BCB's super scouts (March 25 ST game, LAA @ ChC)
I've been sitting on this for awhile now, mostly because I'm lazy, and haven't wanted to get my digital camera out of the trunk of my car or learn how to crack the TiVo DRM to post this in higher quality. The link is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvUtjiShYvE and I think it's only about 30-40 seconds long.

Bonds tests positive for amphetamines.
No suspension to follow.
NEW YORK -- Barry Bonds failed a test for amphetamines last season and originally blamed it on a teammate, the Daily News reported Thursday.Barry Bonds
Bonds is still under investigation as to whether he perjured himself when he testified in 2003 that he never knowingly used performance-enhancing drugs.
When first informed of the positive test, Bonds attributed it to a substance he had taken from teammate Mark Sweeney's locker, the New York City newspaper said, citing several unnamed sources.
Can't say I'm surprised, as greenies were more common than even roids, but I'm surprised he'd be dumb enough to take the risk.

Vote as a guest, then register and vote again, in Chicago tradition.
Do hyperlinks not count towards the character limit or what? Anyway, if you don't vote for BCB, something bad will happen to you.

Poll Comment Thread
Of the non-tenders Al listed, I'd like to see us go after Byrnes, Miller, and Spivey. Byrnes is coming off of a bad year last year, but he did a lot of moving around, and at worst, would be a good defensive replacement for Murton in left late in games and a good platoon partner for Jones in right. (Career .293 hitter against lefties.) If we're dead-set on moving Walker, then Spivey would have to be a better option than Neifi for second, and Wade Miller would be worth taking a flyer on as an extra arm in the rotation. Thoughts?

We may have overpaid for Eyre and Howry
But at least we're not giving Kyle Farnsworth 15-17 million over three years.
The NY press is going to love him.
From the article:
One baseball official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that Farnsworth will ink a three-year contract worth $15-17 million. The deal could be announced as early as Wednesday.

Rotoworld speculation on Eyre:
Agent Tommy Tanzer said free agent Scott Eyre is close to reaching agreement on a deal but wouldn't say with which club.
"It could be relatively soon, before the weekend potentially, or sooner," he said.
Tanzer stated yesterday that it was between the Cubs, Cardinals, Astros and Braves. We believe he's choosing the Cubs' offer. Nov. 17 - 7:39 pm et

Neifi signs...Furcal to follow?
Agent Paul Kinzer, who also represents free-agent shortstop Rafael Furcal, worked out the deal with the Cubs. Furcal appears to be the Cubs' primary target, but the Atlanta Braves hold exclusive negotiating rights through Thursday.
Hopefully this is some sort of package deal, otherwise, I don't think I like this signing, this early, all that much.

Now starting in Left Field, for your 2006 Chicago Cubs...
Nomar???
And though it may seem like a far-fetched scenario, Garciaparra wouldn't discount the idea of moving to left field for the Cubs, if they asked.
"Whatever," he said. "If you're where you want to be and you want to be part of a great organization and a great team ... I have a hard time saying it's a sacrifice. It's just something you do because we're a team."
Sounds like he'd do it if asked. Now the question becomes, will he be asked? Could he possibly play Center for us, leaving left open for Murton, and right open for a FA/Trade option (B.Giles, A. Kearns, A.Dunn <crossesfingersbutrealizesI'vegotthesamechancesasDunn>)?

Nomar Update
Stolen from Yahoo, who got it from KFFL, who got it from Carrie Muskrat (spelling intentional).
Chicago Cubs SS Nomar Garciaparra (groin) was 1-for-2 in his first game on a rehab assignment with the organization's rookie ball team in Mesa, Ariz. He played four innings, getting an infield hit and a strikeout, according to Carrie Muskat of Cubs.MLB.com
The infield hit warms the cockles of my heart.
