Bleeding Green Nation Moving Forward

As is the case with most fans, I’ve been wrestling with where to go with this team. If Andy stays, I and think he will (and should) be given another year, he’s going to need to make some changes. I don’t think you can just bring this unit back and expect big things. You have to break ties with the bad attitudes and empower the strong leaders. It would appear that Castillo’s fate is likely sealed. I like the guy but this defense is awful. I'd love to see Spags come back to the promised land and lead the D for us if things don't work-out in St. Louis. From a personnel standpoint we clearly need to see some improvement at linebacker and safety. I believe the defensive front is really pretty solid from a talent and attitude perspective. I don’t like where we are with DRC or Asante. If given my choice, I’d cut DCR and commit to Asante. DRC has shown nothing and seems to be an attitude problem. On offense, I think we suffer from a major lack of leadership. This is an indictment of Vick. He has poor leadership skills and, frankly, rarely comes through in the clutch. Having just signed him to a long-term, big dollar deal, this is disappointing. I’ve pondered this one extensively and think there may be a solution but it would require a major move and a willing partner. In Vick you have a purported MVP caliber player. Where could you get that sort of value in return in tandem with a willing partner and endup with the leadership we are currently lacking? San Diego. Norv is gonna be gone at the end of this season. They are going to be looking at change and, it seems to me, Rivers could benefit from a change of scenery. The presence of Vick may also be an interesting lure for a good coaching candidate. So… big move there but you get leadership and, in my opinion a MVP caliber QB. I think you also need to cut ties with DeSean – tag and trade. He is a major attitude problem and we must fix the locker room. We all saw what this O looks like without a deep threat against AZ. Interestingly, Vincent Jackson is a free agent. This would give Rivers a familiar face and give us a deep threat. I think at the end of this we are certainly no worse from a talent standpoint, have found a leader, and are ready to move forward. I may be lost in the fog but I just don’t see a way forward with the leadership on this roster. I realize that we need to make sure that River’s shoulder is healthy before we make a major move like this but, if healthy, I would love to see him in the Andy/Marty system.

Bleeding Green Nation Eagles Memory - In the right place this time

'Dooh - so you can tell I don't post here very often.  In my ignorance I put this in the comments the first time around.  Let's try this again:

For me, as with many birds fans, the triumph of finally winning the NFC Championship, after three miserable failures, has to take the cake. However, my journey to this game was one to remember. I have been a season ticket holder for over a decade. I was living outside of Syracuse when my sister and I first decided that season tickets were a solid way to make sure that the family got together on a regular basis – at least during the fall. I’ve got to hand it to her – it was pure genius. As you can imagine, I drove through some crazy weather living up in the great north coming to and fro games. This includes afternoons watching games in shorts and tee-shirt yet having to drive through blizzard conditions before I got home. You would think that when I moved to outside of Richmond the weather component of my eagles adventures would have mellowed a bit. Well… like all of eagles world, I woke on the morning of January 23, 2005 to find that the weather @#$*! had hit the fan. My wife, good lady that she is, tried to talk me out of going to the game, knowing that it was fruitless. I hopped in the car at around 6:30am and started up I-95. The road conditions were bad and getting worse. I picked-up my buddy Ben in DC and continued north. We noticed that between DC and Baltimore that we were the only car on the road – whatever, we were going to the game – there was no question. As we approached Harve de Grace, we saw a sign telling us that I-95 was closed. Hummmm…. bad sign. Fortunately, I had spent some time in the area and was fully aware that Rt. 40 paralleled I-95 through this area. We exited and took some random road over to Rt. 40. When we got over there the road is a ghost town and the road conditions sucked. We plow forth. We had several full on out of control moments through Aberdeen. Cal Ripken would have been appalled but hey – we’re not O’s fans so we weren’t giving-up. Fortunately, it seemed that road conditions got better after we got across the Susquehanna and we were able to get back over to I-95. We arrived in Wilmington in one piece and picked-up the rest of the gang. My sister had mercy on me and took the wheel from there. The rest of the day is a blur of bourbon and ecstasy (the emotion not the chemical). I remember watching pregame warm-ups. Michael Vick wondered over in front of our section and looked up to take in the crowd. We were down low and, being a UVA grad with a deeply rooted, solid hate for Virginia Tech, I had no choice but to holler "the hokies suck." Vick looked straight at me, pointed and nodded his head. I like to think that that day I got the best of that one. In the long run, well, we’ll see. I still can’t believe he is an eagle. Anyway, the game is history. My toes have thawed. The Birds rule. Now it is time for Kolb to take us back to the Promised Land and to do it right this time!
