Is Demetrius Bell the Linchpin in Buffalo's FA and Draft Strategy?

Within the past 4 days Bills have re-signed two key offensive weapons in WR Steve Johnson and TE Scott Chandler. With these two players signed it looks to be a very interesting Free Agency period...

Fitzpatrick Claims He is Healthy

4

Recently a small number of Rumblers opined Fitzpatrick's decreased efficiency and production might be related to a torso injury suffered during the Washington Redskins game. We now have our answer. Fitzpatrick told Mark Gaughan, of the Buffalo News, that he is not injured and has been healthy for over a month.

Needed: Running Back Depth for Buffalo Bills?

Based on last season, this preseason, and the Bills week one game at Kansas City it appears the Bills are in need of another all around back on the roster.

Zach Pianalto Claimed by Tampa Bay

8

Former UDFA Tight End Zach Pianalto was claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay yesterday. Pianalto, a former University of North Carolina TE was waived by the Buffalo Bills on Sunday after the Bills were awarded TE Lee Smith off of waivers. Pianalto was a heavily recruited high school player who showed significant receiveing skills at UNC. Unfortunately Pianalto was oft injured suffering two broken legs and a foot injury during his time at Chapel Hill. Pianalto was signed by the Bills as an UDFA prior to training camp and played well during the final two preseason games after suffering a hamstring injuury early in camp. Pianalto demonstrated field awareness and feel in the passing game as he consistently found open space and showed sure hands. Pianalto also proved himself an able and willing, if not powerful blocker. Pianalto was consisdered a surprise member of the Bills 53 man roster after saturdays cuts. Pianalto's time as a Bill ended just a day later as the Bills claimed Smith, a 5th round draft pick of New England, off the waiver wire. Smith is widely considered a better blocker who will better fit Chan Gailey's preferred TE role. Time will tell if this TE switch will benefit the Bills in the years to come. Pianalto showed rare poise and awareness in the passing game for a rookie who missed half of training camp. If Smith proves to be the highly skilled blocking TE his supporters claim him to be the Bills may have found there long missing replacement for Pete Metelaars.

Packers Release 3, Including AJ Hawk and Donald Lee

1

The Packers have released three players including ILB AJ Hawk and TE Donald Lee. Hawk was released due to being due 10M in the upcoming year of his contract. It seems to me Hawk and Lee are definate upgrades for the Bills and this is a golden opportunity for Buffalo to build their roster before the draft. I hope Buddy and Chan take a hard look at these two players. Hawk could fill a real need at ILB although he is not very good in pass coverage. Lee is a definate upgrade over anything we have at TE unlessLee has some locker room or off the field baggage issues. What do you think? Could these two help the Bills?
