Bleeding Green Nation Analysis of the Vince Young W/L argument (Warning: Long)

I have been trying to figure out the love for Vince Young (VY) ever since news broke that we might sign him.  I've been repeatedly bashed for hating on Vince Young but no one can give me a solid argument as to why he deserves so much credit.

The arguments I usually get are ‘he has a ton of potential' or he is 30-18 as a starter.  The potential is a tough thing to argue and I don't totally disagree.  Yes, he is a gifted athlete no question there and I'm not here to argue his athletic ability.  When he needs to, he can run and he's won games doing just that.

The 30-18 record argument is weak yet it's everyone's go to argument.  It's worse than the Cowboys telling us how many rings they have.  Has anyone bothered to look at his stats in these games? I didn't want to have to do this analysis but I wanted to see if I was crazy or not.  After all it is possible that I was unjustly hating on this guy.  After discussing this with Foos who seemed to echo my thoughts I decided to dig into the wins to see exactly how good VY was.  Well I'm here to tell you that I am not crazy and after the jump you will see what I mean.http://www.sbnation.com/javascripts/vendor/tiny_mce_3_0_7/plugins/pagebreak/img/trans.gif

Check out the double take on Shawn Andrews ... had me dying.

'Great job you little midget you' is the best Andy Reid quote to date.

Shutdown Corner does a segment where they say Vick is being wronged. It's utter bullshit. Kolb is the starter just because Vick had a good game doesn't change that.

When McNabb went down and AJ Feeley came in and played well we weren't saying Feeley was wronged were we?

This knee jerk reaction because they guy was flashy against the Lions, who are a whopping 2 and 32 in their last 34 games.

Good news for him, at one point it was a question as to whether he'd keep his leg.

I bring this up only because of the firing of Dan Leone was met with such outrage. I wonder if this will cause as much of a stir ... doubtful because it was in Pittsburgh and not in Philly.

Eagles are signing players left and right ... interesting Lindley signed before any other 4th rounders or even 5th rounder Ricky Sapp

At the game yesterday and this guy shows up in the 4th inning, he left in the 8th. Worst fan ever?

Derek at Iggles Blog compares running backs rookie and sophomore season to try and shed some light on what we can expect to see from LeSean.

Honestly all it does is raise more questions for me. For all intents and purposes Shady was our premier back last year. He will be again this year and I expect his stats to improve from experience but I'm just not sure how much.

Here's to hoping he's the next Frank Gore!

Plaxico lies to a guard and gets his yard time yanked. I'm assuming for a guy in protective custody yard time has to be a big deal. Keep up the good work Plax.

Article about the company trying to bring a football team to LA ... the story we hear about every year.

this made me laugh though ...

At the very least, that last part is true. Building a bigger stadium for Jacksonville football fans would be like building a bigger public library for high school drop-out crystal meth tweakers. It's just not going to get much use.

Eagles DeSean Jackson will be at The Dizzy Bulldog this Thursday night ... Special guest Whodie126 :)

Seriously though he'll be doing a meet and greet at The Dizzy Bulldog (formerly Zoo Lounge) in Hockessin Delaware.

Bleeding Green Nation Eagles top NFC East this decade

Eagles best in the NFC East this decade

Since the start of the 2000 season, Philadelphia is 113-62-1, including the playoffs, which is fourth best behind Indianapolis, New England and Pittsburgh.

Not bad company, but it does hurt to know what the only difference between them and us.

Bleeding Green Nation Successful Surgery for Hobbs

Successful Surgery For CB Hobbs

Hobbs is expected to make a full recovery and return to the field next season. Hobbs was placed on the Injured Reserve list by the Eagles on Nov. 11 after suffering a neck injury three days earlier in a Sunday night game vs. Dallas.

This is awesome news neck injuries are serious business so to hear that they believe he can eventually play again is fantastic news.  Not everyone is a fan of Hobbs as a corner, but he did well (save for NO game) as a returner.  Regardless of play I'd never want someones career to end from an injury.

He will be a RFA after this season (assuming no new CBA) I'm not sure how likely it is that we retain him but I wish him a speedy recovery either way.

If you have about 8 minutes I suggest you watch this, it's pretty cool and proves that Drew Brees is in fact a robot sent back in time to throw footballs.

He just talks about teams that could use Brand now ... not actual trade options or the fact that Brands contract is ridiculous. Anyway, thought I'd share.

Bleeding Green Nation Brent Celek has a little Captain in him

League shipwrecks Captain Morgan campaign

Captain Morgan may have pulled off the quietest and shortest-lived advertising ambush in sports history last Sunday. One that was almost universally unknown, barely noticed, and yet, promptly squashed by the NFL this week.

Captain Morgan intended to offer lucrative charity contributions in exchange for each instance a player was caught on camera doing its pose during a game. The contributions were earmarked for the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund – a non-profit which helps retired NFL players with various hardships after leaving the game.

Bleeding Green Nation Eagles Tackling Breast Cancer

We here at BGN are all fans of the Eagles as the football team, I also happen to be a fan of the Eagles as an organization.  They participate in many events throughout the year to raise money for various charities and I don't think enough people find out about them.

Anyway this weekend, Sunday to be exact the parking lot at Lincoln Financial will play host to an "Autocross Event presented by CJ's Tires & Automotive Services"

more information available here www.phillyscca.com

Basically there will be a car show and an auto cross track that people will be racing on.  This isn't a legit auto cross race just local SCCA members and amateurs running the course but should be entertaining.

Eagles Cheerleaders, Swoop, and former Eagles players will be in attendance.  It's for a good cause so if you are around Southwest Philly I suggest stopping by.  I've never been to this even but will be attending this weekend.  The best part ....

Philadelphia SCCA will donate all proceeds from this event in support of the Eagles and their fight against breast cancer

Possible BGN Meetup???

Good news for fantasy players his stats should go up now that he isn't getting a new QB every week.

Can't say I'm surprised he would have walked at the end of this year for nothing.

Bleeding Green Nation Kolb - Hypocrisy in Arguments

So for the longest time we’ve heard the argument that Kolb cannot replace McNabb and will never be a starter in the NFL.  While I believe this still remains to be seen I find it humorous looking at the arguments.
