Bleienheart"
That title should clue you in to today's main event. The Blaze decided to imitate the big league club and take a Monday vacation. Those teams who will be entertaining us with baseball-related activities today (or in dirk-speak, those will be "doing baseballings"):
- OKC (8:05): Omar Beltre
- FRI (7:05): Coeur de Bleier
- HIC (6:05): Erlin the Magician
- SPO (8:30): Juan Grullon
- ARI (9:00): Mr. Blackwell
Today's questions:
1. Are you finally a NeilRam believer?
2. If the season ended today, who is your Nolan Minor League Pitcher of the Year?
All Hail Marteen!! (and other ML starters)
Marteen Day on Cliffmas?! Say it ain't so! If we're not careful, too much simultaneous awesomeness might cause a crack in the space-time continuum. If that happens, someone will have to radio the Professor of Sex and ask him to hop in his 1985 Delorean, fire up 1.22 gigawatts of power, and fly through time to save the Universe.
- OKC (9:05): Guillermo Moscoso. Meh.
- FRI (7:05): Marteen.
- BAK (9:05): Pimentel. The post-Joe Wieland 14 K hangover still abounds. I can't get excited.
- HIC (6:00): W. Matt originally scheduled, but since the Crawfish were rained out last night, Lucas projects that last night's probable Braden Tullis will give it a go tonight.
- SPO (8:30): Nick McBride & the Ride. If you can name me one of McBride & Ride's songs without use of a search engine or Wikipedia, I will give you a gold star.
- ARI (N/A): I think they'll be playing shuffleboard at Sun City.
Saturday starters after the jump.
Minors 8/5
As much as I hate to interfere with IrishP1's monopoly on the fanpost sidebar, it's time for today's edition of "WestTxAg06's Minor League Starters and Terrible Comedy Theater"!!!
Fairly boring day on the farm, which is probably good, given that we'll be too distracted by GnR euphoria to chart the pitches an examine the plate discipline of farm hands. But if you're still interested, let me take you down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the curveballs are pretty:
- OKC (8:05): I haven't a clue. BBTiA says Ballard, but he randomly appeared in relief of a mildly ineffective Omar Beltre last night. Lucas projects Doug Mathis. Given the recent unpredictability of the farm starters, Kameron Loe could take the mind and I wouldn't be surprised.
- FRI (7:00): Ben Snyder. This is another spot/emergency start, I suspect, but I really wish the club would let him finish out the year in the rotation. I'd like to see what he can do.
- BAK (9:00): Wilfredo Boscan. Does the dream continue, does he remain effective?
- HIC (6:00): Braden Tullis. Another night, another quality Crawdads starter. Even Brigham threw down a nice outing last night. It's almost boring.
- SPO (8:30) Randal Rojas. The highly anticipated Ben Henry start FINALLY happened last night, now we can move on to someone else. Deglan officially has multiple hits as a NWLer. I like our Indian offense.
- ARI (9:00) Zeke Rijo. Scott Lucas notes Leury Garcia returned to action with a rehab appearance in Zona last night.
Tonight's questions:
1. Did you know that Chuck Greenberg has 1,243 Facebook friends?
2. Did you know that Tom Hicks no longer owns the Rangers?
8/4 Minors
The lesson from last night is that Joe Wieland is the biggest badass among all badasses in the farm system right now. In case you didn't see, 7 shutout innings, 4 hits, no walks, FOURTEEN STRIKEOUTS. That singularly dropped his ERA from 7.91 to 6.52. Awesome.
The starters (with start times, all PM and CST, per someone's request last night), according to BBTIA:
- OKC (9:05) Omar Beltre
- FRI (7:00): Coeur de Bleier, Lizard ended up starting last night instead of the Bleienheart
- BAK (9:00): Robbie Ross
- HIC (6:00): Big Jake Brigham
- SPO (8:30): Andrew Doyle
- ARI (9:00): Shawn Blackwell
Today's questions:
1. Joe Wieland: great prospect or greatest prospect?
2. Where (i.e. on what level) should Erlin finish the season?
8/3 Minors
Intriguing cast of characters down on the farm today. Be warned, clicking past the jump will lead you to tonight's starters, but you'll also encounter a number of Star Trek, Crusades, and other lame references.
8/2 Minors
Not much time today, so I will have to make this brief:
- Newly-optioned Derek Holland goes for the Redhawks. It'll be interesting to see if he immediately returns to his early-season dominance of the PCL and how the club handles him the rest of the way.
- Michael Schlact starts for Frisco on the heels of a solid if unspectacular Marteen outing.
- Bakersfield is off.
- NeilRam will look to continue his intriguingly enigmatic string of performances for Hickory.
- Spokane: who knows. Lucas and BBTiA both have Ben Henry slated, but Lucas points out that he pitched a single inning yesterday.
- Arizona: Melo.
1. Does Holland end the season in the Texas rotation?
2. What is Holland's role on the postseason roster, if one becomes necessary?
3. Guillermo Moscoso was rocked last night and seems to be on the periphery of the club's plans. Is he on the Texas 40 man roster this time next year?
7/30 and beyond Minors thread
Thanks to coolaid for pinch-hitting yesterday while I did lawyer things that pay more money than LSB Fanposts. But if you want to start paying me, Adam, that'd be great. TIA. Friday starters:
- Omar Beltre goes for the Redhawks.
- King Richard on the mound for the presently-reeling Frisco Roughriders. The Bleienheart dominated in CGSHO fashion last time out, let's hope can he can rally his retreating forces and win a victory over the infidels tonight.
- Fredo looks to continue his encouraging midsummer run through the Cal League.
- Big Jake will hopefully channel his inner John Wayne and thrown down a heroic performance for Hickory.
- The since-promoted Miggy of the Santos was scheduled, per BBTiA, but Scott Lucas reports Sir Andrew Conan Doyle will take his place.
- Conflicting report. BBTiA says Zeke Rijo, Lucas says Shawn Blackwell. I predict it could be one or the other, or perhaps neither, but not both at the same time.
Saturday starters after the jump.
July 28 Minors: post-Marteen hangover
Marteen Day is like Christmas. Or Cliffmas. Even if the day after is good, you're still disappointed that's over. But at least Marteen Day and Cliffmas have the courtesy to return every five days, rather than just once a year. Today's starters:
- Dutch rehabbed for the Redhawks in an early game and per the previous minors thread, had a spotless first five innings.
- Schlacht tosses for the Riders.
- Big Joe on the hill for the Blaze.
- Hickory is off.
- Ben Henry pitches for Spokane.
- Denny Peralta throws down in the AZL.
1. What do you call a resident of Surprise, Arizona? A Surpriser?
2. What do we do with Holland, Harden, and Feldman from here on out?
3. Scheppers to the big club by the first of August, yay or nay?
Marteen Day(!)/"I suck at my job" Minors Thread
So remember that time last week when I announced I was taking over the minors threads? And then I forgot put one up yesterday. Yeah, I suck.
It's Marteen Day today, so everything else pales in comparison. Willie Moscoso throws for the Okies, the suddenly intriguing Kenny G will be providing some smooth jazz sounds out for Bakersfield, and Braden Tullis tangles with the Sally. The first-half champion Spokanites and the the Rookie Rangers have the day off.
Thoughts from last night and questions for the day after the jump.
Weekend Minors Thread
Dueling Robbies and an otherwise decent slate of starters for Friday:
- OKC: Captain Kirkman
- Frisco: Schlacht
- Bakersfield: Ross
- Hickory: Erlin!!!!
- Spokane: Chadwick Bell
- Arizona: Denny Peralta.
A few notes on the latter two. In 30.1 IP, Chadwick has leveled 38 on strikes while issuing only 6 free passes, translating to a 11.3 K/9, 1.8 BB/9, and 6.33 K/BB. Cliff Lee would scoff at that K/BB ration, but mere mortals should be impressed, or at the very least, intrigued to follow Chadwick the rest of the year.
Peralta has given up 9 ER in only 11.2 IP, but has not yet walked a batter and has an 11+ K/9. He struck out seven in five innings last time out. These are tiny sample sizes to be sure, but perhaps more intrigue on already intriguing rookie team?
Questions for the day:
1. Does Captain Kirkman see Arlington in 2010?
2. Who is Denny Peralta and where did he come from?
Saturday (and Sunday, once I discover them) starters after the jump.
Marteen Day MinorsThread
Marteen. Wieland. Tullis. Not a bad day down on the farm. Moscoso and Grullon round out the slate.
The rookies have the day off and will no doubt be battling the retirees for tables at IHOP for dinner at 3:30 this afternoon.
If you haven't checked out the BBTiA Minor League Calendar, go do it now. Seriously. Well, finish reading my thread first, then go. Thanks to David Brown for that. You can find your post-mortem box scores and your in-game streaming audio links there.
http://www.bbtia.com/the-clubhouse/2010/7/18/minor-league-calendar-july-18-24.html
Questions for the day:
1. Carlos Melo: is the control for real or just a mirage brought on by the 110 degree July heat radiating off Grand Avenue?
2. When do you promote Engel to OKC - late this season, to start off 2011, or mid-2011?
Minors 7/20
Player of the day: Christian Villanueva. Scott Lucas notes that the 19 year-old Mexican prospect is dominating AZL to the tune of .342/.405/.526. From the Professor of Sex back in spring training:
Christian Villanueva: Solid all-around player with defensive chops at third and good offensive projection at the plate. The strong right-handed hitter has good contact ability and enough strength to drive the ball into the gaps. Villanueva is another player I'm looking forward to watching in live game action. (3/18)
Christian Villanueva: Good balance at the plate, allowing him to stay back on breaking balls. Fell behind in count early, but shortened swing and maintained good mechanics. Showed Kinsler-esque bat quickness by taking an inside breaking ball down the third base line for a double (advanced to third base on throw). (3/20, Low-A game)
I know nothing about how or when he was acquired but it sounds like he's basically awesome. I'm interested to see whether the club promotes him to Spokane (which would likely require an accompanying Olt promotion).
Starters, courtesy of Lucas, after the jump:
Minors 7/19
If no one else is opposed, I guess I will just adopt the daily minors fanposts as my LSB duty. When I'm surfing LSB rather than working, starting a minors fanpost seems so much more justifiable than simply trolling others posts for new comments. As soon as I can figure out how to bill someone for starting minors fanposts, I'll be living the dream.
Starters and daily questions after the jump. Thanks to Scott Lucas.
Minors thread: 7-16/17/18 (Marteen Day update)
**********Updated**********
So, Harden sucked as I feared. Ryan Tatusko, Kennil Gomez (starting rather than Yoon-Hee Nam) and Braden Tullis most certainly did not. Outstanding starts by all three.
Saturday starters below the jump. As always, thanks to Scott Lucas.
Minors 7/15
To recap last night: Fredo might be for real and there were heat pearings in the Sally, but W. Matt was the one getting heat peared, not the one supplying the heat pears.
Thanks to Scott Lucas for supplying the information necessary for composing what appears after the jump:
Minors: 7/14 & beyond
Time for a new minors thread. It's not like we've got the Rangers to worry about tonight, so we need to talk about some organizational games taking place.
The Redhawks and Roughriders are idle tonight, presumably taking a day off in observance of Cliff Lee's Awesomeness. Speaking off, how fitting was it that the most dominating pitching performance of the All-Star Game was by a Ranger, but Fox chose that half-inning to interview Joe Girardi and have Tim McCarver give an asinine rental property anecdote, completely ignoring Cliff. Even when we win, we still lose.
As for the minors, thanks to Scott Lucas for educating me with the information provided after the jump:
More Chuck Morgan goodness
This was a big story here in the Abilene area at the end of April, a long-time and beloved veteran of the Abilene Police Department was killed on duty in a motorcycle accident.
Well, apparently he was a Rangers fan and became friends with the great Chuck Morgan along the way. So this Saturday, his family is being honored at the game, at the invitation of Chuck.
Every time you turn around, Chuck is doing something neat for the community or making the ballpark experience better. Can't wait to have new ownership in place so they can turn him loose and give him some money for improvements. Thanks, Chuck
http://www.reporternews.com/news/2010/jun/03/late-abilene-officer-to-be-honored-at-rangers/.
Abilene police officer Rodney Holder will be honored Saturday afternoon at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington when the Texas Rangers meet the Tampa Bay Rays.
Holder, 50, died while on duty in a motorcycle accident on Sayles Boulevard April 29. He was a 28-year veteran of the Abilene Police Department after graduating from Cooper High School and the Abilene Police Academy.
Holder’s wife, Annemarie, 13-year-old son Kyler and daughter Hilary Eufert will be honored at the Rangers’ game that begins at 3:10 p.m. Mike Ricker of APD said about 20 people from APD are scheduled to attend Saturday’s game at the invitation of the Rangers and Chuck Morgan, vice president of in-park entertainment.
“Rodney and Annemarie were big fans of the Rangers,” Ricker said. “They went to several games every season and became friends with Chuck Morgan of the Rangers.”
Saturday’s nationally televised game is the second of a seven-game home stand for the Rangers, who were in first place in the American League West before Thursday night’s game in Chicago. Saturday’s game originally was scheduled for 7:05 p.m. but was changed to accommodate FOX television’s national broadcast at 3:10 p.m.

OT: Country music, etc.
On the morning thread we had a nice little discussion going about country music, what qualifies as country, today's mainstream country sucking, and more. I thought a fanpost would be a nice idea to keep the discussion going as long as we please, rather than it getting lost in the morning thread and then getting pushed down the front page.
A few topics for discussion (though by no means comprehensive):
1. Great classic country artists - George Jones, Buck Owens, Charley Pride, Ferlin Husky, Lefty Frizzell, Johnny Horton, Hank Williams, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, etc.
2. Great newer artists who are keeping the tradition alive and putting out great country music despite the fact that mainstream radio doesn't want to play it: Dwight Yoakam, Steve Earle, Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett, etc.
3. Alternative country, country-rock, and other great stuff on the "fringe" that deserves more love for continuing and propagating the roots behind country music: Ryan Adams, Gram Parsons/Byrds/Flying Burrito Brothers, Wilco, etc.
4. What defines good "country" music? To me, at the heart it needs to be "real." It doesn't have to be rural per se, but it needs to feel like it's something about real people that is relatable. And while I'm not opposed to mixing in novelty and "fun" songs, I want my country artists to be great story tellers. Don't just play "country music mad libs" (IMO, that defines mainstream country radio today, just mix good ol' boy/Christian/pro-America comments into a song and you're good to go [keep in mind that I am a patriotic, good ol' boy Christian myself, so I am not opposed to any of those things, just their patronizing use in music]) tell us a story.
I'll leave it at that for a starting point and see where the discussion takes us.
4/24 Minors Thread
At 5 pm, Robbie Ross will dismiss Savannah as if they're a cloud of Sand Gnats.
Blake Beavan Rides Roughshod over the Hooks at 7.
Brandon McCarthy at 7 (insert lame Redhawks-related play on words here).
Kennil Gomez Blazes past San Jose at 9:15 pm.
For all your daily farm probables: http://my.calendars.net/farmprobs/
Minors 4/19 (recap) and 4/20
Since Firebat is too busy studying or somesuch (seriously, what's up with that?), I figured I'd try my hand at starting a minors thread.
For a recap of yesterday's activities, read Scott Lucas's handiwork. Seriously, do it now. He's the man. Cliff's notes: BMac - good, Smoak - patient, Ogando - good, Snyder - solid, Boscan - decent (but a quality K/BB), Ross - mortal, Erlin - hates allowing runs.
Today's starters:
- Wild Wilmer throws fireballs at the Sally at 6 pm.
- King Richard the Bleienhearted dominates the Texas League at 7 pm.
- Captain Kirkman and the Redhawks at 7 pm.
- The Main Event hits the California League at 9 pm.
For all your farm starter goodness, check out The Shroom: http://www.my.calendars.net/farmprobs/
Is it time for the LSB front office to DFA BuckyB?
And let's not even try to work out a trade or run him through waivers and outright him to the minors. Just give him his outright release.
On the scale of openly and egregiously taunting baseball karma, where does this rate?
So I can watch a Nellie Walk-off
Simply appalling. At the time, I wished my eyes could have unseen that post. And then the 9th happened. I am considering dirkatron-esque acts of rage right now.
Greatest SS of all time
This topic got broached on the morning thread and, considering how we've entertained ourselves the last week or so, I thought this would be a good fanpost for the waning days of the offseason. I'm not the statistical guru that philkid and some others are, so I'll open the dance and then let you guys weigh in with statistical arguments for and against the candidates.
If Lone Star Ball were a movie
This idea arose last night on the "five recent searches" thread. LSB poster coolaid mentioned the show "Archers" on FX and described it with the phrase "idiotic characters and out of control banter." That sounded like a perfect description of LSB to me, so my mind started wandering to the idea of "Lone Star Ball: the Movie."
