McCovey Chronicles Michael Young??

What would our interest be in Michael Young?  Word is out that he doesnt want to DH and wants out of Texas.  Now, he's old, he plays each infield position and he makes a fair chunk of money so we know Sabean is interested.  I've liked him throughout his career, but I realize his numbers have declined; though his roster flexibility is appealing.  What say we?

A few disclaimers: Its Monday after the Super Bowl.  Its the dead middle of winter.  My work uses IE6 (who uses IE6?) so navigating through anything but the corporate homepage is a bear.  Please dont mock me if it's been talked about ad nauseum, etc.

McCovey Chronicles In Timmy's next start......

...he would have to pitch 4 2/3 innings, give up 8 ERs, 40 hits, 7 HRs, and 2 BBs (that's minor, at least) in order to equal Adam Wainwright's season stats in ERA, WHIP, BAA, and HRs.  Granted, Timmy would still be 4 Ws behind Adam, but Timmy would still have 2 fewer losses (assuming he lost this hypothetical outing), a better W/L%, 60 more Ks, a better K/BB ration and a better K/9 ratio.

Now, I realize Im not in the best arena to get a lot of support for Wainwright, but if anyone can play devil's advocate for me and support Adam beyond "well, he's got a lot of wins and is pitching on a certain playoff team" I would greatly appreciate it.

Maybe some of the funky sabre-stats support it, I just don't see it.

Carpenter, at least, seems like an easier arguement to sustain, but it's not much better than Wainwright on similar stats.

McCovey Chronicles Hi Everbody!

Ive been lurking on the site for awhile now and finally thought I'd formally introduce myself.  Ive been a Giants fan for over 20 years now, though Ive never lived in CA and have only been to the Bay Area twice.  I probably will have very little to add to this board since I dont get to see the Giants play as much (dropped MLB Extra Innings this year; recession tides drop a lot of boats, ya know) , Im not as stat sophisticated as some of yall, and the world really doesnt need another web-comedian (tho' I still find the impulse sometimes).

In a transparent attempt to a)look like one of the cool kids b)instantly "up" my baseball street cred c)brag and d)provide some input to this board that may or may not entertain you - Im providing pictures of my recent week in St Louis.  Im fortunate enough to work most of the All Star game FanFests.  Sorry for the craptacular pictures at the game.  Like a dork, I forgot to bring my camera and only had my cell phone.

It was a great game to watch.  Weird side note, the afternoon of the game I sold Heath Bell and his family a box of O-Pee-Chee cards (Perhaps the cheapest, crappiest cards of all cards in the marketplace).  The AmEx slip is filed away.  He then went on to blow the game for the NL.  Nice job, Heath.

Thanks for the entertainment and the wealth of information that just cant be found living outside the Bay Area.
